Descripción

Dior Hypnotic Poison Eau de Parfum, created by François Demachy in 2014, is a jewel of the oriental vanilla olfactive family designed for women. Its olfactive pyramid unfolds with an opening of licorice and almond, introducing a sweet and spicy character. The heart reveals the elegance of sambac jasmine and orange blossom, imparting a radiant and exotic florality. The base closes the composition with an enveloping combination of vanilla and tonka bean, granting a silky and woody persistence.

  • I don’t rate perfumes by age, it seems to me a narrow-minded and disrespectful thing; I judge them by longevity, trail, and quality. It’s a very, very long-lasting and delicious perfume, certainly for the night and for autumn/winter.

  • It’s a rich perfume (for me it tastes more gourmand than oriental) and it’s among my favourites. The bottle is beautiful but the perfume doesn’t do it justice (nor to the Poison line). I expected something more mysterious, played up… it reminds me a lot of Paco Rabanne’s Black XS. It’s very sweet, more fruity than floral or spiced. It’s strong, has a lot of body, leaves a good trail and tremendous longevity (I spray once and I smell it for hours). It adapts very well to men’s skin (I repeat, it reminds me a lot of PR’s Black XS). In summary… it’s a good perfume, rich (one of my favourites for going out at night). But it’s more of the same. I don’t find much originality or mystery in the notes.

This perfume is worth what you pay. It’s long-lasting and exquisite. I chose the EDP because the EDT, after trying it many times, didn’t last anything and always evaporated from my skin after a few hours. I tested this EDP in autumn for several days and all tests gave more than 12 hours, so I bought it immediately. It’s not for everyday use because it can get tiring, especially due to the abundance of vanilla and almond, which leave incredibly strong traces. I clearly note the orange blossom at the start, but it goes away quickly to give way to the main notes. I don’t think it’s special for an elegant outing, rather for a Sunday, outdoors, or for those days you crave sweets and chocolates. Personally I don’t choose too sweet perfumes for couple dates or formal events. In those cases, this wouldn’t be the choice.

  • Finally I tried Hypnotic Poison Eau Parfum. In my opinion, it’s similar to the classic but without the coconut note, which I like. It’s very rich, sweet, and spiced. Freshly applied it’s strong, but afterwards the trail becomes soft leaving the licorice on the skin. I would have liked it to maintain that initial intensity for longer; I expected more potency being the most concentrated version. Trail of 6 and skin longevity of 8. Sincere, I don’t recommend it; its poor trail and high price make it not worth it.

Every time I passed the perfumery I asked if they had the tester and it was never there. I was dying of curiosity, I wanted to have it, but as it’s expensive in my country, I had to try it first. So many good reviews… what a disappointment when I finally tried it and I didn’t like it at all. The worst part is that I couldn’t get it off my skin even with soap. On paper it seemed okay, sweet vanilla and an undefined wood. But on my skin it was something burnt, smoky, and in the end it gave me a headache. It’s a pity we weren’t a good match; I’m not saying it’s a bad perfume, but it doesn’t suit me, my skin decomposes it terribly.

  • It’s a nocturnal perfume, hot, ideal for the cold. I’m wearing it now and it’s divine. It highlights sensuality, style, and gives confidence. I always thought Demachy’s forte was fresh fragrances, but this time he did a worthy job. It has the DNA of the original EDT, but with a more natural sensuality; no synthetic vanilla, but toasted almond liqueur and a sublime licorice, of wet root. It’s not groundbreaking, it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s adorned with high-quality essences to give warmth and a sexy touch. I see it as unisex. It smells of licorice with strong, sweet liqueur that masculinises it. It’s for those who want to seduce with a fairytale air, with princes, princesses, fairies, witches… and with her, good and love will triumph. Good fragrance from Dior-Demachy, smells of natural essences and grants distinction. Besides, it’s for any age.

  • FranSeatJones.

Obviously it has the DNA of its younger EDT sister, but… what an intoxicating, delicate, elegant, and super sexy scent. I’m a guy and I enjoy it, so I see it as unisex. Although I’m a bit tired of vanilla perfumes, this is the exception. It smells of almond (a little bitter) very well balanced. The only drawback is that it might be a bit too sweet (but it’s not bad, it’s just my thing). The trail is brutal for the first two or three hours and the longevity lasts 8, 10 hours, and on clothes… days and days. It will be forever (hopefully they don’t discontinue it), it’s one of my favourites.

