I gave it a second chance and I must confess, I liked it more this time. While I still prefer L’Occitane’s ‘Eau de Vétyver’, I tried this one on skin and blotter today. The longevity is moderate, but as Drakecito rightly points out, the sillage is poor; after all, it’s a Cologne, designed to scent the body after a bath, though nowadays we use it for convenience if there’s no EDT available. It’s a good option for vetiver lovers: cheerful, spicy, and light. With moderate longevity and little projection, but remember, it is a Cologne.

My first impression wasn’t great, but I plan to give it another chance. Compared to the L’Occitane counterpart, ‘Eau de Vétyver’, it comes across as a bit dull. At first, it seemed plain and unremarkable, but today I will give it a second chance if I can return to the nearest store or branch. The longevity seemed very poor, although the sales assistant applied a generous amount to my wrist. The sillage, understanding that it is a Cologne (the box simply says ‘Les Colognes’), shouldn’t be large, and indeed, it isn’t.

If @Shiseido, it’s an ‘Eau de Cologne’ both in name and concentration. I’ve tried the L’Occitane one, and they follow the same line, but with Goutal, the vetiver smells more natural and realistic (it is, of course, more expensive). The performance is similar, though one must bear in mind that the L’Occitane version has already been reformulated and likely diluted; it was previously called just ‘Vetiver’. The issue with this Goutal one is that, although it lasts quite a while (over 6 hours), the trail is very poor and you have to get close to smell it; moreover, the scent feels short and is quite common. Only for lovers of vetiver in its freshest form and for summer use.

A very refined vetiver by A. Goutal. A very citrusy and sparkling opening that quickly blends with the vetiver and a salty note giving it a marine effect. There is also a hint of very soft floral notes that round off the fragrance. It is much fresher than the discontinued EDT version (which was darker) and more recommended for summer, although I sometimes wear it in winter. The vetiver note is frankly well-executed, very natural, and of tremendous quality; among the best on the current market without resorting to vintage formulas. The longevity is very good, especially for a Cologne (over 5 hours), and the trail is skin-hugging. An option that fresh vetiver lovers shouldn’t miss. Recommended!
