  • Rich scent but with very poor longevity and sillage. After 3 hours I couldn’t smell it anymore. A pity, they ruined it.

  • To be honest, I bought it blind and yes, women like it a lot, but for me, to be honest, I wouldn’t buy it again.

One of my favourite scents and, luckily, it performs incredibly well: longevity +10h with 8 sprays and projection 3-4h easily. Super masculine, seductive and nocturnal. As has been said, with a leather jacket this goes crazy. Undoubtedly, a fragrance that will always be in my collection. Perhaps the only downside, which isn’t really one because it’s designed to be so, is that I see it exclusively as a night scent for autumn/winter. But nah, it’s brilliant. 9.25/10. Edited October 2022: I am re-writing some reviews because this 2022 I have dedicated time and resources to testing perfumes to confirm my tastes before continuing to throw money away. With this Man Privé, it happened that it went from exciting me a year ago to finding nothing special in it. I cannot deny that it is quite unique, with the leather and whisky note, and quite wearable, it’s not heavy at all, it could be a good signature perfume for a young man. But as of today, it simply doesn’t excite me, as happens with many designer scents. So I will lower the rating to an 8/10. Although I repeat, it is a great option if you have few perfumes and want one that is somewhat different, sexy and more or less versatile at a reasonable price.

The whisky note dominates only for the first hour (which they call burnt rubber). After that, cardamomo takes centre stage, dry and rich. By three hours, it’s tonka and benzoin. From the very beginning, there’s a leather base.

I’ve changed my mind about this perfume several times. Let’s start with the basics: CH Men Privé is a leather-based fragrance, an aromatic leather reminiscent of 80s/90s leather/chypre-moderate fougère scents (classic Salvador Dali For Him and Hermès Bel Ami). Being commercial, the leather accord is quite sharp due to smoky and polyphenolic notes (juniper tar or cade?) and a petrol-like or violet tone, likely from a saffron component, which personally reminds me of the solvent part of leather grease, built on a resin base. It has strong whisky, warm spicy tones, very sweet vanilla, aromatic notes, and a citrus dry down. Why do I love it? Noble leather, masterfully achieved. Raw masculinity. Why did it used to bother me? The sweet notes are extremely present; I believe leather should only be adorned with a hint of amber or a faint black vanilla underneath, or kept dry. Does a leather jacket smell like tonka bean? (Joke). On my skin, it sometimes smells like Coca-Cola, without any liquor or leather… Finally, did I understand it? I think I have, to a greater extent, recently. It’s one of the best, perhaps the best male perfume for romantic dates on the market: balanced macho leather with sweet notes. From my point of view, there is nothing better. Reviewers do not recommend buying it blind for the leather, which is considered difficult (As a user of Polo Green and Givenchy Gentleman 1974, this CH Men Privé seems like a walk in the park compared to those Russian leather horrors of the 70s…). But frankly, it seems to have something unisex about it due to the tonka and benzoin sweet notes. Final verdict: I plan to buy it anyway; it’s the best leather perfume I’ve smelled (without explicitly smelling like leather as Tom Ford or Gucci Guilty Absolute do). It’s tremendously sexy. For being petrol-like and smoky, it’s quite wearable. I could even spray it on my clothes or something, although it still smells like Coca-Cola on my skin, but as soon as I have enough savings to buy it, I plan to do so, unless I find one less sweet with equally rich and aromatic leather. It remains formidable. Cheers.

  • Sweet, spiced, and woody leather. An elegant, masculine fragrance for men over 30+. It’s the ‘dad’ of CH Men, serving as a transition to something more formal and mature. If the weather is crisp or it’s evening, the notes really pop, and its trail and longevity stand out. It’s not for jeans and flannel; it suits smart attire, a dinner, or a tasteful boss, like lighting a pipe or pouring a neat whisky in a short glass to honour one of its olfactory notes. An excellent scent that breaks away from the endless basic flankers from the house.

