I bought an Ultra Male in Aruba in 2012 and loved it; I bought it again in 2025 and it smells different. Did they reformulate it, or is it just me? I also bought 9pm and it smells the same as this version, but it’s not even a shadow of what I remember. It smells good, but it doesn’t resemble the original fragrance. Does anyone know anything about this?
Can anyone explain why this fragrance is for winter/autumn while Le Beau is for spring/summer? It seems you’re lacking a bit of sense. I’ve tested it several times in-store comparing it with the 9pm at home, and none convince me. There’s something about the sweetness of the JPGs that on my skin smells like a biscuit and I don’t like it. On paper they smell better, but they still aren’t my thing. People love when I spray them on, but they just don’t suit me. Compared to 9pm, the JPGs have sharper, more strident citrus notes. They’re very similar, and if you’re not used to it, you won’t notice the differences. Between how similar they are and the fact that they’re a very mass-market scent, I’d buy 9pm first; you don’t have anything special with either, but at least you spend 20€ instead of 70€. Plus, 9pm seems to have better longevity.
Ultra Male is an exquisite blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and fruit resulting in something striking and playful, a queen of the night. Its performance is excellent and it has established itself as a classic in men’s perfumery. It’s a treasure that every collector must own. I recommend it without hesitation for its unique and memorable olfactory experience.
One of the best I’ve owned. I love JPG’s sweet perfumes, and this is the top. The best thing is that it evolves: initially sweet but not cloying, and after hours, the intensity drops yet remains pleasant. Some don’t like it at first, but then they become enchanted. Highly recommended for night dates or formal events, though with the risk of attracting very interested girls.
What more is there to say? At first, it smells of pear gum, then the freshness of lavender and mint emerges, and finally it blends with woody cedar that smells like new pencil. Despite being sweet, the freshness and woody notes give it great masculinity; the pear ties everything together beautifully with the vanilla and cinnamon. Without a doubt, it’s the second best, right behind Le Male Le Parfum.
It’s my girlfriend’s favourite perfume; it lasts long enough for a party and is highly recommended if you can find it at a good price.
I loved it at first and bought it for evening wear, making it one of my favourites. However, now it gives me nausea because it’s so hot, and using it on a crowded bus is unbearable. It’s a delightful fragrance, but it needs to be worn at the right time and occasion.
Absolute gem and delicious! On my skin, it lasts four hours with an hour of projection, although being one of the later batches, the longevity has been affected. Aside from that, it’s a fantastic perfume.
It smells like fruity gummies, but it’s not for me. It feels very youthful and informal; almost, I’d say it’s a women’s fragrance.
Le Male Le Parfum is my go-to for dates, but if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, Afnan’s 9pm costs a third of the price and, in my opinion, is superior. I know many people prefer the original, but I simply favour the scents of 9pm.
It smells of sweets and powdery dust, but in a super masculine way. It is extremely superior to the 9PM; there’s no comparison. It’s my favourite from JPG.
It’s addictive; I love the scent and it’s one of the first fragrances people compliment on my halo. It doesn’t have the best longevity; I’d say it lasts 1-2 hours with a strong-to-moderate trail; the last 2 hours the projection drops to 10-15cm, but it performs very well. It feels moderately fresh with extremely high quality. If you can afford this, the 9PM doesn’t come close in quality.
After the sweet-and-sour taste of the classic Le Male, I decided to return to JPG and things changed. The Ultra Male has that lavender that reminds me of the original, but with sparklier, younger touches. You can smell the pear and mint; sometimes it reminds me of Versace Eros, but with a younger, almost feminine touch. The performance is acceptable; it lasts and projects quite well, making itself noticed. Ideal for nights, parties, meet-ups in open venues or clubs. I wouldn’t use it for night weddings, dinners, or discreet dates because it projects too much; there are other options for that. Overall, it’s satisfactory; you don’t go unnoticed. The price seems high given there are inspirations like the 9PM that come close. It’s a youthful aroma that puts me in a good mood, with a desire to go out and attract glances.
