Pure Poison by Dior

PURE POISON, YOUR ORANGE BLOSSOM. IT EVOKED WALKING THE STREETS OF SEVILLE. Yes, just like the title, it was there, at Perfumerías Aromas in Seville, Nervión Plaza, where I met you back in 2010, late February. I brought you home in 30ml along with the Dior Addict in 100ml. My week in the capital city was one of the best trips; at the hotel my father would go down for breakfast while I got ready to go out and sightsee. That city has an enchantment and an indescribable smell, pure orange blossom and orange trees in full bloom. It wasn’t just walking anymore; it was the constant scent of orange blossom… When I arrived in Madrid months later, in April with the white apple, when I sprayed you for the end of the year, my father came into the bathroom and asked what I was wearing, saying it smelled like Seville. I laughed and told him it was the perfume you bought for us there. I kept getting ready and during the New Year’s Eve dinner he would come over to say: ‘let me smell, girl, it’s as if we were in Seville, such a pure, clean orange blossom’. That night I made a scene. The 2010 version was brutal: incredible projection and sillage, lasting a fixed 10 hours with you, even though there were beasts like the Dior Addict or the Hypnotic Poison of those years… but Pure Poison was unique, sexy, neat, elegant and clean. Years later, after using up the 30ml in 2017, I bought another 30ml and it went well. In 2018, the 100ml in the Canaries, a wonderful deal. I bought it again in 2021 and here is the issue: PERFORMANCE DROP. IN PROJECTION, IN SILLAGE… IT SMELLS THE SAME, yes, you can’t deny that, but it lasts half as long as before, let me tell you with this?? With this, don’t expect more than 5 hours, projecting well for the first 2. Think about it, I no longer spend 137 euros on this perfume with its performance, I’m sorry, personally it’s not worth it… DIOR, FOR LUCK’S SAKE, YOU DID IT AGAIN, ANOTHER MASTERPIECE DILUTED… WHAT A PITY

I received it yesterday, an online blind buy. I was afraid of what I might get, but sometimes you have to take a risk to win and I gambled on it. Upon smelling it, my first thought was of a white, luminous perfume; the jasmine makes it so, very creamy and clean, but not bar-soapy, rather of care and beauty. Then, a few seconds later, I notice a very sweet base, almost cloying (I’m a citrus perfume person, to be fair). After a while, that heavy sweetness fades as it dries down, leaving a lovely, delicate and delicious scent on the skin, truly beautiful. Update: I don’t know what’s happening with this perfume; I have a love/hate relationship with it. In the end, it wore off on me too quickly to the point where I sold it. The cloying sweet phase won me over. By the way, is it possible that Mercadona’s Chapter White Flower cologne is inspired by this? I smelled it today and it reminds me of it without me knowing anything about it. Pity it happens to me: I like it but it overwhelms me.

I confess I bought this perfume blindly (like 90% of my collection) and had an unpleasant surprise. At first, I didn’t like it at all; it seemed excessively citrusy and the gardenia was too noticeable; to my nose, the gardenia ‘cheapens’ perfumes. However, now that it is hot in my city and I used it at 22 degrees, I feared it would evaporate quickly. But after keeping it in a drawer for almost a year, after about 5 hours it is still there. It is a scent I now appreciate more and am grateful I didn’t sell it (like I did with the poor Poison, which I regretted). It is a PERFECT floral for warm climates; it is not elegant, but neither is it totally casual; I think it is totally suitable for any occasion: PERFECT AND VERSATILE for spring-summer. ULTRA FEMININE. It doesn’t smell soapy to me, since the gardenia and jasmine create a unique floral. I don’t love Pure Poison, but I do like it and I am making peace with it.

It is a super balanced white floral. It begins with a citrus touch, mainly bergamot, which fades quickly to reveal those creamy, clean flowers; if you like jasmine and gardenia, those are the notes that stand out most. It’s not in fashion these days (everyone uses neroli or sweet scents), but it doesn’t feel old-fashioned. It’s nearly 20 years old and wears like a white shirt: never goes out of style. I find it sensual, but on the side of being neat and feminine, not daring. It’s not fresh, more creamy and dense, very versatile, though I think it suits women over 25 better. When it dries down, it smells like a lovely musk. The projection is moderate and lasts about 4 or 5 hours on my skin. It’s not unique, but among white florals, it is one of the best I’ve tried.

