Descripción

Girl of Now Shine by Elie Saab is an oriental floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by Sophie Labbé and Dominique Ropion. Its top notes of pineapple, pistachio, pear and mandarin give way to a heart of bitter almond, orange blossom, jasmine and ylang-ylang, closing with a base of vanilla, patchouli and iris.

  • When I tried this perfume yesterday, I started from the premise that the original Girl of Now seems excessively sweet to me, even though I adore the almond note in perfumery, both sweet and bitter (not in vain, Confetto by Profumum Roma is one of my favourites). Well, this Shine flanker is like taking the original, putting it in a test tube, and adding a splash of tanning oil. It feels even heavier than the first one. That said, it lasted quite a while on my skin, around 7-8 hours, and the sillage during the first two hours was quite overwhelming. Elie Saab is missing the mark for me compared to L’eau Couture (which also carries almond, but that one is delicate).

I won’t say much: at first, it’s very rich and very similar to Girl of Now, but with a certain fruity citrus note that makes it feel fresher and lighter. After an hour, it started to change; I began to perceive the floral touch and the pistachio. By five hours, I couldn’t stand it anymore: it was pure pistachio with a salty touch (the sweetness, the flowers, everything had gone), and personally, I can’t stand nuts when mixed with salt. I ran off to wash it.

It was a blind buy: it’s sweet, smells of coconut and almonds, with good sillage for the first hour (perhaps better in winter than summer). The longevity is noticeable at five hours; after that, it sits close to the skin and perhaps lasts up to ten. I like it but it doesn’t drive me wild; I’ll reserve it for summer. Presentation 8, value for money 7, sillage 6, longevity 7. Would I buy it again? I’d say no now, but I’ll give it another chance in summer.

  • I declare myself in love with this perfume; my skin holds citrus fragrances very well, which I adore, and the pineapple note fixes beautifully on me, warm thanks to the pistachio and almond notes. It lasts a long time and projects very well. Others easily perceive it, but what interests me is that I can feel it myself, and I love it. Would I buy it again? Definitely yes. I like it more than its predecessor. I’m wearing it on spring evenings; it’s a delicious fragrance for my nose.

  • This perfume makes me drool; to me, it smells of almond milk, pineapple, and pistachio, a very rich combination with good sillage and longevity. I was going for the traditional Girl of Now, but since I own Poison Girl, it smelled the same to me (every nose is a world), although this Shine version felt very different from everything in my collection and I enjoy it hugely. It’s a sweet gourmand perfume that I find versatile and timeless.

  • I compared it with its other two siblings and this one seems more citrusy; it also smells sweet but not as intense. Its siblings are pure sweetness. Comparing price, presentation, aroma, and longevity, it’s a good purchase. If you’re not so into sweet scents, this perfume is the perfect combination.

  • What a delight! It smells of almond yet fresh at the same time. It’s exotic, distinct, and exquisite. It has excellent longevity on my skin and a moderate sillage. I feel that both the Shine version and the original take me on a journey to a starry night in Istanbul. They are must-haves if you enjoy almond and pistachio notes.

  • Choosing between this Shine version and the original Blue Petals was tough; the latter is sweeter and more elegant, but I bought Shine because it makes me smile. Perhaps due to the gold of its petals, the name, or the amber hue of the liquid, it evokes sunshine, rays, and happiness. It has a special sweetness that makes me feel healthy, young, and exotic; on my skin, the pineapple stands out hugely, as if preserved in syrup. Then comes the almond: a caramelised pineapple with almond milk, sweet, creamy, warm, comforting, energetic, and youthful. I wear it in autumn, winter, and spring when I want to feel wrapped in a blanket of pineapple syrup, varying the sprays. I love it; it’s the most fruity fragrance in my collection, almost the only one, as I have so many I can’t recall their names now. However, since I prefer oriental, gourmand, leather, and oud scents, I was surprised that this one filled my soul so much.

  • Kharynbranchet

For me, it’s the perfect perfume to transition from summer to autumn. It’s strong and reminiscent of Dior’s Dolce Vita. It’s beautiful, though I don’t think it’s particularly original.

  • Thefragrancelover

What stands out most to me is the almond and pistachio. When it dries down, it’s very similar to the classic Girl of Now, but with a pineapple note that gives it a fresher touch. It’s a delicious gourmand. Despite the pineapple, I see it more for cold autumn and winter days. It has excellent longevity; with just a few sprays, you’re scented all day.

  • Similar to the classic, they share notes that are the soul of the fragrance: almond, pistachio, and pear in the opening. This flanker adds juicy pineapple and ylang-ylang, giving it a slight tropical touch. It has great sillage and medium-to-high longevity.

