I tried the Discovery Set and, in my opinion, they are some of the brand’s finest. The scent is fascinating, and those who say they resemble ‘The Noir 29’ are right: they hit that exact concept. You’d need a very experienced nose to spot differences if tested together. However, wearing them dry reveals distinct nuances. ‘Ruy Lopez’ stands out more in the opening thanks to its cherry note; the aroma becomes sweeter, yet not cloying, but rather darker and more mysterious. Although the cherry intensity fades, the fragrance’s longevity remains intact. I believe, with the help of the declared rum, the scent feels nothing like alcohol. I also detect no leather notes whatsoever. Cherry, Rose, Herbal. ‘The Noir’ feels fresher and more herbal; as it dries down, a rose note emerges (I’m unsure where it comes from, as it’s not listed). Fresh, Rose, Herbal. ‘Ekos Alma’ feels more incense-like, cool, and aromatic in the opening. As it dries, a rose appears; whereas in the previous two I sense a red rose, here it is a pink rose, yet not for that reason feminine. Incense, Rose, Herbal. As I mentioned, smelling them separately makes it very difficult to distinguish one from the other. Scent: 9.5. Longevity: 9. Sillage/Projection: 9. Originality: 6.8. Value: 7.
