With three versions of Angel: this 2015 Gravity, Thierry Mugler’s Star Edition from 2013, and the current one, I must say that between this and the new reformulation, there is very little difference. The opening of Gravity is more patchouli-like, and I notice the red fences a little more, but once dried down, the difference is barely noticeable. There is only a very faint distinction in the dry-down of this edition. That tiny bit is what makes the difference and makes me prefer it over the reformulated Angel itself. I think if you already have one, it doesn’t pay to own both for the scent alone. What I am clear on is that it does not consist of just those four notes.

I own all three versions of Angel: the 2015 Gravity, Mugler’s Star Edition from 2013, and the current one. Comparing this to the latest reformulation, the difference is minimal. The opening of Gravity smells more of patchouli, and the red fences are slightly more noticeable, but once dried down, there’s hardly any distinction. Only in the dry-down does this edition show a faint difference, which is what makes me prefer it over the reformulated Angel. If you already own one, I don’t think it’s worth buying both just for the scent. The truth is, it doesn’t consist of just those four notes.

I believe the notes described here are incorrect, as I own this fragrance and it is very similar to the original; the difference is almost imperceptible. This version also boasts excellent longevity and a powerful sillage.

  4. I haven’t had the luck of trying the original Angel from 1992, but I have worn the new reformulation and now this Gravity Star by Thierry Mugler. I can say that for me, there is no difference between these two versions. I love it just as much as the reformulated Angel, sensing the same ripe, almost overripe fruits with plenty of honey. I believe it is the same fragrance, and the notes listed here are wrong.

  5. I haven’t had the fortune of trying the original Angel version from 1992, but I have worn the new reformulation and now this Gravity Star by Thierry Mugler. I can say that for me, I see no difference between these two versions. I love it just as much as the reformulated Angel, sensing the same ripe, almost damaged fruits with plenty of honey. I believe it is the same fragrance, and the notes listed here are incorrect.

The new jewel of my dressing table. To start with the packaging: the box is large and unusual, featuring star aesthetics and embossments. Upon opening, the bottle is outstanding: thick glass with its artisanal imperfections, metallic details on the cap and sprayer, truly remarkable. The scent has a light hint of Angel when opening the box, that familiarity you recognise. Once applied, it is a little softer than the traditional version, but the longevity is above average: a decent six hours on skin and days on clothes. Its sillage is softer, lacking that intrusive potency we know. If you have the opportunity, buy it; that star could last you years. You could refill it until you tire of it, or if you thought Angel was good but too invasive, this slightly milder version might please you more.

Much softer and more wearable than the classic Angel from 1992.