I first smelled it at eight years old; I used to steal it from my aunt just to open the cap and enjoy that hypnotic scent. Years later, at university, my mum gave it to me and it became my diary. I now use it on special occasions and it transports me back to those memories. It smells of elegance, power, and femininity, of a determined woman who knows what she wants. It makes me feel strong, secure, and sensual. I have a sensitive nose and curiously, I haven’t smelled it on many people, which I love. I think it’s for mature women, but I don’t mind: I feel like superwoman. Hopefully, it never becomes a social media hype; it’s a hidden gem I want to keep for myself.

I adore this perfume because I feel it suits me very well: my name is Jasmine and as soon as I put it on, what stands out most is that flower, haha. After a while the jasmine is barely noticeable and it adopts a scent of clean, light flowers. Its longevity is excellent and its trail is VERY STRONG, be careful with that; the first time I used it I put a little too much while staying at home and about 6 hours later the trail was still intact to the point that it gave me nausea. It is very strong, so do not overdo the amount when applying it. I feel it suits both young and adult women very well, and although it fits any occasion, it looks better during the day.

This perfume made me reconsider whether I truly disliked florals. I finished a bottle in months and had to restrain myself from using it daily. How was it possible to be perfect for everything: work, study, outings, dates? And the compliments… I always thought sweet scents were more attractive, but with this one, I saw the power and sensuality of florals. After using Pure Poison, I tried others of the same type and had wonderful experiences. Conclusion: you must try fragrances from different families to see how they behave on the skin. For me, it’s a resounding yes, an excellent fragrance. I would repeat it without a doubt.

Pure Poison is a dream. It’s like slapping a floral balm onto your skin after a shower. Clean, creamy, delicate, feminine, velvety, with that sweet floral touch yet fresh and polished. I find it impressive, super sexy and beautiful. It has become one of my favourites. It’s a second-skin effect. Its longevity and sillage aren’t the best; it’s quite intimate, but for me, it’s worth it 100%. In summer, the body craves something like this. It’s unique. My boyfriend loves it too. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 6/10

I bought this almost blindly and it has completely won me over. One day in a perfumery, I put on Pure Poison at random, without any real intention. When I left, among the five scents on my arm, I thought: ‘Ugh, that smells amazing, could it be this one?’. A few months later, while reading reviews, I decided to get it to check it out for myself. Today I tried it and I was blown away: it’s a wonder, a creamy, clean, and elegant powerhouse. You can tell the quality; it’s straight into my favourites 🥳😍

For spring and summer, lovely but it doesn’t last long. It’s special; it reminds me of my final school years and the start of university. I bought it at a pharmacy for Christmas with the little red box; I hated it because it overwhelmed my senses. It brings back memories of when I was young and went shopping with my mum. I bought a small bottle again for the memory; it makes me happy to smell it and carry those years with me, almost 20. How lovely! A gem I’ll use a lot in the summer.

As always with Dior and their reformulations that keep the stars alive. Pure Poison remains beautiful, feminine, elegant, and subtle, but when it first came out it was creamier and less citrusy, an intense and luminous bouquet of white flowers for spring and summer. Now, after buying a decant, it smells like orange blossom and citrus soap, like a room scent but with better longevity. It’s a lovely perfume, only it lacks the soul of that cream of white flowers that characterised it.

It is one of those perfumes that I should like more because of the good reviews, but you know it will never be your favourite. It smells clean and refined, safe, but it reminds me of the typical perfect mother who smells great, has a good job, and an ideal home. It also brings to mind the perfect primary school teacher (the one everyone had) that you wanted to emulate at all costs. A bit boring, although you know she won’t fail and won’t annoy anyone.

@marpe77 I met Acqua di Parma because in the 80s it was the cheap substitute for Don Algodón, and neither of them reminds me of Pure Poison, which proves that olfactory memory is very capricious. If someone likes Pure Poison and can’t or doesn’t want to pay the Dior price, I’d suggest trying Primavera de Aire de Seville. Cheers!

I love it: it’s neat, sensual, feminine, and elegant. It starts with a citrus note and then becomes a super chic white floral, ideal for a lady in a white suit at a special event. It’s the signature perfume of a confident, refined, and intellectual woman. Yes, I would buy it again; it simply must be in my collection.

I said it was a bouquet of white flowers, which I adore, but upon trying it, it seemed like an old-fashioned children’s cologne and too citrusy. It’s delicate but childish. I paid too much for a cheap, old-school pharmacy scent. I won’t be buying it again.
