The advertising for this perfume transports me back in time, as it was created in my country by a brand that has since closed. Coty, regarded as a genius of perfumery, inspired countless others and left a unique legacy; although his company now produces mass-market fragrances of poor quality, he was originally a pioneer with fine materials and luxurious bottles. La Rose Jacqueminot was a best-seller in the early 20th century. Coty was brilliant and innovative, seeking a superior fixative compared to his contemporaries. Inspired by a real rose, it captured her personality: red, intense, vain, extravagant, intoxicating, and narcotic, far removed from the romantic, soft rose of the time. I detect notes of honey and violet. I may be mistaken, but the rose here reminds me of those in Creed Fleurs de Bulgarie and Agent Provocateur, although the darker, more interesting version was undoubtedly Coty’s. As it is impossible to source, those two make excellent alternatives.