  • Simple: if you love wearing a leather jacket, this is the one. It smells fantastic and gives off the vibe of someone interesting who knows their style. It’s perfect for a date, but I reckon you absolutely need the jacket; without it, you’ll literally look like you’ve messed up. It’s for someone confident, feeling like the ultimate seducer and wanting to make an impression. Its focus is leather, and if the jacket is brown or coffee-coloured, it’s ideal.

  • Exquisite, creamy, warm, and woody. The whisky notes add warmth without being a purely alcoholic fragrance; combined with the leather and benzoin, they create an extraordinary body with a subtle woody base. It’s soft, enveloping you in a personal bubble, yet it doesn’t go unnoticed if there’s direct skin contact. The blend of wild flowers and the sweetness of tonka lends an interesting elegance; although the florals don’t stand out, there’s a delicate complexity that adorns the main theme. In Argentina, we have the Giesso 01, similar in whisky but more intense and rustic. Ideal for winter, cool evenings, romantic outings, or when wearing a leather jacket; it works equally well with formal or informal outfits. Personally, very pleasant.

  • Pabloufum

Opening and development dominated by whisky (hence the decanter-style bottle). Over time, spices emerge, evolving into something sweet and amber. I don’t detect much leather; it’s more wood and benzoin, especially as it dries down. Perfect for cooler climates thanks to that liquorish, sweet touch. Performance is excellent (Batch 2017). I’m wearing it now in the middle of winter in Argentina and it works perfectly in the office. For me, it suits people aged 28 and up; it doesn’t feel particularly ‘young’. A curious point nobody mentions: as it dries, I notice bursts reminiscent of ‘makeup’, similar to Dior Homme. They say it’s the iris note, but there’s no iris in this CH… perhaps it’s my nose or the years have given it an aged character. Has anyone else noticed this? It would be interesting to know. Best regards.

In the world of men’s perfumes, this smells quite generic and doesn’t offer anything new or dazzling. I’ve already noticed it in a Bottled by Boss, an Armani Code, a Blue Jeans, and a Polo Black. Nothing new, peeeerooo nothing bad, nor what follows. It’s elegant, rich, delicious, and very pleasant, so pleasant that I’ve liked it immensely and want it. The first thing I noticed was smoky cardamomo, smoky tonka bean, and leather that isn’t rough but very present, with timely and balanced lavender, a resinous amber, and an ointment-like benzoin. The whisky gives a rich and wonderful air. I didn’t notice the citrus at all. It’s well worth it and deserves a place in any dressing table or bathroom cabinet. The bottle is beautiful with its glass and lacquer, very vintage. Longevity and dry-down are decent, but it is a very recommended and good perfume.

A fragrance I adore deeply and it pains me that it’s discontinued. Here in my country it’s still available but costs $80 and isn’t worth the price. I use it for dates and girls love it, they give compliments. The best thing is that it’s a perfume you’ll enjoy for the leather and liquor that give a sense of sensuality and seduction. An exquisite aroma. As for projection and longevity (about 3 to 4 hours) it leaves much to be desired, as I said it’s for dates, so if it’s for that you won’t have problems. But if you want to use it for going to class or open spaces, you’ll be disappointed because it doesn’t project or last long. Recommended only for that special occasion.

  • Excellent fragrance, but the longevity is terrible. I put it on at 2 pm and by 5 pm it had completely evaporated.

  • I’m updating my review of this CH. After wearing it for some time, my perception of the notes has changed a bit, especially regarding their prominence. What I notice most is leather: sweet, boozy with a woody base. It’s a very masculine and intimate aroma. If you are at a distance, what is most felt is the liquor (whisky) with a sweet and amber touch. But when you get close to the skin, that’s where you perceive that beautiful leather, sweet, warm, and sexy. Longevity is very good: about 10 hours on skin and a bit more on clothes (batch 2017). It suits night and temperate or fresh climates; with heat it becomes dense. The flask-shaped bottle fits perfectly with the private whisky idea. Regards!

