Climat is an ode to perfumery art, embodying the artisanal quality of houses that always knew how to work well. Its opening is a fantasy where so many ingredients blend together that it’s hard to decipher the notes; they gradually reveal their character and intensify over time because it’s an extract that doesn’t spray on the skin but needs to build strength with body heat. Yet this perfume doesn’t falter at the start or the end; with over 21 years of age, it remains light as a May rose, subtle yet potent, as if waiting to be worn. Not a single drop has gone off. If they can’t replicate it now in a laboratory, then they charge 300 quid for it, obviously. It’s the creamiest aldehydic floral I’ve ever tried; the characteristic of Climat Extrait is that buttery, creamy, aldehydic quality. A creaminess for seconds with a hint of grease that never tips into being greasy, hitting the perfect spot, all with an aldehyde that doesn’t make it sharp. Amidst it all, flowers that are part of the most spirited spring bloom ever to exist, narcissus and lilies, barely picked by the Virgin Mary for you. Everything is measured to the millimetre because the flowers are noticeable but don’t overpower, like having the ingredients of the best aldehydes from 50 years ago steeping. And the civet, oh mother, the civet adds just the right note that doesn’t feel lewd, not at all; it’s a note that adds elegance. The truth is, when it’s civet, it adds perfect elegance to a great perfume, and don’t say silly things about civet because once you get used to this component, you miss it. It’s inexplicable that a house like Lancôme, which created one of the most precious fantasies for ‘anyone’, now asks you to pay for perfumes that may not match the quality of what they created for your essential organs. Climat brings beauty to the spirit; it’s a perfume that makes me feel, I finally feel what all those writings told me about what perfumes were before and the alchemy of the Midas kings that perfumers were, because they created and invented with wonderful ingredients that today are unreachable for what they call progress; I’d say progress as in regression in craftsmanship. But I stop thinking about it when I wear it; this perfume served me to disconnect from the malicious claws of corporate greed that buy houses just to profit. They may take all my perfumes but they’ll never take away how beautiful Climat smelled; they may destroy everything for their gains but the beauty of these perfumes that existed will be buried, even so, they won’t kill it because in everyone’s heart that beauty remains, beauty endures forever in time and that belongs to me.
