Luna Rossa Ocean by Prada

A beautiful fragrance, slightly sweet and refined. It has that particular ‘something blue’, but to me, it smells mostly of soap. The first thing that comes to mind is Skip powder soap, haha. LUNA ROSSA OCEAN: I have mixed feelings. I love the scent, but the longevity leaves much to be desired. If it were just about the smell, it would be one of the best blues out there today. A fresh citrus, spiced with pepper and marked by the house’s musk. Super rich from the opening to the dry down, even at the end it reminds me of the 90s. Unfortunately, it falls short. Outdoors, it’s noticeable for the first two or three hours, then drops to skin level to last a couple more. I think where it truly shines is in the office. If you’re looking for compliments, this is the one. Prada is one of my favourite houses. The Daniela Roche-Andrier era was brilliant, leaving an important legacy. Amber Pour Homme Intense, Luna Rossa Black, or the Infusions are some of her best works. Times are changing at Prada, and this Ocean line is a clear example of that.

I love the scent, sweet but not cloying, and at the same time fresh and elegant. I definitely love the notes; I see many don’t like iris, but I differ slightly as I do enjoy it. The aroma lasts an average time on skin and clothes, but the projection and trail are not good ☹️. If it lasted longer and projected more, it would enter my top list; I love the smell, but the longevity leaves much to be desired. This doesn’t mean I wouldn’t recommend it; another negative point is that if you want to smell good all day, you need to reapply 1 or 2 times more.

A floral masculine fragrance, nothing special, which on my skin lasts a short time.

The opening is brutal, one of the best I’ve tried. I leave for the office with a smile on my face. I don’t know if it’s the batch or I’m suffering from olfactory fatigue, but after two hours it smells as if I’d just splashed water on myself. I don’t mind reapplying, but it’s a shame it can’t compete with other blues.

The iris in Prada is the strongest and driest of all. I’ve given it many chances, but this perfume gives me a sore throat and a headache 😹. And it lasts a long time! So aggressive that it causes anosmia in people.

It lacks longevity and one other thing: the caramel fades very quickly, but the first hour is incredible. 7/10.

Re-review: after two weeks, it is one of the fragrances with the worst performance I’ve tried, if not the worst. 2023 batch. I spray it 10 times (without exaggerating) and it disappears in less than two hours. No trail, confirmed by people around me. A pity, because the aroma hooked me a lot. When it’s gone, I won’t buy it again. I don’t recommend it. Impulses aren’t always right: the aroma convinced me, and a lot. The evolution from opening to dry-down is interesting, ephemeral, the longevity is lacking. It’s an EDT, but with the two 10ml bottles I have, it replicates my workday and I see it as more versatile. I’m tempted to wear it for any situation. It’s neat, soapy, slightly sweet, very pleasant. First impressions. Surely it will need re-evaluation after longer tests. The sense of longevity is very poor. Barely on skin in 3 hours (last year’s batch) and, woe is me, lavender everywhere. If you like this note, bathe in it, but if it overwhelms you as it does me, run. I see it similar to Libre by YSL due to the lavender load, and that’s why it doesn’t quite fit for me. Luckily the iris softens it. It ends up being a pleasant, neat, harmless soapy perfume, and the lavender doesn’t leave. I couldn’t stand the caramel. I was looking for something for everyday use and this isn’t it. I’ll keep testing it.

Acquired after multiple trials in travel and shops. Rich, a versatile ‘blue’ fragrance, smells clean with quality and is not invasive, very original. It distances itself from classics like Bleu, Y, Sauvage, Dylan Blue… It has the positive addition of not carrying ambroxan, a note I don’t like. After a nice citrus-herbal opening, it stands out for its magnificent lavender (its Luna Rossa DNA) alongside an exquisite sage, to emerge afterwards with a very nuanced ‘Prada brand’ iris with a slight, subtle, enjoyable sweetness in the base. No marine touches. I agree it’s much better achieved than Ocean EDP and Parfum. Although it is Luna Rossa, it leans more towards the normal Prada Homme or EAU, but it turns out to be more playful, less stern, more jovial, a touch sweeter, just enough, and a bit more expansive with the same longevity. Along with Loewe 7 Cobalt it’s my preferred dupa for designer ‘blue’ perfumes: Cobalt is more striking, evolutionary, original and incense-based, and Prada Luna Rossa Ocean is neater, discreet, conquering and short-range. For me it lasts 5-6 hours, no more, with moderate projection in a personal bubble although it hooks onto clothes a lot. For long days one has to reapply. Tried in summer and very well, very wearable; less so in cold weather it’s very versatile. Mainly I see it for daytime use, although some evenings it can look good. Not suitable for everyone, some will prefer others from the Luna Rossa line or directly the Prada Homme, although it’s hard for it to disgust anyone. If you like it as I do, well done!, nowadays it’s very well priced for the quality of its notes and its distinction. If one day I abandon my madness for perfumery, I would get a 200ml bottle of this for single-use in any occasion. Salu2.