  • Beautiful! Of course it’s similar to the previous one, but this is prettier, a spell for the nose that you can’t stop smelling; perfect for this cold. The pineapple, pistachio, almonds, and patchouli stand out; a real charm. I bought it straight away and I’ll keep it for New Year’s; I feel it’s worthy of that date.

I got to try GON Shine with a gifted sample, and my opinion is that, although many say it smells like the old GON, for me they are two different worlds. What marked me most was that bitter, natural almond, nothing sweet or artificial, which almost makes it preferable to the original. I sensed the pineapple soft and sweet, without citrus acidity, so I don’t think it’s super summery. The longevity on my skin was moderate, perhaps due to pH, as it lasts longer on others. It’s a beautiful perfume, although in the end I still miss the other flanker.

  • I can’t compare it to the regular version or the other flanker, Forever, as I’ve only tried them briefly and don’t know them well. I wanted something from the line, and after reading reviews, I decided on Shine. It’s an extremely sweet bomb, but I love it; it’s intoxicating. One of the reasons I chose it over the others was the pineapple note, and luckily it stands out on my skin at first. Afterwards, there’s a delicious almond dessert scent. The floral part probably gives it body, but I can’t distinguish the notes separately. I really like it, and if I didn’t have so many perfumes, I’d buy a refill without hesitation. It has moderate-to-notable sillage and 8-9 hours of longevity. Despite being sweet, it doesn’t feel out of place in summer, perhaps due to the pineapple, so I see it as very versatile, suitable for cold periods too due to its sweetness. Scent 8/10 Longevity 8.5/10 Sillage 7.5/10 Value for money 7/10 Versatility 8.5/10 Packaging 9/10 Would I buy again? Yes.

It’s an exquisite elixir of vanilla fruits with almonds. I smell the pineapple at first, then the vanilla almonds, and finally some floral touches. I love it; I have nothing like it in my collection. It’s potent, so you must measure your use. I live on a Caribbean island and it’s always hot; two sprays are more than enough. I’m waiting for winter to see how it evolves. It’s a fragrance that anyone who loves the sweet must try. Update: in winter it’s much better, with improved performance and the notes really stand out.

  • I do like this flanker. It resembles its predecessor due to the sweetness, but Shine is very luminous and cheerful. It makes you want to wear it, generates a good mood, and doesn’t get stuck in the common sweetness of the original Girl; Shine is sweet but more fruity, with an elegant nuance. This one is worth repeating. Excellent choice, good longevity, it doesn’t disappoint.

  • DulceInvierno

I’m tempted to try the classic GON because this one doesn’t suit me. I don’t know if it’s the pineapple or the pistachio, but there’s something that upsets my stomach. It’s winter and it should be showing off, but it isn’t; I’ve given it chances and it still doesn’t convince me. I hope to try its older sister, without the pineapple and with the tonka bean that I adore; perhaps we’ll be a match.

  • EDURNE GRIJALBA

The little sister of the house, the cheeriest and most cheeky version of the original Girl. They share the same DNA, but this is a sweet bomb, super-sweet, like pineapple in syrup. I like it for summer because of the fruity notes, but in the heat it becomes suffocatingly sweet, so I only wear it on the fresh, rainy days of the season. I’ll stick with the original.

  • As I love the Girl of Now flankers, this Shine, as its name indicates, shines in splendour. What a rich scent, fruity, tight, sweet, vanilla… I loved it! Obviously, it has an air of its older sister, but the pineapple increases its freshness and youthfulness. I would not wear it in summer because that sweetness would be too cloying; it suits spring and autumn better, cold rainy days. Good performance on my skin (around 7 hours) and on clothes it lasted until evening. I love the traditional Girl of Now, but I feel this is more mature; this one is carefree, more cheerful. Would I buy it? Yes! I would have both little sisters.

  • Girl of Now Original is never available in stores, always out of stock, and I acquired it because they said its notes were very similar. When I opened it it was love at first sniff because it is very similar to Poison Girl in the dry-down, and I love that perfume, it is one of my favourites. That it had an air of that one was uffff, love and love. It is a delicious gourmand, really addictive.

  • This perfume is a little dessert that spoils you. I did not find it as potent or intrusive; the trail and longevity were moderate and I expected it to be much more. Scent 9/10, Longevity 7/10, Projection 7/10.

  • It was a disappointment for me. It does not smell bad, but it was not the scent I expected; I did not find it gourmand nor did I feel the pineapple. It is too potent: freshly bought I sprayed my wrist to see what it smelled like, it made me dizzy, I washed it twice with soap and the smell would not go away, it lasted until the next day. To repeat, it smells rich, but it is too strong and cloying for my taste.

  • I loved this perfume. It has a slightly strong opening, like a sweet syrup, but after a few minutes the intensity drops and it becomes a sweet scent where the almond really stands out. As it dries and passes hours on the skin it smells like cookies or dessert, it is delicious. It has excellent longevity and does not resemble any other perfume I know.

