I trust that ‘this fragrance reminds me of’ is the right start. I’ve just tried the C for Men Woody Leather With Oudh Intense by Clive Christian in search of a replacement for Indompté. The first 15 minutes are identical, but then they diverge; the Clive Christian version leans closer to Montale’s Aoud Leather. I’ll keep looking for a replacement because it will be difficult—this perfume has something spectacular, far more charming than any leather scent I’ve tried.
Simple and exquisite, I think. It’s not a difficult or challenging perfume if you have a taste for leathers or suede. Everything revolves around the suede: fine, elegant, with a dark base without being heavy, a challenging suede. On opening, there’s a citrus presence; the suede always has a woody base. I sense something smoky and perhaps an amber or resinous touch that adds weight. The journey doesn’t alienate with its accords; it gives me a pleasant, addictive, and different feeling. I can’t stop smelling it. A bit more masculine, I see it as perfect for a night decorating the skin with a nocturnal tone without falling into darkness, because even at night one can shine. Formal in bearing, I see myself in it dressed in black, and it evokes sexuality. A night with a dark atmosphere, music, and that minty afterglow. It’s very expensive and could last longer in terms of fixation, though the scent is a 10.
Perfectly identifiable notes, few but very marked. Basically it’s mandarin and a leather with an oud that sits underneath to reinforce and smoky up the first two notes. Keeping things in perspective, it’s in the vibe of an AdP Leather or a Habit Rouge Privé. Along with Foudroyant, perhaps the most masculine of the entire line and for now my favourite.
My first impression: a mix of a new shirt and burnt wood. Right from the start, the bottle is beautiful, minimalist, with a magnetic cap and even the possibility of personalising it depending on where you buy it. In my case, I don’t sense the mandarin, but the oud wood and leather feel very natural and are present from the very second until the fragrance fades. Bought in Argentina for an approximate price of USD 200. It was love at first sniff; if my perfume collection were a naval fleet, Indompté would be my Bismark.
