Angel Eau Sucree by Mugler

Angel Eau Sucrée is a special fragrance, not because it’s revolutionary like the original from 1992, but because it represents a cheerful, crisp and friendly perspective of that grandiose scent. It’s one of those that lifts my mood just by smelling it. The opening is pure meringue dominance; although it’s a heart note, I sense it throughout the development. The red berries are a minimal backdrop to take away a bit of tension and make it less overwhelming (in fact, it reminds me of a Chilean cereal called ‘Zucaritas’). Then, the meringue swallows the vanilla to regain vitality, leaving a scent of freshly baked cake batter: crisp and sugary. Finally, everything concludes with the same patchouli as the original, but here the formula is inverted: the meringue settles over a microscopic amount of patchouli. It’s enchanting, crisp, sparkling, with a cosmic joy that reminds me of the spirit of Britney Spears’ Midnight Fantasy (ironically, both can cause cavities in those sensitive to sweetness, and Eau Sucrée could be reincarnated as a lost sugar star in the Orion belt). It can also be seen as a less transgressive, softer version of Angel, although its distance from the original is undeniable, so don’t be guided solely by your love for the classic when buying it (which, by the way, has a reasonable price). The sillage is interesting: the original Angel would have hit people in the face, but this one is shyer and more reserved, less overwhelming, although the longevity is accommodating, albeit slightly reduced compared to the original. It’s precious, it will cause a stir in the cold, although it could induce a diabetic coma in the heat (do not recommend over-applying).

After searching high and low, I finally found this version of Angel. To be honest, I’m not sure yet if I’ll fall in love with it. It smells lovely when dry, but the opening leaves me a bit unsure; that patchouli doesn’t quite sit right for me. I tested it in the middle of summer with temperatures over 30 degrees, so I’ll keep the bottle to try it in winter – I think it will shine more in the cold. For now, it has the DNA of the classic (maybe that’s what doesn’t suit me, haha), but with a much sweeter and more pleasant finish. And you might ask: why look for a flanker if you don’t like the original? Well, because I love ALL of Mugler’s flankers, life is full of surprises. I’ll expand on this review in winter.

The younger sister of Angel, a less coarse, simpler and friendlier version. It definitely has the Angel DNA, with a patchouli that feels a bit mentholated at first, but here it’s not so strong. It’s sugary and acidic due to an overdose of blackberries (I detect plenty of blackcurrants and raspberry), which reminds me a bit of Innocent in the middle phase, and the base is creamier and more vanilla-like. It’s not as potent as the other Angel versions I’ve tried, but it does last quite a while on the skin; after a few hours, the trail of the original arrives :D. It’s great… it’s super sweet, fluffy, coquettish and youthful, yet still not cloying. I like it so much!!

This fragrance is very sweet, yet balanced at the same time. The acidic berries do half the work of taming the meringue bomb, without being able to subdue it when it explodes. By the fifth hour of wearing it, I clearly sense a soft vanilla and the shy patchouli, which honestly is my favourite stage. Longevity? Around 11 hours until it fades on the skin. Sillage? Perceptible but respectful of personal space. Angel Eau Sucrée, you’ll be with me.

I bought it blind… I hadn’t even tried the traditional Angel or Muse before, and they seemed far too intense to me 😖. I saw many reviews and decided to look for this one because it’s discontinued, and honestly, I have no regrets 😍. It has the Mugler DNA, but it’s much more bearable and less invasive. I love it!

Another Angel that has won my heart… Sweet, very fruity and delicious. I bought it blind and it was love at first sniff. Another Mugler perfume that’s staying on my vanity.

Beautiful perfume, very lovely and very ‘girly’. Mugler lasts forever, so I’ll be smelling like meringue all afternoon, which I absolutely adore.
