Gentlemen Only by Givenchy is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2013, this composition was created by perfumer Jean Jacques. Its olfactive structure unfolds with rose pepper, green mandarin, birch leaves, nutmeg and bergamot in the top notes; the heart reveals vetiver, cedar, patchouli, violet leaves and elemi; while the base settles on incense and musk.

  • I don’t know what this fragrance has, probably the citrus opening with pepper. My nose rejects it to the point of not being able to stand it. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of Dior Sauvage, with which I had exactly the same experience.

  • unlimited3007

It has a style similar to Hugo Boss Hugo… it’s pleasant and agrees with other users who told me it’s perfect for work.

Changing my previous opinion, I find that Givenchy Gentlemen Only is very pleasant and elegant, exactly what I’m looking for. It smells clean, striking, and sparkling, especially due to the mandarin and pink pepper. It lasts quite a while on the skin, about 3 hours. Although it’s not the same, it reminds me of the opening of Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme. At the end, it fades into a base of vetiver, cedar, and patchouli that strongly recalls the classic Azzaro Pour Homme. I think the advertising is honest: it’s a mature, sober, and clean perfume. It delivers what it promises at a good price. Scent: 9/10, Longevity: 9/10, Projection: 9/10, Versatility: 6/10, Price: 9.5/10.

It’s a good fragrance. At first, the mandarin stands out, then in the dry down the spices appear, finishing with a persistent incense that, honestly, is the phase I like least and becomes a bit annoying, though not unpleasant.

  • In Gentlemen Only, the mandarin rules from start to finish. Then a green note comes out, along with cedar and an incense that reminds me of Bleu de Chanel. There’s a common thread with Givenchy Play. Curiously, the Givenchy website doesn’t mention the controversial skin note or other key ingredients. In the end, birch, cedar, and an amber touch are added to the mandarin. Some say it’s a Bleu with mandarin instead of bergamot, and it makes sense, as it lacks that bergamot’s sharpness. Ideal for spring or summer afternoons when it’s not too hot. For work, it’s more formal than casual, but works well with the right outfit. It’s fairly linear but pleasant. Longevity is low to moderate, around 4 hours. I give it 3/5.

  • I love it because it starts fresh and gradually the patchouli, violet, incense, and musk blend in. The change is slow, about two hours, but the evolution until the end is beautiful. I enjoy it a lot, although it doesn’t last long; after 4 or 5 hours I can’t smell it anymore. But the time it does last, it’s very pleasant. It’s my favourite from the Givenchy Gentleman line, along with Xeryus Rouge.

Those of us who know perfumes know that nowadays there is a lot of mediocrity and cheap marketing. But there are exceptions, and this is one. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not the ‘eighth wonder’, but it does have personality, and that counts. It’s more oriental and woody, with light smoky notes and patchouli. It smells earthy and masculine, reminding me of niche orientals like Ambre Fetiche, but softer. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s interesting. If you like orientals that don’t overwhelm, it’s for you. It lasts moderately and the trail reaches far. Ideal for autumn, winter, and evening.

  • At first, it smells of mandarin and is super fresh, but as it dries down, you notice the pepper and a woody touch. It’s a classic gentleman’s scent, inoffensive and pleasant, perfect for the office. Its longevity is a bit short, more like an Eau fraîche, but the scent itself is worth it. Scent: 8.1, Originality: 8, Versatility: 9.5. It works in any weather and suits people over 30. Decent price and quality.

  • From my point of view, this fragrance deserves more attention than it currently gets. While it does have a synthetic edge, it’s clear it’s not the same as the commercial shop perfumes. It’s half-spicy and smoky, but the mandarin adds a fresh touch. It doesn’t project too much; it’s very personal, ideal for everyday office wear or a catch-up with friends. I wasn’t convinced at first, but over time it has become one of my favourites.

  • Exquisite. That woody touch with incense that isn’t overpowering is what I love. It’s ultra-versatile, suitable for any time of year and any time of day. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

  • Benjamin_Cota

Excellent scent, refined, spicy, fresh and woody. It has an 80s-90s vintage style without being outdated. I see it for those over 25 and formal occasions, although it goes well with casual clothes. It’s a flagship fragrance for all year round and is ‘office friendly’ because it doesn’t bother anyone. It doesn’t project much, but I think that’s part of its formal charm. Scent: 9/10, Versatility: 8/10, Longevity: 7/10, Quality: 9/10. In summary: excellent quality, refined and spicy scent, ideal for the office and formal occasions that conveys elegance and sobriety.

  • The opening can be a bit spicy and even synthetic, but after ten minutes it changes to become powdery and sweet, a delight. Good for everyday wear in the office or a night out, but I don’t feel it’s suitable for evening. However, it’s a good purchase.

  • Tonybagrand

It was my signature for years. A wonderful dry all-rounder when the nutmeg comes down. It lasts six to seven hours with moderate projection; you notice it when you pass by or when someone approaches you.

