Descripción
Chemical Love by Olibere Parfums is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition is signed by Luca Maffei. The top notes unfold with absinthe, elemi, and bitter orange; the heart reveals a creamy blend of Baileys Irish Cream, ylang-ylang, and orange blossom; while the base settles on vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, and labdanum.

This house draws inspiration from films; here, it’s Scarface, with its excess and violence. To me, it doesn’t smell like that. At first, I detect the ylang-ylang, an exotic flower that doesn’t suit my skin, but within ten minutes the whisky cream emerges: liquorous, sweet yet sober, with a fresh base of absenta and vanilla. Then the sandalwood comes through, making it woody and creamy thanks to the labdanum and elemi. Over time, the Baileys and woods intensify, boosted by a hidden patchouli and an animalic musk, reminiscent of a gentle, addictive oud. I like it, though it is complicated. It’s unisex, with moderate sillage and longevity. I wouldn’t recommend buying it blind.
I don’t understand this perfume. Vintage? Gourmand? Woody? It’s all at once. It smells like a classic akin to Knowing or Paloma Picasso, but with a boozy gourmand accord added without being properly blended. It opens with a potent eighties-style ylang-ylang, bittered by absenta; it feels strong and woody. Then it sweetens with indistinct liquor notes, alternating between bursts of sweetness, white florals and resins. It didn’t disgust me, but I wouldn’t wear it. Moderate to heavy sillage, lasting between six and eight hours.
I’ve never seen the original film, so I’m focusing purely on the scent. I picked up the 50ml of Chemical Love following my favourite YouTubers who dubbed it ‘the different gourmand’. It certainly is: sensual and elegant, an exquisite blend that smells vintage. It opens resinous and aromatic; the bitter orange fades quickly to yield to the ylang-ylang and Baileys cream, while the orange blossom keeps the sweetness in check. On the skin, it becomes creamy, woody and sensual, always with that hint of absenta. Finally, vanilla and patchouli tie it all together. Moderate sillage, lasting over six hours depending on how many sprays you use.