It smells flippy.

A decent fragrance all round. From the first spray, I understood two things: it is a blue fragrance through and through and doesn’t reinvent the wheel… but I must make several points. Firstly, I do not perceive the overused ambroxan that persists in its competitors, which distinguishes it, at least for those users who enjoy testing perfumes. Secondly, it takes a slight risk with a clearly musky and sweet base that is not derived from coumarin, as in other proposals, and although this doesn’t result in a major change by the end of the day, it does give it a slight character of its own. It is a pleasant fragrance that won’t clash during the day or at more intimate gatherings, though it won’t spark romantic fervour either. True that ladies like it, but in my experience, almost all blue fragrances do. Among blue fragrances, it is not one of the least in terms of projection and longevity, nor is it one to set off fireworks. Both characteristics are good and improve with temperate or slightly warm temperatures. Regarding the price, I have my doubts; if one is seeking blue fragrances with good performance, it is not entirely clear that this is a winner, but it remains an option to consider. Having said that, I join the opinion of those who think squeezing the cow until the bones is already tiresome. Making yet another version is certainly annoying, and while it is not surprising that Prada did it, it is disheartening for those who knew the fame and elegance of that house. The standards are being lowered in these times, perhaps not in the product itself but in the concepts of what they sell and in treating the user as a mere fool. Sad.

I bought this a year ago and am finally reviewing it. Usage and compliments: After so long, I wore it to an English class in a closed room, and people kept asking what perfume I was wearing and how nice it smelled. Another time, a cashier at a supermarket loved it and asked the same questions. If you’re looking for constant compliments, this isn’t the best, but it will definitely get you some, so don’t worry about that. Scent: Linked to the compliments is the aroma itself, and personally, I really like this fragrance; I’m fascinated by it. It’s the typical ‘blue’ scent but with a slightly sweet undertone. It’s very masculine, not unisex at all. As for the sweetness, it’s just a touch, so don’t panic if you hate syrupy perfumes. You won’t find anything like One Million or Ultra Male here either, just a bearable sweetness that won’t give you a headache on hot days when wearing it. Projection and longevity: This is my disappointment. The projection is very poor, and so is the longevity, perhaps lasting at most four hours, with projection only for the first hour and a half. Honestly, in this regard, it’s a disaster, but if you don’t have my problem with needing to reapply, go ahead. Conclusion: Would I buy it again? Of course, since it’s a scent not everyone has or knows, and I really enjoy using it. It’s true that the projection and longevity are horrendous, but reapplying solves that.

WOMEN LOVE IT! Men not so much. All those who reviewed it ‘badly’ seem to be the type of people who prefer generic scents… perhaps they had a stuffy nose, or weren’t in the right climate, temperature, or mood. Estela: Moderate, projecting for five hours. Longevity: Eight hours on aura and twenty-four on skin. Gender: Masculine. Season: Autumn-winter, or spring-summer nights if overapplied. ***IT IS NOT A BLUE FRAGRANCE***, and perhaps that’s why many were disappointed. The opening is fresh with a very elegant clean aroma (characteristic of Prada); the iris is always present but a clean, unblocked, subtle iris. Lavanda becomes noticeable throughout, with dark leather touches, and a sweet, fresh base that persists all the way through. I recommend it for when you’re dressed well, not in your favourite football team’s t-shirt, nor for going to a bar for wings. It’s a fragrance for a man who knows he’s had a bit of a rough day. The opening does remind me slightly, just a little, of Dylan Blue, but within a minute, it finds its own path towards elegance and freshness. Don’t buy it if your tastes are generic; if you’re looking for the typical blue fragrance, you need a more trained nose than average.

Having Kenzo Homme EDT Intense, this one faded to the background. Fortunately, there’s not much left in the bottle. It’s not a bad scent, but nothing special enough to keep as a backup… something I do have with the Kenzo, which plays in a different league regarding projection, trail, longevity, and aroma (though this is subjective, as every nose is a different world). Kenzo Homme EDT Intense covers the marine/fresh/blue category far better, being one of the best designer scents… Prada Luna Rossa Ocean won’t return to my collection when it runs out; I’ll just keep the bottle.