  • Ricardo-powa

Autumn and winter night perfume. Not suitable for summer or spring because it smells like liquor. It’s leather with alcohol, masculine and elegant. Lasts quite a while. (To give you an idea, it’s a Pure XS without the vanilla)

  • Theangel2002

Smells like classy people, as if you were carrying an expensive whisky nearby, but aromatically delicious. The leather gives it the touch for night and dates, although I used it during the day in autumn and winter and it works brilliantly. It doesn’t invade, but it’s very well-liked; it’s versatile and elegant. I used it in the office and if you apply it to clothes, it lasts a couple of days, even more so if it’s on a wool jacket or sweater. Recommended 1000%. Pity it’s discontinued, but there are units in some retail stores or official websites. I bought the 150 ml to enjoy it for a couple of years. Regards.

Thank you, CH Men Privé, for teaching my generation leather in a masterful way. Whoever created it deserves credit for supporting an entire generation of leather lovers. Although I never owned it and half my collection consists of similar fragrances, I let you go and hope to meet you again in the future, no matter how much a first formula bottle costs. You are a cult classic, distinct from sweet synthetic blues. You are smoked black leather, greased with whisky that tickles the nose and heavy cardamomo. If you see it, use it for a few months before it ages and develops a mother tincture; it became sweeter and they reduced the roughness in the reformulation. Similar and cheap alternatives: Bentley For Men (EDT/EDP), Natura Essencial Elixir, Cyzone Score, Yves Rocher Ambre Noir, Jafra Absolute Leather, and Avon Segno. If someone gifts it to me, go ahead.

  • The moment I smelled it, I knew it was the scent I wanted for myself. It’s a sweet and boozy leather, the most exquisite I’ve tried. Very masculine, with incredible personality, perfect for wearing with a leather jacket or jeans, secure and seductive. It pains me that they discontinued it because it’s a gem, the best leather scent I know, and very different from modern successful fragrances. It has great character. Performance is very good in my case: it lasts 8 hours and projects well for the first 3, then you feel it with every movement without fading quickly to the skin. I recommend it widely, it’s well worth owning. If you see it in any shop, don’t hesitate.

  • Many say it smells like Natura Essencial Elixir and yes, they are similar, but they are NOT THE SAME. CH Men Privé is like the interior of a legitimate leather car, whereas Essencial is synthetic leather. CH Men Privé is more sophisticated, luminous, and complete. Both are extraordinary (95% similarity), but this CH version has superior levels. It’s rare that it’s worth owning both, given this one is superior in quality and performance. I re-batched the 2022 version and nothing has changed. It smells masculine, elegant, and sensual, simply exquisite. Others complain about weak projection, but I applied 6 sprays on skin and 6 on clothes and it lasted 8 hours, projecting well for the first 2. Note: I don’t know if they have stopped production. Scent: 9.0. Projection: moderate. Longevity: 6-8h. Recommended.

Starts with citrus that quickly yields to lavender, sage, thyme, and cardamomo, creating a mysterious aura. Then whisky takes over, wrapping everything in a spiced scent. The leather explodes strongly: rough, masculine, and boozy, mixed with wood and tonka bean sweetness. It’s sexy, bold, and manly. I smelled it and it was instantly my favourite. The downside is it lasts only 5 or 6 hours; it projects strongly for 2 hours before the trail becomes moderate. Ideal for night and cold weather, with formal or semi-formal attire.

  • Anecdote: it’s the one Justin Bieber actually wears, not the one he sponsors, but the one he uses personally. I have a special love for the cardamom note, and this is one of my favourites with it; what a shame it’s so weak. If they released an ‘intense’ version, I’d consider buying it.

  • What a pity they discontinued this tremendous work of art. Although it doesn’t last long, it’s an aroma that captivates from the opening. Very masculine with that whiskey and spectacular leather tone, a perfume that cannot be missing from any collection. I fell in love with it from the first test and had to buy it at any cost, even though a girl accompanying me didn’t like it. Perhaps it’s one of those perfumes men prefer more, but for me, it’s spectacular without a doubt.

