Negative, Ricardo, in my opinion. It smells nice, but it’s different. To me, it sounds like a clone of Narciso Rodriguez’s Blue Parfum.
Versatile, though I noticed that after the reformulation, the intensity has been slightly reduced.
Versatile, but it has changed a bit compared to the previous edition; in the reformulation, I think they have taken away a little of the intensity.
I tried more than five scents from this designer, and this EDT is the most elegant and cool for me. Fresh opening that then becomes earthy and masculine due to the vetiver and black pepper. I find it very peculiar, ideal for suits in cold weather. I love the complex iris and would have liked more, though I bought it by chance. For me, cardamom and vetiver are the stars. It lasts over six hours with light projection; I see it as personal for close nights. I give it 8.5/10 for being unique. People have challenged me on it often. This version has spikes on the bottle, which the previous one didn’t have, and I confirm there are no chocolatey notes.
Valentino Uomo 2021 and Intense 2021 are a perfect combo: both sexy, creamy, and elegant. Uomo is subtle, refined, and noble with a fresh and spiced opening; Intense goes for the dark, robust, and mysterious, with a sweet base of vanilla, iris, and leather making it dynamic and seductive. Ideal for day and night respectively. They revolve around a powdery, woody, and very masculine iris that overflows with class.
Regarding Valentino Uomo 2021 and Intense 2021: both are sexy, creamy, and elegant fragrances. The Uomo is more subtle, refined, and noble, with a bright, fresh, and spicy opening; the Intense goes for something darker, robust, dense, and mysterious, with a sweet, vanilla, iris, and leather base that makes it dynamic and seductive. They are a perfect duo for almost everything: the daytime and nighttime scents make a statement and impose personality. They revolve around a dusty, elegant, woody, and very masculine iris, overflowing with class.
The previous fragrance was delicious, but the 2021 reformulation has no chocolate whatsoever. I’ll stick with the old one, which was gourmand. This new one is more Dior Homme style: powdery and pleasant, but that’s all. Poor projection and weak longevity.
I loved it. It smells clean, spiced, and woody. I think the cardamom leads everything, but I enjoyed it. It’s totally different from what I had before. I own the 2021 version.
I just tried it and confirmed it smells identical to the original, just less intense. After three hours on the skin, it still smells good, without those ‘stoppie’ notes on the neck. I don’t understand how people say it’s fresher or less chocolatey; here the ingredients are the same, only the new version is weaker, period.
I believe it’s one of the most refined scents in my collection. It smells like an elegant man, the type who flicks the ring finger when drinking. The iris is the strength, always present. You only notice the bergamot at the end to avoid saturation. There’s also pepper in the dry down, but the iris takes centre stage. Many dislike the ‘woman’s powder’ scent, but I see sublime charm in it. Regular performance; five sprays last 4-5 hours. Projection drops after two hours.
Stuffy yet modern: the opening is a powerful and vibrant citrus blast, although it lacks longevity. Then emerges a curious and fascinating blend of vetiver and cardamom, which add elegance without falling into vintage territory, very much in the style of Dior Homme Intense. The iris is present but doesn’t smell like makeup or powdery; it appears refined and clean, balanced with the vetiver for a sophisticated air. It’s not a fragrance for parties or young people, but for those seeking class. It’s one of the best ways to see how iris and vetiver can coexist without losing freshness. In the end, the powdery notes fade, leaving a rich and creamy cardamom that rounds everything off gently. My rating: 8/10. Valentino Uomo 2021 is an underrated gem, ideal for a mature audience that wants to stand out with elegance and a modern profile.
Talcumy yet modern. Potent citrus opening, so vibrant it hurts. Then vetiver and cardamom, a curious and elegant combination, à la Dior Homme Intense. The iris doesn’t smell like makeup; it’s refined and clean, balanced with vetiver for a sophisticated air. It’s not for parties or a young crowd; it’s for those seeking elegance. The powdery notes fade, leaving rich, creamy cardamom. My rating: 8/10. Valentino Uomo 2021 is underrated, ideal for mature people who want to stand out with elegance.
Perhaps I’m wrong, but it smells a bit like Mugler’s A*Men, just less dense. I bought a 2025 batch and do notice a ‘chocolatey’ note. I don’t know much about its performance; I bought it blind and won’t say it’s not one of the best, but I’ll give it a chance. I see it for temperate and cold climates. We’ll see when I use it more.
July 2024 batch, BOTTLE WITH SPIKES. A strange aroma, overshadowed by the Born in Roma line. Sometimes modern, other times old money, without commercial nuances. Opening: elegant bergamot and lemon, fresh but not for heat, fading quickly. Dry down: the controversial iris that I love, with cardamom. A modern talcum sensation but with vintage touches. The contrast gives it character. Annoying to wear during the day, ideal for winter or serious offices. Not a blind buy if you dislike iris. Reminds me of Le Male Le Parfum.
July 2024 batch: BOTTLE WITH THORNS. Undoubtedly, an unusual scent, heavily overshadowed by the Born in Roma line. In general, it’s rare; there are modern moments and others that feel ‘old money’, without commercial nuances, seeking its own path to exclusivity in silence. OPENING: fresh but not for heat, nothing more, elegant and particular bergamot and lemon that fade in intensity until the dry down. DRY DOWN: that controversial iris note appears, which I love and is very noticeable throughout the life of the perfume. It combines with cardamom, another note I adore, creating a stuffy yet modern feel thanks to the cardamom, but recalling an ‘old money’ style thanks to that slight start of elegant bergamot/lemon; that contrast gives it character. USE: I find it annoying for daytime wear; it does its job well in cold climates, from the office in winter to semi-formal occasions requiring seriousness or class. It’s not a blind buy unless you like iris; there it looks more like you’ll love it. Crazy as I am, it reminds me of Le Male Le Parfum: stuffy, iris, and a slight creamy sweet touch.
I’ve never smelled anything so flat and sterile. Valentino Uomo EDT is for those without personality who don’t know anything about perfumes. It doesn’t smell bad, but it’s indistinguishable from a disinfectant or Ambipur. The iris is the most synthetic I’ve tried, even more so than Zara’s. It’s boring, undecided between modern and classic. It seems made for young people who want to smell ‘good’ but wear the same scents as Inditex. It seeks mass appeal but hasn’t achieved it.
I haven’t smelled a flatter and more aseptic cologne in a long time. Valentino Uomo EDT is, within its flanker line, a perfume for someone who has no personality, doesn’t want to stand out, and, on top of that, doesn’t understand perfumes. Does it smell bad? No, the problem is that you don’t know if you’re smelling a cologne or disinfectant. It has the most synthetic iris (I think it is iris, but it could perfectly be disinfectant) I have ever smelled, even though I own Synth Aura by Zara. It’s a boring iris that doesn’t know what it wants to be, wavering between modern and classic. I think it’s aimed at young people who don’t know what to wear to smell good, and it doesn’t matter to them whether they use this or something from Inditex or Nike. It also seems to aim for mass appeal, and it hasn’t even managed that.
