The first time you smell it without knowing anything about it, it’s interesting, as was my case. I knew I was expecting something super-creamy like Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. The opening is citrusy, with musk and bergamot, very pleasant, but it left me craving that vanilla tonka bean I was hoping for. As it develops, the musk recedes and the tonka bean rises, drying out into a blend of bergamot and tonka. Not as creamy as I wanted, but it didn’t put me off. I’d prefer to stick with Allure because it truly smells of tonka. It’s not so complex, easy to wear, ideal for the office, enjoyable and non-intrusive.

I’m a Le Labo devotee, yet I’m not convinced to splash out on everything. I’m hunting for scent, longevity and projection—that elusive click that sometimes doesn’t happen, even when the fragrance smells lovely. However, with Santal 33, Another 13, The Noir, Tonka and Oud, I’ve found the three golden rules to invest in. I adore them and just picked up Tonka this Christmas. It’s a musk with a citrus twist, a hint of bergamot and something creamy. The notes work perfectly without any one dominating. It’s a luxury find; I’d recommend it 100%.