  • Speaking of perfumes, someone said Bentley Intense is the better option, but opinions are relative. In my experience, Bentley Intense is a very rough, alpha leather, not particularly seductive. Conversely, CH Privé delighted me from the first sniff. Sweet, tipsy, and burnt aroma initially, with a spicy touch afterwards. Everything is balanced and achieved, sophisticated and perfect for seduction. Even though it’s discontinued, it remains one of the best seductors in the designer segment. I got lucky with a 2015 batch; it’s wonderful. It projects enough, isn’t beast mode, but seductive and sophisticated, lasting about eight hours. If you can find the 2015-2016 version, it’s worth it. Perfect for a date; I guarantee you’ll score points. It’s vindicating the Carolina Herrera brand: ‘this is what a well-dressed, successful man who does well with women smells like.’ If I had to choose a poster, it would be Gerard Butler in a suit, well-groomed beard, and in shape.

  • JavierSantana

It resembles Bentley For Men Intense to a certain extent, but there are discrepancies. CH Privé features prominent orange-citrus top notes, whereas Bentley offers a lighter bergamot and laurel brightness. CH has a simpler, more astringent liquor; Bentley is more complex with fruity nuances (peach, plum). CH presents leather with smoky undertones (cade tar or birch, I’m not sure which exactly, but the effect is identical), a resinous base, and a shoe-grease hint (violet, saffron), evoking brand-new black leather. In Bentley, the leather is more animalic, dark, with a stable aura, like vegetable-tanned leather (cowhide or harness leather), with an undeclared oud note. CH is spicier, aromatic, and brighter due to cardamom and herbs/lavender. Bentley leans warm with cinnamon tones. CH is sweeter, highlighted by tonka. Bentley lacks this and has a subtle, undeclared vanilla sweetness. CH, being resinous with benzoin, isn’t as ambered and lacks Bentley’s refined patchouli earthy base. In conclusion: CH Privé is brighter, aggressive, youthful, with noisy leather, a carefree vibe, a drunk rocker aura, and grime. However, it’s easier to wear than Bentley and I’d dare say more seductive. Bentley is more mature and refined. Hope this helps, blessings.

  • Franchiranna

Great scent! Truly masculine, combining alcohol, leather, and woods perfectly. Very autumnal, even wintry in my opinion. But in my experience, the performance is very weak: it doesn’t sit well on my skin and the projection is totally weak. I had a 2017 batch, before the last reformulation, and yet I still don’t have a good reference for its performance. Scent: 8/10, Longevity: 6/10, Projection: 6/10. I’ve read many positive reviews and it’s a pity that this great scent hasn’t met my expectations.

  • Mr. Baskerville

A modern option. I don’t associate it as much with Bentley For Men Intense; it feels more youthful. I like the apricot opening and the relationship with the citrus notes. However, I’m not entirely convinced by the aromatic ensemble accompanying the leather in the development (it gets in the way). It’s not that it’s bad; perhaps that sweetness (associated with benzoin) is what I don’t like, but I recognise it’s a great option for the night. I find it bold, with an interesting seductive edge for those looking for it. Longevity and projection are decent. I’ve tested it at friends’ houses and see it’s not easy to buy today (at least in Spain), which surprises me as it has everything to appeal to young people, although perhaps that’s just my impression. What a pity for those who wanted it.

  • darkbull88

CH MEN PRIVÈ: I found it again here in Colombia after owning it for years. Simply a masterpiece. It makes you shine and asserts your personality. Notes of apricot, wood, and leather over a citrus base. Everything in a perfect waltz: opens with juicy grapefruit over whisky, adding density and rebellion. Then comes glossy black leather that frames that whisky, bathed in woody aromas that lend elegance and mystery. It has a rock soul, rebellion, and luxury, pure bad boy style. Perfect for the night. Longevity is very good. Highly recommended, a must-have.

