Perfumer
Jordi Fernández
Jordi Fernández is a senior perfumer at Givaudan, one of the world’s leading fragrance and flavour companies. Born and brought up in Catalonia, Spain, Jordi was drawn to the art of perfumery from an early age. Unlike many perfumers who followed the traditional path of studying at the ISIPCA perfume school in Versailles, Jordi is a self-taught perfumer.
"Perfumery is a perpetual form of creativity, a universal culture that unites all diversities"
Inspired by the perfection of nature and driven to capture its entirety and complex beauty, Jordi Fernández creates unique perfumes with a powerful trail and a lasting presence. From the Mediterranean cologne that evokes his childhood memories to the oud and incense of the Middle East that embody the impressive sunsets in the dunes, Jordi draws inspiration from his own emotions, treasured memories, people and his ongoing travels, which allow him to explore a wide range of ingredients. As a self-taught and resilient perfumer, he states that "perfumery is a visionary art," as his creations strive to reflect today’s society, its people and its evolution. Being a perfumer is not only his chosen profession, but also a way of life through which he seeks to showcase the splendour of nature.
Jordi began his career in perfumery at Eurofragrance, a family-owned fragrance company based in Barcelona. There, he quickly proved himself to be a talented and creative perfumer, with a deep understanding of the science behind fragrance formulation. However, Jordi was eager to broaden his horizons and work with some of the world’s most important luxury brands.
In 2010, Jordi joined Givaudan, where he has worked with numerous high-end fragrance brands since then, including Montblanc, Carolina Herrera, Versace and Dolce Fiore, among others. Jordi’s experience in traditional Middle Eastern perfumery has earned him a reputation as a master of oud and other exotic aromas. He has spent many years immersing himself in Middle Eastern culture, meeting people and visiting places in order to gain a deep understanding of the region’s fragrance preferences and traditions.
Jordi’s versatility as a perfumer is evident in his ability to create fragrances across a variety of genres. From minimalist to opulent, his style is multifaceted and he feels equally comfortable composing fragrances for men and women. His minimalist style is shown in Montblanc Explorer, his most popular fragrance to date, which he developed in collaboration with Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux. The scent is characterised by bergamot, vetiver and patchouli notes, and it has been widely praised for its elegant simplicity.