  • SeekerofHugs

Of the three perfumes in the Girl of Now line, this is my favourite. It was also the first I bought thanks to its pineapple note which stands out so much. The opening is citrusy with pineapple and mandarin, then the nuts, especially the bitter almond which is sweetened by the vanilla, and finishes with floral notes that give it body and elegance. On my skin it does not stay very sweet; it is the perfect balance between sweet and acidic. After a few hours, softer and more vanilla, it smells like an almond dessert. Girl of Now Shine is warm, comforting, youthful, energetic and cheerful. The longevity is 6 hours (excellent for my skin) and the trail is medium to low. I am dying for spring to use it more!

  • DulceInvierno

Dear GON Shine, I came back to you nine months after reviewing you for the first time, and wow, what a good decision that was. This time your performance was phenomenal. A touch of sweetness mixed with pineapple and nuts, you are spectacular. On my clothes you still evoke warmth on these cold days. I was unfair to you and now I give you the place you deserve in my little collection.

  • I bought Girl of Now SHINE three days ago and used it all three days. I want to understand and appreciate it; sometimes I feel it very sweet and rich, other times bitter. What I do recognise is that it lasts quite a while on my skin, around 4 to 5 hours, although my pH is not the best. It is a pleasant scent, but I recommend trying it before buying.

  • Vale Barajas

Total heartbreak. After reading many reviews and thinking about it for ages, I finally got it with tremendous expectations, but it was a failure. The opening is rich, like a fruit cocktail in syrup, but as it dries on my skin it becomes bitter and extremely heavy. The first time I wore it, it sounded identical to Olympea Intense, a scent I hate. I gave it more chances, but I always find that unpleasant bitter dry-down. Definitely not for me.

  • A delight! It is my favourite perfume for that elegant sweetness that has earned me so many compliments; there is nothing quite like it. It starts strong with candied pineapple and pear, giving way to a bitter almond that adds sophistication. It performs incredibly on my skin: projection, trail, and over 10 hours. Just be aware, the trail is potent and not for everyone; if you dislike sweet, penetrating, and dry scents, it may feel heavy to you. Ideal for winter and evening wear, mind your sprays.

  • Smells lovely, I detect pineapple with vanilla and almond, sweet with good projection and longevity. I feel it more for spring, autumn and winter; I wouldn’t wear it in summer. For all ages. I give it an 8/10 👌🏻.

  • It’s very similar to Girl of Now EDP, but its sweet fruity opening with pineapple (very well combined) lifts it, making it more sparkling and less dry than the original. I like this flanker more, though I’m not sure if it’s worth owning both unless it’s your signature. It’s a gourmand suitable for everyone; I also detect neroli and iris in the base. Except in summer, it’s very versatile (if you can’t handle sweetness, wear it in cold weather and at night). Sillage is moderate-to-high and lasts 7/8 hours on my skin. I recommend trying it; if you like sweets, share it blindly. The only negative is it lacks originality, there are many of the same style, though I believe it’s one of the best…

  • Wow, I think I like it even more than traditional Girl of Now 🫣. It feels like too much juicy pineapple with lots of pistachio, like a cake, I love it 😍.

  • Perla Vencis

I’m not a fan of sweetness, but I wanted to own a bottle of Elie Saab, so I chose this. Very sweet and fruity opening; the flowers get lost under so much vanilla and patchouli. For those seeking something spicy, this is the option.

  • In the opening it smells summery, super sweet and fruity; you can tell the pineapple is mixed with nuts, a pleasant combination. But as it dries down, the classic Girl of Now DNA emerges, making it heavy in the heat. It’s a matter of taste, a pity it’s discontinued.

  • I admire those who smell the pineapple or give it a fresh summer touch, hehe. For me it’s identical to the classic: sweet, pistachio-y and autumnal. Zero summer! Full autumn/winter.

  • ConiEtcheverry

I love it; it’s my first Dominique Ropion: feminine, elegant and winter-appropriate. I wouldn’t wear it in summer as it’s quite strong. I detect ylang-ylang, almond and vanilla; I don’t sense the declared fruity opening, but rather something solar reminiscent of sunny autumns. It leans towards gourmand. I’m not a fan of this style, yet it has something special: you won’t find it in pharmacies or shops, it’s hard to try as it’s never displayed. I got lucky trying it on a trip and decided to buy it from a tester due to its moderate price. It has excellent longevity and is worth it.

  • Overdose of sweetness! At first it smells like classic Girl of Now with pineapple separate, but after 15 minutes they blend into a cloyingly fruity scent where the pineapple rounds off. If you like fruity aromas and GON, this is your option.
