Bois d'Argent by Dior is a woody-chypre fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2004, this composition was created by Annick Menardo. The top notes unfold iris, cypress, and juniper berries; the heart reveals myrrh and patchouli; while the base settles on woody notes, honey, vanilla, amber, resins, musk, and leather.

Bois d’Argent is, without a doubt, a well-constructed and elegant fragrance. You can tell there’s quality in the composition; it’s delicate, refined, and has that classic air of sobriety. However, in my case, it failed to generate any special emotion. It opens sweet, with a serious and somewhat traditional profile. It’s not strident or modern; it has a restrained character, even with a nuance that recalls classics. It’s pleasant, smells good, but it didn’t produce that immediate ‘click’ when a fragrance connects with your DNA. The longevity was good and the evolution correct, yet it didn’t radically change my initial perception. It’s a fragrance I respect more than I love. I’ll probably use it again to give it a second chance before drawing a definitive conclusion. For now, I value it as an elegant and well-made scent, though not particularly exciting for my personal taste.

I’d describe it as powdery and astringent (not in a bad way). It doesn’t smell particularly clean. Of everything I’ve tried, what stands out is an intrusive iris, myrrh, and woods, with a touch of earthy patchouli and amber. I like it, but I wouldn’t buy it myself. I’ve been using it from a 5ml decant.

I would define it as talc-like and astringent (not in a bad way). It doesn’t feel quite as clean as I’d expect. From my olfactory repertoire, I detect an intrusive iris, myrrh, and woods. There’s a touch of earthy patchouli and amber. I like it, but I wouldn’t buy it. I’ve been testing it from a 5ml decant.

Magnificent, subtle fragrance. The iris notes are its most distinctive feature, reminding me slightly, though less intensely, of Prada’s Infusion d’Iris.

Everything in perfect balance: sweet yet not cloying, long-lasting yet not overpowering, soft yet that softness endures for hours. A true delicacy for those who love powdery scents of iris, musk, myrrh and leather. I don’t detect the honey mentioned in the olfactory pyramid, and honestly, that’s preferable as I usually dislike that note. It was a treat gifted to me on Three Kings’ Day that I haven’t repurchased due to the price, though I enjoyed it immensely because this perfume is simply wonderful.

Bois d’Argent has completely hooked me. I understand those who say it smells like baby powder, but taken to the ultimate extreme. It features a unique iris, very Dior, intense yet tamed, blended with resins and a perfect touch of honey that drives me wild. I adore the woody dry-down, a dusty wood with subtle green notes, steeped in a soft honey… It would be the younger sister of Ambre Nuit from the same collection, but in my opinion, this Bois d’Argent is cleaner and more addictive. Super versatile, pleasant, delightful, rich and expensive. My drug of choice.

uhm
Very good scent. I didn’t expect it to be like this. It has green and resinous notes that might remind you of Fille en Aiguilles, hehe, but with those notes much toned down. Above all, there’s honey, myrrh, and a touch of floral iris, though it doesn’t seem to be a typical iris. A very original and pleasant perfume, balanced and with good longevity… although the projection seems a bit weak.

It’s too impersonal and lacks a clear identity. Therefore, it’s very wearable. But I prefer perfumes with more presence, those that make you love or hate them. This scent is a soft one that won’t disgust anyone.

After an hour, it smells like baby wet wipes, in the line of Kenzo’s Poppy, with a faint woody touch. So, it’s not worth it.

Could it be similar to Equivalenza’s Les Secrets Iris?

Bois D’Argent is a talcum-like and sweet aroma, very feminine at times for my taste, with a predominant iris note over a sweet and balsamic background of myrrh, vanilla, and honey. At first, the iris is felt over a sweet myrrh base, but timidly, as if eclipsed by the balsamic greenery of cypress and berries, green, fresh, and sweet. After a while, the myrrh and iris become more noticeable, but now, in the background, the honey starts to emerge, making it too sweet for my taste. Gradually, the scent becomes even sweeter, acquiring amber and vanilla tones, leaving a talcum-like iris fragrance, pampered by excessive sweetness, where the vanilla, myrrh, honey, and amber are noticeable. From here on, the scent shows little development, with a slightly woody dry-down, but very faint and subtle, and certainly nothing noteworthy. The performance is very good, lasting over nine hours with a moderate trail from the start, perfect for cold or mild climates and only for evening wear; I think the heat and its excessive sweetness could be overwhelming. I like the perfume a bit, not much, but a bit, though it could also leave me indifferent. What doesn’t leave me indifferent is its price, a rip-off that isn’t justified; the perfume might have quality, a nice bottle, and everything else you want, but the scent itself isn’t worth the cost. I certainly won’t buy it again; I recommend trying it before buying blindly. To give you a rough idea of the scent, if you take a bottle of Zara’s ‘Rich Warm Addictive’ and add iris and a touch of myrrh, voilà! You have Bois D’Argent, it’s basically the same as Zara’s but with the iris and myrrh touch.

Bois D’Argent smells of talc and sweetness, very feminine in my opinion. The iris dominates over a balsamic backdrop of myrrh, vanilla, and honey. At first, the iris is shy, eclipsed by the fresh green of cypress and berries. Then the myrrh and iris gain strength, but the honey makes it too sweet. Gradually it sweetens further, with amber and vanilla tones, leaving a talcum-dusted iris bathed in sweetness where vanilla, myrrh, honey, and amber are noticeable. Afterwards, it barely evolves; in the dry-down there is a hint of wood, very faint and unremarkable. The longevity is excellent, around nine hours, with moderate sillage from the start. Ideal for cold or mild weather and only for evening wear; the heat and its excessive sweetness could be overwhelming. I like it a little, though it might leave me indifferent. What does not leave me indifferent is the price: an unjustified robbery of my wallet. It may have quality and a pretty bottle, but the perfume is not worth the cost. I will not be buying it again. I recommend trying it before buying blindly. If you take a bottle of Zara’s ‘Rich Warm Addictive’ and add iris and a touch of myrrh, voilà! That is Bois D’Argent, it smells just like Zara but with those extra touches.

The refined woody iris is what the top notes bring: light, less intense than in Dior Homme, and more delicate. Over time, a soft patchouli base emerges, along with a faint impression of myrrh that fades very slowly but lingers, semi-sweet. You can also detect the amber, cypress, patchouli, honey, and vanilla.
The moment I applied it, I understood the ‘Silver’ in the name: it feels cold and metallic at first. Then the wood notes emerge, like a sweet, pleasant sawdust. Finally, it settles into a powdery iris with a potent beeswax presence, giving me the impression of myrrh, resins, and honey, even though they aren’t listed. In short, it’s warm, spicy, resinous, and sweet. It has a strong trail and lasts nine hours on my skin. It’s one of the best in the line for its originality and deserves a try, but if you don’t like honey, better avoid it. Scent 7/10, longevity 9/10, trail 7.5/10, value for money 6/10, versatility 6.5/10, packaging 7/10. Would I buy it again? I haven’t purchased it yet.
I’ve never tried the 2004 version, but this smells of dust and wood with a medium sweetness and a very subtle iris; it seemed very weak and short-lived, although I’ve blended it with others several times. I’ll try it alone on my skin again and update this.
