Davidoff has created many fragrances throughout its history, but this is undoubtedly the best scent in their entire collection. I don’t understand how they discontinued such a jewel; it’s as if you took Velázquez’s Las Meninas and burned it so no one else could enjoy it live. The scent is complex to explain, and there is nothing similar on the market to compare it to. You feel a fresh and smoky opening; the citrus adjusts towards an almondy freshness, and the herbs take you to a green, lush landscape—a fern world from the dinosaur era—without being overwhelming, well-measured. The smoky base is soft; oakmoss, leather, and castoreum appear quickly from the heart notes, pushing the fragrance towards a breeze that envelops and hypnotises you for three to four hours, making it impossible to move your nose away from your arm. It’s like being in Paradise Lost. The longevity is brutal, and the moderate trail makes it ideal for daytime wear. A fern with the finest leather turns Davidoff Classic into the paradigm of masculinity, something unique that could only be done in the 80s. I don’t understand how one of the best male fragrances in the history of perfumery is so forgotten and has no more reviews. It’s a unique, intoxicating scent and the great jewel of my vintage collection, a piece for which I truly have a memory!! Rating: 9.8.

Davidoff de Davidoff 1984. Wow, smelling this is like travelling back in time, a deja vu of the past. It reminds me of those lovely times at the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s. What a pity I didn’t enjoy it at 20; I was just a child. The scent is super smoky, floral, fresh, and woody. Very masculine; I find nothing feminine or unisex in it, but if a woman wore it, she would attract attention and I would love to smell something so masculine on her, something different, extraordinary, from another planet. It is beautiful; I adore it. I wish I could find another bottle; I have never seen a large one, only this 5ml miniature which I cherish like gold. I apply very little and it lasts an eternity, with a spectacular trail. It is evident that it is vintage from the 80s, cheerful, melancholic, and romantic, as if it wanted to convey poetry: a passionate man, a seducer by nature and a dreamer, who imagines that this scent makes him happy and spends the day with the love of his life, Virginia Madsen, from the film Fire with Fire, the same year it was created. Those films that mark you forever. I will never forget that woman and her role, so much innocence and smiles that heal. This perfume drives me crazy just as Virginia Madsen does. If that fantasy came true, it would be like dying and being reborn in the right body, in the times one desires. Sometimes it brings me vague memories of Gucci Nobile with a touch of Drakkar Noir, but my Davidoff is much better and unique, like my Virginia Madsen. It is impossible for them to launch something like this today, but I will pray to find another bottle. What a luxury fragrance and bloody brilliant, it blows my mind. In my head, ‘SO/BURNING BUSH’ from 1988 plays, songs that kick you in the soul, make you want to laugh, light a rum cigar, and fly with the joy of those years strolling down the avenue of my beloved Buenos Aires. Davidoff is not just another perfume; it is pure magic and happiness that no other perfume gives. There is a person inside that bottle who only needs to come to life.

The sales assistant let me smell it before buying, and one sniff had me hooked. Created by Edouard Flechier, a genius behind masterpieces like Parfum d’Homme, Aramis Havana, and Poison. Davidoff Classic is a journey back in time: men who smoked, atmospheric settings, devoid of today’s obsession with ultra-hygiene. The aromatic fern shines here, integrating beautifully over time. You feel a blast of oakmoss, smoky notes, and a crystal ray of lime. It’s fresh yet wild, like an idyllic family film disrupted by a disturbing element. Think of it as an ‘office perfume with intrigue’. The citrus side doesn’t disappear, but the smoky tone becomes dangerous: castoreum, woods in a swamp, and dry leather like the desert. It’s a powerhouse; imagine a friendlier but more threatening Antaeus. The blend is beautiful and original, though not for everyone. It has excellent longevity and a moderate trail that isn’t intrusive. I understand why it was discontinued; its quality suggests it wasn’t cheap to produce. It doesn’t fit current trends, and I doubt it can be recreated with cheap synthetics.

A work of art that has nothing to do with Antaeus or Egoiste. Come on, Kouros! Goodness, where are the olfactory neurons of those who claim such nonsense? This is a perfume for men from another era, currently almost extinct and erased by the aromatic trifles of current trends, which offer little of the artisanal olfactory art of the past; now a computer analyses trends, mixes notes by the yardstick, and creates synthetic sludge. Here is the best fragrance ever made with lemon, oakmoss, and castoreum. If you don’t know it, do everything possible to know it and use it. After the truths, not the nonsense.