  • What a perfume, exquisite aroma, a masterpiece of perfumery. What a pity that none of the CH Men line is this incredible, and worse still that it’s discontinued. Ideal for evening wear in mild temperatures. Perfect for a date. The only flaw is that if it lasted longer, it would be the only one I’d own.

  • With this perfume, what happens to me is that I don’t identify the notes, when smelling it it’s all one… and when that happens to me I like it because it becomes a personal scent that I don’t associate with others. Sweet and tasty, for any age. The downside it has is the performance; as well as the previous review says, it’s abysmal… Carolina Herrera, professional perfume water carrier, haha.

  • PERFUMON!!! A compliment beast. I was already devastated by the reformulation, and now it doesn’t even last two hours on the skin. People are getting 50 Bad Boys compliments when the original already had everything covered. Anyway.

  • At some point it was in my collection and unfortunately I let it go; today I regret it and I find myself searching for it again, hoping to have the luck of finding it at a reasonable price.

  • Very, very rich, it has a sweet touch but not similar to other perfumes. The comments I mostly get about this perfume are that it smells like a man. It can get cloying at first as it feels like a strong smell, but then the sweet scent remains that I mentioned. The versatility also seems quite good to me; I’ve used it in temperate climates and heat (not in the street) and it works well. 9/10.

  • It was a true gem of perfumery; it didn’t have as much longevity as I imagined, but its aroma was from another world. Personally, I would buy it again if they launch a new batch.

  • Luis Alberto 1990

A true perfume for a true man, a gem that will go down in history. I still have about 90 ml left and I’ll enjoy them to the fullest. First God.

  • It’s a scent that goes perfectly with a leather jacket. It’s a fragrance I like to use when I’m not looking to please others with loud, flashy, sticky, or easy-to-please aromas. I’m not saying women don’t like it, I mean it can come across as very seductive but without shouting, keeping that dark and rough side with those whisky and leather notes, which, by the way, is super youthful, not that leather that smells like freshly polished shoes, for heaven’s sake, it’s a really pleasant leather. This perfume should definitely have been called Bad Boy. The fact that it’s discontinued has the only advantage that, if you can get it, you can stand out with something you’ll very rarely find on someone these days. Exclusive use in cold climates; in heat it becomes very uncomfortable and heavy.

  • Wow… I’ve had it since 2021 without knowing I was buying a discontinued gem. I’m a huge fan of Carolina Herrera and their perfumes; I consider myself loyal to the brand, I like the CH normal one very much, and this seems like a very well-judged flanker. It wasn’t unnecessary, I think it gave that much more mysterious touch to the CH, which can be a bit more open to personalities. But the CH Privé isn’t an amusement park, it’s a night motorway. What a delight that warm spiced cardamomo together with the leather, uff. When the whisky alcohol note kicks in, you know you’ll have a masculine essence. Definitely a blind buy. Guarantee of compliments, yes, at night.

  • Capitánbarco

A perfume that was once looked down upon (or was cheap or hard to redeem) and now people ask for ridiculous prices. For me, it was the richest of all the ones I’ve tried, and there aren’t many. I have a launch batch, and my conclusion is that the legend isn’t true: it doesn’t last as long as they say and projects little. Let’s see if this changes with time. Another thing, I can’t smell the whisky note, not even with my imagination (try Kutay, that one definitely smells like whisky), let alone a drunk smell; I think that’s what reviewers repeat. I bought it because I felt it was similar to Dhi, haha, but this has its own identity although it has a certain resemblance to Nuit de l’Homme. Aroma 10. P/D: it was one of Jeremy’s favourites in his cool days, snif snif.

  • Is it really this good? In my city, there’s a department store with three sets of this perfume thrown away for 1500 pesos (around 70 dollars).

  • Very rich and sexy, but it lasts nothing and projects nothing; after an hour, if you’re not right up against someone’s skin, they won’t notice it. What a pity, because although it’s rich, there are much more rewarding alternatives for going out at night, such as Most Wanted or Spicebomb, which actually have projection.