  • Alberto0508

I don’t know much about perfumes, I’m 18 and work in an office. I wear it in summer and it’s very good. At first it feels strong, but it softens over time. In the office, no one knows I’m wearing perfume until I get close, so it’s ideal for enclosed spaces: it doesn’t smell to the whole classroom, but it does to those who approach. It suits both formal and casual attire; I wear it in the morning and by late afternoon it smells wonderful even on the bus. It doesn’t bother anyone. At first I hesitated, but after receiving compliments for smelling clean and fresh (citrusy), I recommend it for places without direct sunlight.

  • Rich, formal and serious, with a sparkling touch that gives it a youthful air without overdoing it. It stands out from the crowd with its incense, pepper, elemi and birch notes, creating an impressive synergy. It reminds me of Animale due to the vetiver, citrus and that accord note, but with its own personality. It’s versatile, good for both young and older people, and stands out in spring and summer, especially in the morning and afternoon.

  • Delicious and refined. I stopped wearing it alone because when I bought Mancera’s Wind Wood, I noticed a familiar violet note. Now I wear it over Wind Wood and give the violet incredible power without spoiling it. Since I love both, I would buy them again. Wind Wood is my signature when it’s not too hot.

  • Longevity is its weak point, barely reaching five hours on the skin, but the scent is exquisite, masculine and serious. Perfect for the office, although it doesn’t cover the whole day without reapplication. I think the price in stores is high for what it offers; the fragrance isn’t bad, it just lacks performance.

  • Erik Obiol

Ideal for younger people. I like the scent, but the trail is poor and it doesn’t last long on my skin. If it were a bit more potent, it would go from a ‘like’ to a ‘love’.

  • AugustoDoc

Rich scent that makes you feel different: fresh yet with spicy and woody notes, very unique. The only downside is it doesn’t project much and lasts about six hours on the skin, but since it smells so good, I don’t mind reapplying it several times.

  • Ideal perfume for the office. The flankers of Gentleman don’t have the rating they deserve, but they are of excellent quality.

  • Krishnamurti

It starts with a citrusy and spicy opening, a burst of pink pepper that fades slightly, a subtle exquisite citrus note of bergamot and a very singular woody resin. What an exquisite aroma! The floral notes are very subtle, perceiving mainly a powdery vetiver and slightly talcum-like. Its woody base is comforting and relaxed, with touches of nutmeg, cedar and birch leaves that give it a powdery, fresh and neat sensation, enveloping in a high-quality musk. It develops in an atmosphere of freshness, cleanliness and great elegance. It’s a well-composed fragrance, synonymous with quality in all its notes. Its nature is fresh-spicy-woody, full of qualities, passing through elegant and sensual, and ending up tender and inoffensive. It causes me an internal sensation of peace, tranquility and comfort. With the versatility of being applied to a formal event adding security, or daily use (office, school) adding confidence and nobility. It’s an almost complete perfume; by its nature we can’t demand performance above average, three to four hours depending on the weather and your pH, but if you keep it in a cool climate you’ll get a delicately pleasant trail. Avoid using it in humid extremes, as it will consume much sooner. If you like this type of fragrance, you’ll know it’s worth the price. Otherwise, you’ll be left waiting for something more. I don’t know the parent brand yet, but in my opinion it leans towards adult, maturity and experience; here we find more towards the youthful without losing that exquisite and quality touch. Its name reveals its essence very well: refinement and exclusivity. Its heavy glass bottle is precious, elegant and sober; a very addictive celestial liquid, you’ll always want to leave your mark. Guaranteed compliments, but not with a connotation of attraction, rather of respect and admiration. The scent adds a feeling of relaxation, comfort and confidence, without aromatic transgression, but a heap of olfactory caresses.

  • I see it for use with a casual shirt; it doesn’t suit a t-shirt and shorts. It has a nutmeg touch like BOSS In Motion (the sphere). It’s a rich, easy-to-wear scent and little known for some reason, considering it’s good. Regarding performance, you need to reapply at the fourth or fifth hour. It has a very potent opening then drops to skin level, but stays warm. Still, it’s a good option to smell different from the most commercial scents.

  • Does Gentleman Only resemble L’Homme Libre EDT? Yes and no. They belong to the same olfactive family and their alchemy is similar, but they differ markedly in performance. It is considerably rich and pleasant, but every attribute L’Homme Libre has, this one lacks: a fairly flat fragrance, poor trail and scant longevity. From when he perfumed himself to go to work until he left the house (at most an hour), the fragrance had almost disappeared. If he had wanted more persistence, he would have had to apply triple the usual amount. Everything that is exuberance in the other is scarcity here. I don’t recommend it from a price-quality point of view.

