  I tried this at a perfumerie and I believe this version has gone a bit too far on the spice front, whether it’s pepper or whatever. The spicy note is so high it drowns out everything else; I no longer smell pine or fir as I used to. I don’t dislike spices with leather, but over time it becomes a bit cliché.

  Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Extreme was my choice (blind buy, of course) to own a sample from this Italian house. Blind buying is my sport because the adrenaline of imagining the scent from the notes is incredible, even though I had no reference of how it would wear on me. It’s like crossing the edge of a razor: the price isn’t comfortable here. It’s a white, sweet leather, clean, with nervous floral touches and lots of nutmeg and chilli. A forager compares it to Bel-Ami and Equipage geranium, and I agree. It’s a favourite in my leather collection. It opens intense, irritating and saturated, just like the 90s Bel-Ami; the quality is evident. The bottle is sober and crystalline. It’s like night-blooming flowers: from a distance it smells good, but if you over-spray, it becomes irritating. It’s potent, requires moderation and common sense, it’s a carefully assembled weapon. It was a great pleasure to buy; it has 70% of the spirit of the old Bel-Ami, lasts excellently and projects class. It’s not a Bel-Ami, it’s complex, demanding and not for noses with low tolerance. It’s a scent as complex as a book by Kant, but once understood, it opens a universe of sensations. Formal to semi-formal, suitable for all four seasons, with moderate applications in spring and summer. 9.6.

  “La Trampa” is the name given to this fragrance, and they are right: it smells like the best version of yourself, super elegant. If you pair it with good style, you conquer anyone and achieve anything you set your mind to. It’s luck in a bottle. From the very first moment, I can’t stop sniffing my arm every time I wear it, something that doesn’t happen with others. It sounds intimidating, as my best friend told me: ‘I always ask what you’re wearing, but now I’m embarrassed by how good you smell… what on earth have you put on?’. Ideal for evening, cold, windy weather, formal or casual wear. No matter the mood, once it’s on, everything seems possible, and the only impossibility is not feeling as good as you smell.
