Chance Eau Vive by Chanel

Reminds me greatly of Gabrielle, yet it is more innocent and youthful, with that elegant, clean touch. Chance Eau Vive is more energising; Gabrielle lasts longer and feels more conservative, and I adore both.

A work of art made into perfume, exquisite, delicious, sublime, leaving me speechless. As it dries, I evoke ethereal beings like angels.

Opens very citrusy and soapy, then settles into a fresh, floral scent with woody notes. I recognise the quality, but it’s nothing special. A fair balance between acidity and sweetness.

Chance Eau Vive is citrusy, herbal and talc-like. Fresh and citrusy opening, with little sweetness. Over time, it gains a talc-like, green and woody sensation, yet remains fresh and citrusy. Less floral and fruity than Eau Tendre, it is daytime, casual and elegant: office, friends, shopping. Lasts 7 or 8 hours; the trail is notable for the first hour, then fades but leaves a mark. Chanel is not cheap, but it smells good for everyone. I would almost recommend it blindly, but better to try first.

The opening is exquisite: citrus, fruity and floral, like walking through an orange and lemon orchard. Within minutes the citrus fades and the flowers emerge; it remains delicious, and by the end, wood, musk and florals are noticeable. The downside is that it lasts very little on my skin, which is lamentable. I have to reapply up to four times a day; it’s a torture. Ultimately, it feels like a young, elegant and wealthy woman. I insist: the longevity and projection are poor; you must be very close to detect anything.

Eau Vive is probably the most overlooked perfume in the Chance range, and I don’t know why… It seemed like a super-energetic, wearable creamy citrus with frankly good longevity for an EDT. It’s lightly powdery citrus with a pleasant iris, and a very notable vetiver base. Perfect for a hot afternoon or evening; it embraces you with that elegant cream halo. I detect no florals, only citrus and woods. Simple, unpretentious, pleasant, slightly elegant, perfectly informal. I’ve loved it immensely. More than Eau Tendre but less than Eau Fraîche. I’ll be enjoying it this summer. A citrus worth getting to know.

Chance Eau Vive is elegant, tender and soft. It starts with freshly squeezed orange and dries down to that indefinable scent I absolutely love. Although no one around me notices it, I can still smell it the next day. Who cares if I can’t smell it if I enjoy wearing it? I love it.

I’d wanted to try it for so long and when it arrived it was like a terrorist attack on my pH in self-defence. On paper it’s fresh, summery and gets along well with Eau Tendre, I thought I’d like it too… oh, horror. On my skin it transformed catastrophically; the saleswoman and I were scared by such a disgusting smell that she had to find alcohol and cotton to remove it, and the worst is that it wouldn’t go away. I bet if I’d liked it it wouldn’t have lasted so long. What a traitorous pH!

It took me a while to distinguish it from the original Chance EDT as both are orangey citrus. But since I work in perfumery, I gave it time. I sprayed it cautiously, fearing my pH which is merciless with citrus (it already happened with Coco Mademoiselle). It opens with a sweet, natural red orange, with soft green leaves, like grapefruit juice and mint. Then it evolves into something serious: the orange becomes bitter and the vetiver shines, but it doesn’t turn sour, just loses sweetness. It lasted from morning till night, a record. The pyramid serves for a long day where you start energetic and don’t want it to vanish in crowded places at night. I like the fruity-floral touch and the Chanel personality is there, but with unique traits. It’s worth it.

It took me a while to decide due to the high price and the fact it’s an eau de toilette, but it won me over for summer. I sprayed it on my wrist and it lasted over eight hours, alternating the soft, sweet notes of jasmine and iris with the citrus. It makes me feel on another level; it’s wonderful. I recommend testing on skin because everyone’s pH is peculiar; it happened to me with expensive perfumes that didn’t last at all, but with this I got lucky.

I bought it blind and loved it. I already have Chanel Tendre and Fraiche, which I like, but my favourite is Tendre. This one I liked a lot; it’s very soft and fresh. I’m missing the original Chanel to complete my collection.

I bought Eau Vive with great excitement. With my hopes pinned on how it smelled on the blotter when I was sprayed, I went home happily with the bottle, box and red ribbon. My pH broke the charm. I’ll clarify that it’s a beautiful scent; I adore how it smells on clothes and on other people, but my skin ruined it once again. It’s curious. The candied orange peels, fruity woods, vanilla and the typical Chanel trail, which is easy to identify, are lost and turn sour on me. Listen to my heartbreak. I thought I needed to moisturise my skin more, that it was the heat, or that because it’s an eau de toilette it wasn’t a proper perfume. But no. On my mother it smells beautiful. With all the weight of the world, I lent it to her. If your pH doesn’t alter fragrances and you adore the original Chance, you’ll love this flanker.

Damn, I love it and hate it! I adore it for its unique fragrance: citrusy, youthful and fresh, yet distinguished, elegant and mysterious. The Venice girl in the advert explains it all perfectly; it’s not a body splash, it’s the best. But I hate it because it doesn’t last at all, only about two hours, and it’s hard to get it onto clothes even when I bathe in it. When I repurchase, I’ll buy the 100ml bottle to really treat myself because it identifies with me so much. Zero sillage… EDIT: after a week I realised it’s more persistent than it seemed. I can still smell it on my wrist at 3 hours and on clothes days later. The issue is it’s subtle; I’m used to strong perfumes. I like it because it stands out and is different from the rest of my collection.

I liked it quite a bit; it smells of rainy summer citrus, clean, wet grass fields and very aquatic. But oh surprise, it’s not the best I’ve smelled from Chanel; the previous ones smell better and last longer. Nevertheless, I like it, although nothing new in fragrances. I recognise it has an air of elegance and distinction; it has the Chanel class but not the longevity of other better perfumes from this magnificent French house.

I gave it to my girlfriend a few months ago and I love it when she wears it. It’s the second perfume I’ve given her and she has several, but this is my favourite. In fact, I smelled all the Chance line and this was the one I liked most; not even Tendre, which has better reviews, pleased me so much. I love its perfectly balanced citrus and floral touch, very feminine; it suits my girlfriend perfectly, and I’m even more attracted to her when she wears it.