  • A black dress with violet details and a sky-blue back studded with rubies. It’s like cyanide liqueur, a mortal poison. If I had to define it, it’s lava kissing the ice; a masterpiece that, like fine wine, reached its perfect point without flaws. You don’t wear it, it wears you. I saw someone wear it at university and it marked my mind. Although many see it as generic, for me it’s unique: a sublime vanilla, with character and as hard as steel thanks to the licorice and tonka bean.

  • pedjalazaro

I absolutely love it. It begins bitter like licorice, wrapped in luxurious vanilla with jasmine and orange blossom in the middle, finishing with a beautiful base of vanilla and tonka. It’s an intense, dark, super sexy oriental gourmand-floral. Absolutely feminine. The longevity is brutal. Ideal for autumn, winter, and going out at night. The trail is heavy.

  • The licorice makes this fragrance very dry; the EDT with its fruity notes isn’t as harsh on the nose. That said, I love it a lot because it’s a dark, penetrating, mysterious and nocturnal scent. I adore it; it feels like a spell. It’s not for everyone; perhaps the EDT is more approachable. The longevity is very good and the projection, though good initially, becomes subtle and intimate after an hour. The notes I detect most are the licorice and tonka wrapped in vanilla; it also seems to have anise, though I don’t see it as a declared note.

  • Magical, dark and sexy. Very good longevity on the skin; it gets ingrained even after washing.

  • I tested it yesterday on a hanger in my room and it’s still perfumed with that scent. To me, it smells of vanilla (not cloying or artificial) with spices. It’s quite potent.

  • Good afternoon; I’m new and wanted to comment on this perfume. I have the EDT and I’m not sure what note gives it that strong, spiced smell; it reminds me of Opium in that regard, but even more like smoke, which I attribute to the sandalwood. Yes, it smells more like frankincense stick to me, whereas the EDT version settles into a vanilla gourmand dry down, perhaps because I’ve had it for six years. How do I best preserve perfumes? Apart from a cool, light-free spot, would keeping it in the fridge be a mistake? Many thanks in advance.

  • A rich, sweet, gourmand and vanilla scent. It’s my favourite despite having others I like better; this is like my signature. It’s a 10/10 perfume delight.

  • Racheling—I feel the same: sandalwood, incense, licorice… for me, the notes are missing. It’s dark, sensual, powerful and special, lasting longer than the current EDT. Perfumes are best in their box, in the wardrobe, and if possible, never opened. Above all, keep them away from humidity and never in the fridge. Best regards to everyone.

  • A mysterious perfume disguised as sweetness that is anything but innocent. It has an overwhelming strength at first, reminiscent of an almond liqueur with black licorice. The heart features jasmine on my skin, finishing with a vanilla and exotic base thanks to the tonka bean. I believe it contains secret balsamic essences, like a slightly poisonous medicinal potion with a pheromone touch. It’s my favourite Poison. I first heard it in my grandmother’s room; it radiated pure, dark magic. Don’t buy it without testing it on your skin, as every pH alters it and it can be very dense for summer. It appeals to men and exerts a fascinating attraction. It would be ideal for a cruel but fascinating Snow Queen.

  • Extremely sweet yet subtle and caressing, warm and mysterious. For the first twenty minutes, it smells intensely of almond, vanilla and licorice with a spicy top note, probably cinnamon or tonka. Then the floral background emerges subtly, with a smoky undertone in the base, perhaps incense. It remains linear; it’s a very lovely scent. Moderate trail and 7–8 hours longevity. Perfect for winter nights, discreet and unsurprising, ideal for informal evenings. Sometimes I think something sexy is hidden among all that spiced vanilla for your partner. Scent 7/10, longevity 7.5/10, trail 7.5/10, value for money 7/10, packaging 9/10. Would I buy again? No, I didn’t.

  • I bought it based on reviews and the longevity is incredible, including the trail. If you enjoy gourmand scents, this is a top choice. My mum wore it and it got so ingrained in her jumper it lingered even after washing. It smells delicious, but it gives me a migraine—I think it’s the licorice; the vanilla and almond blend is superb. My mum received it as a gift with the condition that she doesn’t wear it near me, hehe.

  • I bought it blind and fell in love at first sniff. It opens strong with almonds, soft licorice and vanilla, then transitions into florals with those subtle nuances. Perfect for night or winter, or the freshest summer evenings; it’s dark, special and utterly unique—I haven’t heard it on anyone else. Beware with the sprays: a few are enough to make it wearable and beautiful.

