Warm and spicy, that’s Rococo. It begins with clear bergamot and incense, but then the incense drops and the resins, dark cocoa, and plenty of cloves dominate. The powdery touch of heliotrope is barely a whisper. The result is dry and unisex to my nose. Moderate sillage, lasting around 8-9 hours. It’s a bit like Jungle L’Elephant or Gold Noir, but it’s lighter, less sweet, and has that cocoa the others lack. A delicious perfume with good performance; I’d add it to my shopping list when I finish one that reminds me of it, although I prefer more sweetness in this style. Scent 7/10, Longevity 8.5/10, Sillage 7/10, Value for money 5/10, Versatility 7/10, Packaging 10/10. Would I buy it again? I haven’t bought it yet.

I suppose it’s not called Quezalt because Venice didn’t trade much with pre-Columbian civilisations in Mexico during their golden age. This smells like Mexican mole: thick, resinous, and animalic. A deep, enveloping aroma, unisex but with a masculine tint. Although it opens very chocolatey, the resines soon take over, giving it a slightly dirty edge, like in chocolate factories: rich but with a background of burnt fat. Over time, that dirtiness disappears, leaving an interesting resinous cocoa that becomes sweeter with the benzoin. A beautiful winter perfume, ideal for special occasions, but not forbidden for daily wear in the cold. It projects and lasts a long time. Of the chocolate scents I’ve tried, this is the best; it doesn’t smell like dessert or plastic: the quality is evident. The price is outrageous; I hope they release a sample set of the premium line, because all I’ve tried are worth it. Pleasant: 8/10, Interesting: 8/10, Versatile: 7/10, Original: 9/10.

Wow, I hit the jackpot with this one. I bought it purely because it was on offer. The Merchant of Venice didn’t convince me before; I own two other scents from the house that left me cold, but Rococo changed my mind. The opening is confusing, yet within seconds you detect the incense, cloves, lavender, a rich base floral, and a soft cocoa that balances everything. It stopped me in my tracks. It’s excellent—dense, spicy, deep, and pleasurable. I see it for night outs or special events; it would be a waste for work. It needs to be dressed up and dignified; it’s almost imperial. For mature people aged 30 and above, for formal occasions. Scent 10/10, Sillage 9/10, Longevity 9/10, Projection 9/10. Highly recommended.
