Reminds me very much of Hugo Boss The Scent, with that prominent leather and suede giving it a mature, formal touch, combined with sweet fruits that bring it closer to the first edition, though they aren’t identical. While Hugo Boss has that characteristic apple note, this Defy Eau de Parfum leans heavily into a very sweet, spicy mandarin. It’s not redundant to own both, but they do suit the same occasions… excellent performance for a Calvin Klein fragrance.

Defy EDP is aromatic, spicy, and leathery. It opens fresh with citrus and black pepper, reminiscent of Issey Miyake’s Nuit. Over time, it turns darker, earthier, and more leathery, while keeping the clean DNA of the original EDT. After two hours, a touch of wood appears, though it stays spicy, leathery, and clean. This is the darker, spicier version, perfect for evening, autumn, spring, or winter days. It suits the office or casual outings equally well. The longevity wasn’t the best, lasting around five to six hours: a regular trail for the first hour before dropping to skin scent. I’m not sure if it’s more interesting than the EDT; it depends on taste. Those who love spices will be delighted, but if you prefer clean, fresh aromas, perhaps not so much. The best thing is to try it and come to your own conclusions.
