  I thought it would remind me of Nuit d’Issey in every way, but ultimately it has left me cold. The opening is fine with that citrus touch, but then it dries down to something very basic: ambered leather, slightly sweetened and nothing more. The composition doesn’t fill me, and if you add the fact that it doesn’t last long, then it’s okay but not for me. Of all the Malaki scents, this is undoubtedly the one I liked the least.

  Who said leather doesn’t have to be a cliché? Chopard, the watchmaker known for being correct yet understated, hits the nail on the head again with Malaki. This time, Leather Malaki understands leather through elegance rather than excess. Farewell to greasy, oily or smoky leathers; here we have a spiced suede, polished and fine, built over cedar for structure. The opening is fresh with spices, without shouting, while the heart brings that clean, serious ‘cold incense’ that adds depth without muddying things. In the dry down, Malaki’s DNA emerges: warm, masculine and confident amber, with a trail that accompanies rather than imposes. No tricks, no pretensions, just pure enjoyment, and people notice it on the skin. It’s my second favourite in the line, just behind Black Incense. A gem that deserves more attention. Sober, masculine and incredibly wearable. This is how you make a proper leather scent.
