Pearl by Mancera

I’ve been longing for this perfume for years; it’s notoriously hard to find here, but I finally managed to get it and can confirm it does not disappoint. It is spectacular, supremely feminine, sweet with a rose scent, very fruity, and features that typical Mancera woody base. It reminds me of a rare, delicious fruit called pomarrosa, with an intense pink aroma. I wear it all day, in cold or heat; it is elegant, commanding yet very cosy, a true pearl. I already own Roses Greedy and Roses Vainille, and buying this isn’t redundant; they only share the rose, but their openings and bases are distinct. Of the three, I definitely keep this pearl.

I bought a decant and it smells of freshly cut rose: the scent of the flower mixed with the astringent touch of stems and leaves. It is oily and sticks well to the skin, lasting ten hours with moderate to intense projection for the first three hours (depending on the amount), then softening. If you are looking for a green rose, this is your fragrance. If you dislike the smell of grass, stems, and leaves, do not venture in, as these notes are perceptible. It is not an innocent or elegant rose, but it has enough personality to be distinct.

I hate green notes and this perfume has them. The listed ingredients are incorrect: it does not have fig fruit, but rather fig branches, stems, and leaves. It is a green and bitter fig aroma that is aggressive and unbearable; that bitter green scent is terrifying to me. As it dries down, it leaves a very similar musky rose scent to ‘So Blue’, which I like, but ‘Pearl’ is definitely not pleasant for me in any way.

I’m reviewing this perfume because it was a fantastic purchase. I bought it blind and I love that blend of fruity, citrus, and floral notes. It’s not just for that, though, because it captivates me as it gradually transforms into my clothes and skin in a lovely way. It has splendid potency, never disappoints, and smells fine and elegant. The best part is that it smells uncommon, nothing like anything I’ve smelled before. Its name fits perfectly: it is a precious pearl. I love it.

I tried it on a decant before committing to the full bottle, and I’m glad I did. It’s a distinct scent from what I already own, so I took the plunge. This was my first foray into Mancera. The liquid is clear/yellow and leaves an oily sheen on the skin. The opening is fresh, slightly green, reminiscent of fresh green leaves (I’ve heard it’s fig leaf, though I can’t quite identify it). Around five minutes in, delicate, youthful, and fresh rose notes emerge, with a subtle sweetness that feels neutral. I’m still unsure about the longevity: on some days it faded to skin scent within hours, while on others it lasted until the next day. I hope the decant application didn’t do it justice. The sillage is moderate; I expected a Mancera to be monstrous, but I’m not bothered by it. I think a restrained trail suits its softness and romance perfectly. It reminds me of Montale’s Intense Café, though this is slightly less sweet. Both houses share that rose accord that I adore. I recommend testing before buying. One week later update: it soaked into all my clothes, even after washing. Today, when I applied Olympea Legend, this one still came out on top with certain movements. I’m truly impressed by its longevity.

I bought it blind and got it right: it’s a gem. It lasts around twelve hours with considerable sillage, without being a sweet bomb. Sometimes it smells like Roses Greedy but with a more delicate, creamy rose and a precise sweetness; other times it recalls Pink Prestige due to its green opening. It’s not linear; it goes back and forth: green upon application, then dries down to reveal the fruit and a delicious creaminess. It’s not a perfumery bomb, but it is beautiful. I think anyone would enjoy it. There is a minimal powdery touch on my skin.

Pearl by Mancera. The opening is a powerful explosion of fresh, green roses that lasts about ten minutes. Then the fruit emerges: green apple, peach, and fig. The rose remains present from start to finish; these fruit notes soften the strong opening and seem to refine the scent further with each passing moment. Later, a very timid violet appears, while amber and musk ensure a creamy, clean dry-down. The result is a very fine green rose and fig fragrance. If you like rose and fig with a fresh, clean, and creamy scent, this is your perfume. If you’re looking for something sweet, look elsewhere; this is thoroughly green. Ideal for spring and summer with tremendous fixation and a sillage of at least two metres. It generates many compliments for that clean, elegant vibe. I recommend it; it stands out quite a bit from the perfumery trends of recent years.

Mancera Pearl: I love every single note. It opens with fig and bergamot, sounding masculine and slightly disappointing at first, but after ten minutes the fruits (green apple, peach) shift it to a feminine side. The roses and violets make it delicate, while the ambergris and musk balance everything out. It’s round, balanced, and feminine. It’s not a bomb or overly risky, yet it captivates me. The packaging is lovely with its classic pouch; the bottle feels heavy and solid. A word of caution with the screw cap: if you tighten it too much, the atomiser can pop out when you open it. It feels oily, lasts over ten hours with moderate sillage, and is perfect for the office without being intrusive.
