Tonka Imperiale by Guerlain is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2010, this composition was created by perfumer Thierry Wasser. The top notes of bitter almond, rosemary and bergamot provide a vibrant opening; the heart reveals the warmth of tonka bean, tobacco and jasmine; while the base settles on incense, cedar and pine.

A beautiful tonka fragrance (as the name suggests) with lots of vanilla and a hint of almond; I don’t detect any tobacco whatsoever. It’s sophisticated and reminds me of the Feve Delicieuse I already own, so I don’t see the need to have both. For me, it’s discreet, it doesn’t invade personal space, and honestly, I prefer the Dior version. It lasts about six hours on the skin.
At first, upon spraying, I thought it would be a clone of the original Shalimar, with that bergamot and incense base upfront, but then everything changes. Once it dries, it smells different, with tonka at full volume, almond and jasmine standing out on my skin, with a soft sweetness. The Millésime Tonka edition, though not identical, comes very close indeed.
