Seeing it at Zara, the name ‘Jackfruit’ took me by surprise, reminding me of that tropical fruit that used to fall from the tree onto the boulevard in Honduras and, unfortunately, rot on the grass without anyone eating it. Although it’s delicious when fried, its natural scent is quite strong, so I was intrigued that Zara would use it for a perfume. As often happens, the name has nothing to do with the actual aroma; this smells like summer, tropical and very bright, as if it were grapefruit with sugar, no hint of mango, more like a citrus mojito. It’s perfect for the heat, shopping, picnics, or to take a break from heavier fragrances. The only flaw is that it doesn’t last long, about an hour on the skin, but if you like fresh, carefree scents, it’s worth trying, perhaps it lasts longer on another person’s skin.

I spotted it at Zara and the name ‘Jackfruit’ caught me off guard, as it’s a tropical fruit we’re well acquainted with here in Honduras, though many aren’t. When I was little, down by the boulevard outside my home, there was a tree shedding these huge fruits that nobody picked up and just rotted. Once we decided to take one whole thing, which weighed nothing at all, and while it tastes delicious when fried, it smells awful, almost stinking. That’s why I was surprised Zara would use it, but as they often do, the name has nothing to do with the scent. In reality, it smells like summer, citrusy and luminous, like a grapefruit mojito with sugar; I don’t detect any mango whatsoever. It’s perfect for the heat, shopping, or sport. The only downside is it doesn’t last; it wore off on me in an hour, but if you enjoy fresh, carefree fragrances, give it a try, it might last longer on you.
