Wanted by Night by Azzaro

A timeless scent that is no longer available… I fondly remember its launch in 2018, my first signature fragrance. It was an elegant bomb of citrus, cinnamon, and woody tobacco, a brutal combination. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued and is now hard to find. I recently managed to get one of Wanted by Night out of nostalgia, but it is not what I remembered. The few remaining batches seem reformulated; the opening is a sharp, almost candy-like orange, far from that elegance. Fortunately, as it dries down, the DNA of tobacco and cinnamon remains. The longevity and sillage are decent, but they are not the projection bomb of before. I do not keep it in rotation; it is purely a collector’s piece. I would not recommend it today; the Most Wanted line has more staying power. Only buy it if you are an old-school fan moved by nostalgia, not if you are looking for something new.

A magnificent fragrance for winter and the night. A warm, pleasant aroma that invites closeness, balanced and easy to wear. I know it has already been discontinued in some regions and the current version has been reformulated, but frankly, I did not know the original versions. I have a 2024 batch and it truly fascinates me.

In Spain, this fragrance was discontinued quite some time ago. It was sold for a while with the reformulation by the new distributor, but it had nothing to do with the original formula: watery notes, many missing, poor projection, and short longevity, which was already the case with the 2018 version, though to a lesser extent. I do not know if it is sold anywhere, but it has not been in stores for ages. It was reformulated and then delisted from the WANTED AZZARO line. I had the original and now I keep the ‘bad’ one as a memory. It had a youthful air with mature tendencies; the reformulation made it more youthful but with very poor performance.

Whether this review is long or entertaining depends on the reader’s decision. I was very intrigued by the bottle and the colour; knowing it had sweetness due to the fame of the Wanted line, but reading the notes (leather, incense, patchouli, cedar, cumin, cinnamon) I imagined something sweet with a woody, spiced, and mature base, with its touch of vanilla. I looked for reviewers from my generation and saw that several, even one around 45 years old, said it was elegant, mature, and dark—the most mature in the line, for people aged 28-30 and above. Being from my generation, I took the risk and bought it blind. The reflection is interesting: fragrances do not have an age, but rather the psychology of the person wearing them. If a 40-year-old man wears a childish cologne, it makes a bad impression. That happened to me. The scent is fine for the appropriate age, a boy aged 15 to 25. Not for an adult like me at 43. If they told me it had incense, leather, and woods, I imagined something like Tuscan Leather or Man In Black sweetened. Nothing of the sort: it is a blast of sweet mandarin (2-3 minutes) and extremely sweet, gummy fruits, with touches of sweet cinnamon, patchouli, and vanilla. No leather, incense, or tobacco is perceptible. For young people who like Scandal, One Million, or Invictus, they can buy it blind. It has nothing mature; it is youth and party in a bottle.

Wanted By Night smells delicious, featuring cinnamon, wood, honey, and a touch of floral lavender that gives it a slightly ‘gentlemanly’ vibe. It’s ideal for select nights, family dinners, or Christmas parties where you want to project warmth and confidence. I’d give it 8/10: the scent is top-notch, though it’s not super versatile.

Cinnamon with character! ⚠️ Only for cinnamon fans. It starts with lavender and citrus, but within seconds, cinnamon takes charge, mixed with wood, tobacco, and patchouli. The first hours are intense; the only thing that bothers me is a synthetic touch of ‘cinnamon gum’. As it dries down, an herbal note emerges that completely changes the game. It’s rich, but not for everyone. Try it on your skin and wait an hour before deciding. I don’t see it as unisex: it’s a very characterful masculine cinnamon. Note: 8/10. It’s not bad, just not universal.

There’s not much more to add, as everything has already been said… but it’s incredible. My only drawback is that I live in Mérida (Yucatán, Mexico), where it’s around 35°C. If you live in a temperate or cold climate, it’s highly recommended. It’s a gem, like all in this line.

It’s like a Dylan Blue but without that sharp citrus opening. I love it; I don’t find it very sweet. It complements Versace very well because this one is more nocturnal and direct. Ideal for cold or temperate climates.

I bought it and perhaps it’s the batch or me, but in the shop it smells rich, sweet, clean, with wood, tobacco, and cinnamon. On the skin, it’s a different story: the opening smells like detergent and then dries flat to incense. Total disappointment.

There are fragrances made for everyone; this isn’t one of them. It’s masculine, sweet, and 100% for night. The opening is hard to take, but as it dries, the leather and cumin come to the fore, followed by incense and then the tobacco that takes over. I’ve worn it for a few days and definitely it’s not a blind buy; it even smells like an old perfume. Important: when the base notes settle, it changes a bit, feeling less sweet and slightly fruity. I still don’t say I dislike it, but it disappointed me because I wanted it for years and upon buying it, it wasn’t what I expected or what people said. Moderate projection and longevity, though it projects superbly for the first hour.

I don’t usually complain about perfumes because each has its lights and shadows, but with over 300 in my collection, I can assure you that the performance of this eau de cologne is ridiculous. It has disappointed me in everything except the scent, which is indeed good vibes for afternoon or night. What a disappointment… There are Mercadona perfumes that give this one a good thrashing on both sides. I don’t know if it’s my batch, but if they all behave like this, it’s throwing money away. End.