For me, this is the quintessential party fragrance. I don’t see it as just a winter scent thanks to its fruity opening, which takes me more to the night than to the cold. The vanilla blends with something fruity that breaks the typical winter scheme. The top notes smell like a vodka cocktail with Red Bull, sparkling with that synthetic cherry drink touch. As it dries down, a classic barber shop note appears without losing the Le Male DNA. In the dry down, the vanilla dominates with a powdery, musky base, soft and charming. At parties, it’s a beast: it projects, lasts, and doesn’t go unnoticed. I agree it’s a great party fragrance, though I also use it for other things because it’s simply excellent.
Ugh, I love it. Since I already have the Antonio Puig one, it lasts about 4 hours, but it smells divinely. Many people think it’s for clubs, but I see it as perfect for winter. The one that is truly for clubs is the Le Male Elixir; that one is extremely sweet.
If I had to define it in one word: attractive. It’s brought me the most compliments of my entire collection. That vanilla is the main note and never fades. I recommend it for dates or formal parties; it’s heavy, nothing informal, but with a youthful, cheeky touch that draws attention. Although longevity is its weak point, the price is reasonable for the quality.
I find this very youthful with a delicious blend of pear, cinnamon, vanilla, and bergamot, much like other clones such as Afnan’s 9 PM and Odyssey Spectra.
I believe the Ultra Male shares the same DNA as the original Nivea Men Invisible Black and White deodorant.
It’s an absolute beast, literally. It evolves into that sensual vanilla with caramel notes that just hook you. It’s the kind of perfume you test on your hand and then stare at the bottle, thinking, ‘Do I get this? Don’t I get this?’ At 60-70 quid, it smells fantastic and is worth every penny. On skin, it lasts a proper long time, 8-10 hours without issue, and on clothes for days. The projection is solid, a minimum of 5-6 hours. It’s a safe bet: women love it and men do too.
Picture an autumn afternoon eating sweets, then a pear or apple gum. You’ve had enough sugar, so you head to your freshly washed car that smells of cinnamon and freshness. That is the Ultra Male: sweets and pear gum melting into rich cinnamon and vanilla. The scent is a 9/10, but the longevity disappointed me a bit; I expected more for the price. Mind you, I bought it second-hand; if it were original, I would have been even more disappointed.
I don’t own it, but I smelled it in a store and was going to buy it for that spectacular aroma. Now I see many complaining that the latest versions last only 4 hours. How is it possible that it went from lasting 10 hours or more to so little? If anyone has more info, please let me know.
An incredible fragrance; the fruity gum scent is exquisite. It’s truly a perfume I never get bored of, nor is it heavy enough to bore you. 10/10.
My favourite fragrance, unfortunately I can’t find it to repurchase. Its scent is unique, masculine yet daringly ambiguous. I love it.
A quite sweet perfume in a good way. Perhaps the most party-ready among designer fragrances. It lasts quite well for an EDT, yet it’s hard not to think its Arabic dupe by Afnan is superior. I’d dare say it wins in almost everything, at least enough to make the slightly synthetic feel compared to the original hardly matter.
Smells nice and garners compliments, but I feel it’s a scent that’s gone slightly out of fashion. Plus, it’s too heavily copied by clones that perform even better than the original, so my advice is to skip this one—I wouldn’t buy it again.
I’d wanted to try this fragrance for some time and can say it seemed very pleasant and distinct from what I have in my collection. It’s the second from JPG I own; to test it, I opted for a 10 ml decant to evaluate its development, longevity, skin behaviour, and compliment level. The experience has been very positive. The notes are well balanced and achieve an enveloping blend of sweetness and freshness. Despite being launched a decade ago, Ultra Male still feels modern and relevant, a clear example of how Jean Paul Gaultier has managed to create a fragrance that withstands the passage of time. In short, a ‘must’ in any collection, especially for those who enjoy scents with personality, projection, and a seductive touch. My final rating is 8.8 / 10.
