Although it is the freshest and less intense version, I still detect that woman’s lipstick note. I hope the 2013 reformulation surprises me and changes this impression.
Although it is the freshest and least intense version, it still smelled of women’s lipstick. I hope the 2013 reformulation will surprise me.
My love-hate story with Dior begins with Dior Homme Cologne 2007. In 2005, the original was an instant olfactive crush; it smelled of the future, luxurious yet unpretentious, sober and cheerful. It was romantic with a rogue touch, a bottled masculinity that was abstract and refined. When this flanker arrived in 2007, I thought it would be identical but lighter for the heat. It was: dry, powdery, with soft leather and spiced cacao. It works brilliantly in the heat and, although less heavy, allows more personalisation with your skin. I even liked it more than the original. But in 2013 came the reformulation: it smelled of cleaning product, citrus, and astringency. I felt insulted, as if they’d sold me deodorant. Although I eventually accepted it was due to poor sales, I still harbour resentment over the reformulation mess. Today, with my 2007 bottle nearly empty, I consider it the greatest treasure in my collection. It’s art, 10/10.
My love-hate story with Dior: in 2005, DH gave me an olfactive crush, something fresh, futuristic and without vulgarity, luxurious yet unpretentious, ideal for the young, romantic with a touch of bad boy. In 2007, its cologne fulfilled my expectations: lighter, with a dry iris note, soft leather and spiced cacao, perfect for the heat. I liked it even more than the original for being more natural and relaxed, a romantic jewel at close range that suits my skin. But the 2013 reformulation disappointed me: it smelled of citrus deodorant, nothing like the original magic, leaving me with a bad taste and resentment towards the brand for changing a classic. Although the 2011 DH smells good, it is more commercial and less artistic. Today I keep my 2007 bottle with affection, my greatest treasure, to remind myself of that lost art, hoping one day to enjoy it again. 10/10.
Faithful to the Dior Homme line, iris stands out from the start alongside notes of great character such as leather and cacao. Although it is a cologne, it is quite dense and not so summery, but for temperate climates it is a total jewel. Extremely difficult to find, a pity that it is so.
True to the Dior Homme line, the iris stands out from the start alongside characterful notes of leather and cacao. While the longevity is decent, it’s quite dense for a cologne—not ideal for summer, but an absolute gem in temperate climates. It’s extremely hard to find, which is a shame.