  • I bought a 2015 tester. The opening is rich, citrusy and spicy, with a grassy note I think comes from birch leaves or patchouli. I like it because over time it dries down to wood and a hint of incense. Ideal for work and daily wear. It smells a bit vintage, from the 90s or 00s. Apply about eight sprays, otherwise you’ll need to reapply. It has quality in those notes. THE BAD: as most people say, it’s the longevity. Givenchy, wake up; you have rich scents but you fail on persistence. Overall rating: 7 to 7.5.

  • Gentleman Only is an inoffensive scent that projects cleanliness and stature. It looks sexy if worn by a well-groomed man in a pressed shirt and polished shoes. It opens with a strong, almost spicy pink pepper note, balanced by mandarin. In the heart, cedar, pink pepper and incense create a mysterious air, like a gentleman who doesn’t show all his cards at first. It’s a bit overlooked in the Gentleman line, but it’s an excellent signature scent; not overused if you want to smell different and pleasant, ideal for daily wear and the office. On my skin, it lasts the whole workday, sometimes nearing ten hours, other times around seven.

  • molletmod.73

Givenchy Gentleman without iris is aldehydic, fresh, sparkling and soft. It has a youthful air, yet nothing too juvenile (even my cat could wear it); quite unisex for today’s landscape. Dry down is herbal and woody, nothing heavy or invasive. Lasts about five hours with a well-domesticated musk and incense. Perfect for spring and summer, for work without leaving a trail, or casual evening outings. In cold weather or for nights out drinking beers and gin tonics, it feels a bit weak; the first novice with Onemilion from Caravan will eat it up.

  • I tried it with just two sprays and was left speechless. It’s a simple, fresh scent with a watery-floral touch that reminds me of Versace Pour Homme. Perfect for everyday wear.

  • For the price, it’s a gem. It has a creamy, fresh vibe; the sweetness isn’t cloying and it suits semi-formal occasions perfectly. If worn daily, it can become a bit tiring by the end of the day. Longevity is average: projects for an hour, then clings to the skin for another six. Rating: 6.5/10. Good perfume for the price.

  • Fragrance for the office and daily use. It gives a very fresh opening with notes of bergamot and mandarin. As it dries, it feels slightly woody. On my skin, it has a projection that doesn’t last past an hour and a very poor trail.

  • A very interesting fragrance that doesn’t resemble anything else on the market. The smoky touches of birch leaf and incense, combined with the vetiver that gives it an earthy character, plus the spices, make it original, spicy and semi-blue/citrusy. It’s not the classic fresh and clean one, nor another office run-of-the-mill perfume. I was surprised by its longevity, over 8 hours, and its trail. I know this is relevant for most, but if the scent is good, it outshines the other Gentleman line scents by a mile. That’s why Givenchy, who isn’t stupid, keeps it in production and even released a new bottle unifying it with the Gentleman line.

  • So casual yet refined at the same time… It’s the quiet one in the room who always looks good. It smells fresh with a touch of sweetness without cloying. I imagine it with a sharper citrus and boom, it would be a hit. It lacks that extra touch to truly stand its ground.

  • GermanioBoy99

An interesting perfume; at first it seems like another run-of-the-mill one, but over time you discover a distinct aroma. It’s a pleasant scent that makes you want to wear it more. It’s an acceptable sweetness that doesn’t cloy, very distinguished. You can detect the pepper, incense and wood. A perfume that demonstrates a silent class yet still draws attention.

  • Escoriapodrida

I love the opening, but as it dries I sense a slightly generic woody scent and it seems quite ‘mature’ for me. I don’t think it’s a safe blind buy.

  • Wlad Molina

Classy freshness: Gentlemen Only is an underrated gem that deserves more attention. The opening is exquisite, citrusy with a subtle spiced sweetness that hooks you without being noisy. The best part is that green, clean sensation, like light woods with a subtle earthy touch. The structure is elegant, masculine and conveys a sophisticated freshness rare in daily wear. Not for teenagers, but for those who want to smell good without drawing too much attention. Perfect for the day, the office or a city summer. If you just want to smell fresh, clean and classy, go for it. I’d give it 9/10. It’s not scandalous or viral, but it has that discreet charm that only true gentlemen appreciate. It’s silent luxury.

  • If you’re looking for a rich, quality scent at a good price, I recommend it. It smells great and can be worn in any season. It projects and leaves a trail moderately, but it’s definitely a compliment getter.

  • Daniel Labra

A distinguished fragrance with character yet versatile, made for the modern man seeking elegance without fuss. It has good projection and medium longevity, suitable for day and night, especially in formal or business settings. The name says it all: an exclusive ‘for gentlemen only’ that captures the essence of refined masculinity.

  • Synthetic citrus opening with a spicy twist reminiscent of Sculpture. Although it doesn’t list white flowers, they are quite present. As it dries, it becomes woody, soapy and very clean, without being loud or trying too hard. An informal and pleasant scent, ideal for everyday wear and the office. A perfume that delivers.