Dior Homme Parfum at 100% smells absolutely fantastic.
It remains a beautiful scent but has been reformulated. As I reviewed in 2023 after buying a 40 ml bottle, I’ll insist again: don’t let yourselves be fooled. Because projection and longevity with ULTRA MALE are no longer found or comparable to its former distributor. The JPG version isn’t worth it. Better to buy the current ones, those composed by Quentin Bisch regarding LE MALE, because at least they will have longevity and projection.
I can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this gem before; it has become my favourite above all others. I found it because a cousin was wearing the 9 PM and I asked what he was using; it turned out to be nothing more than a dupe of Ultra Male. When I smelled both, although they are very similar in the drydown, the 9 PM doesn’t appeal to me as much. It is true that it is not recommended for extreme heat, but with a single distant spray or letting the mist fall over you, you can enjoy any day. I love that blend of lavender, pear, mint, vanilla, and cinnamon; it gives me calm and helps with my anxiety, even if that sounds odd. This and Paradise Garden are my favourites from JPG and are worth it; now I’m hoping to get the Le Beau Flower edition.
The dried candied fruit drydown is one of the most exquisite I’ve tried; round and sweet without being cloying. I tested the 9 PM and, to be honest, it doesn’t even come close to Ultra Male, despite many trying to convince themselves otherwise.
Spectacular fragrance. I thought a lot about which would be my signature and everyone always recommended this. I picked it up on offer for 200 soles for 75ml. Smells like sparkling pear, I use it for everything except extreme heat. I wore it for ages and it was the first one to get compliments from women and friends. I haven’t tried the 9PM yet but I’m still smitten; it’s my signature and it makes people remember you. Still a good buy if you find an offer; mine ran out and I found one for 300 for 125ml. I’d recommend trying it and buying on offer.
Thank goodness my shop still has batches that haven’t been reformulated; the longevity is madness, it sticks and lasts. Nowadays it’s spectacular, I think it’s the best quality JPG. It feels a bit synthetic, but oh, that juicy pear with vanilla and a spicy touch is incredible. Something so sweet and striking yet so masculine. Perfect perfume, king of the night, my third favourite JPG.
Exquisite. It’s the evolution of the original Le Male. If you want JPG history, this is a must. Then come the others…
Beautiful, queen of the night. Medium longevity but worth it for the price. Still youthful, striking and better than trend perfumes.
In Colombia there are D1 stores with a blue fragrance called Vincent and Rose. It smells the same, over 90%, and costs $8. If you smell it on someone, you won’t know which is which.
As everyone has said, it’s beautiful. The problem is that Arab clones take a lot of the shine away. I tested it against the Odyssey Spectra and at first Ultra Male won on the pear note and quality, but then they were identical. Is the original worth it? If you find it on offer in 125ml, yes. If you want to save money, the clone works well. I compared them and it was a confusing but pleasant experience.
Officially it’s no longer sold. I wonder what the guys at JPG were thinking.
I picked it up on offer for €52 and bought it without a second thought. It’s not a monster but it delivers; youthful, fruity and sweet without being cloying. It’s similar to Le Parfum but more innocent and party-ready. Initially loud, then intimate. Ideal for dinners, clubs or dates, though it shines more at night. I wore it to work today and it fitted perfectly. 7.5/10.
Another gem from JPG. Sweet and masculine, it gives me a suede with vanilla sensation, super addictive. You can smell the Le Male influence but with its own personality. It’s a night scent, though it also works for dates if you don’t overdo the sprays. In my collection, it’s a must-have. Longevity and projection are top. 9/10.
Very sweet and youthful, smells good but nothing special. Lasts quite a while and you can tell, though I don’t use it for everything. The funny thing is, it rarely suits others, which is odd.