  • I bought it due to its good reviews. The truth is, the almond scent doesn’t appeal to me at all, but then it leaves an exquisite vanilla scent. People have asked me what perfume it is many times, and my partner loves it!

  • HP EDP is a very potent feminine fragrance that lasts forever, suitable for autumn and winter nights. It opens very sweetly, with licorice and almond notes, and slowly moves into more oriental territory, with vanilla and tonka bean taking the lead. I’ve never tried the EDT on skin (only on blotting paper), but both HP versions smell different on paper: this one is less sweet and more spiced, whereas the EDT has a strong vanilla and almond scent. Compared to the HP Sensuelle I’ve tried several times, this EDP is much sweeter and spicier, less floral. Although it could have been a fragrance I liked, tonka bean doesn’t work well with my chemistry most of the time, and this was no exception. However, I’m sure it can work wonders for another person. Pleasant: 4/10 Interesting: 6/10 Versatile: 4/10 Original: 5/10

  • Tinaperfumada

HP is a charming perfume, that almond and vanilla scent… absolutely delicious, I love it 😍 This is my second bottle of HP! Longevity: 8 hours, projection is excellent! Ideal for winter nights out!! I love it!!

  • This perfume must not be missing from my vanity. Feminine, sexy, sweet, feline, overwhelming. It’s madness!! It doesn’t matter who wears it; it awakens my senses. On my skin, it lasts 7-9 hours with a 3-hour sillage, but if someone is close, they perceive and feel it as delicious. It receives many compliments from men and women. On clothes, it lasts until washed; it’s very crazy how this perfume behaves. I’ve even read it contains pheromones (could be urban legend, but I wouldn’t rule it out). I perceive creamy almond, dark vanilla; it’s fruity and sweet without being overwhelming, exuding a personality hard to imitate. It is truly glamorous. Recommended? Always!!! ❤️❤️❤️ PS: In the reformulations, it loses that fixation it had before. For what you pay for designer perfumes, they should last hours, but the new ones leave much to be desired. What a pity, as it’s an amazing perfume.

  • I simply adore this fragrance; it just smells like an elegant, poised woman. Its vanilla and almond notes are incredibly rich! I simply love this fragrance.

  • Sobriquet, slightly mysterious; its seriousness makes it distant. It lacks the warmth and intensity of the original version. The current one lacks charm, feeling somewhat bitter and less warm than the EDP I knew a few years ago. It has also lost its femininity; by the dry-down, pure vanilla is perceived, a simple evolution that tells us nothing of the majesty we associate with this fragrance. I still maintain that the best hypnosis came from Sensuelle.

  • LorenaLorelay

I was gifted this perfume last year, and it was a great disappointment. The bottle is from 2020 with the new reformulation, and although I sprayed half a bottle, it barely smells of anything. The previous one was a marvel of sweet licorice, almonds, and vanilla, but they’ve ruined this one too. All the Poisons have been reformulated for the worse, yet they still cost the same. I suppose the reviews praising the huge sillage and intense aroma refer to bottles pre-2019.

  • verdepensativo

Despite the reformulations, this remains a GREAT PERFUME with a vintage air. It’s an olfactory gourmand, less edible than today’s gummy candies. I remember when it launched; it was madness and a revolution in perfumery, a daring vanilla and almond dessert. Now it’s less gourmand, darker, denser, less playful; the vanilla and nut turn bitter. Sometimes I sense a vanilla liqueur with incense. I acquired it through a swap; it’s elegant, but frankly, I couldn’t handle it. It left a trail everywhere; my scent was penetrating, impossible to go unnoticed. I believe Dior had the misfortune of poorly reformulating their stars. This perfume is a star, a diva, yet bitter and somewhat gloomy for today’s times. I insist, with much respect, it’s a great perfume, but I feel it has ceased to be gourmand—it’s now alcoholic nuts.

  • I LOVE, I ADORE this perfume… but unfortunately, it’s getting harder to find. Instead, only the ultra-reformulated EDT appears, which I don’t dislike, but it’s not the same. Moreover, the price keeps rising; it’s no longer affordable for this treasure. So, to avoid spending what little I have left, I bought a clone that smells exactly the same but is softer (lasts and projects less), yet it fulfils its role perfectly.

  • Not for me; it smells like death, perhaps old age. I can’t pinpoint the exact note, but it definitely gives me that feeling. With Poison Hypnotic Toilette, however, there’s no issue—I even like it and might buy it. But this perfume smells distinctly different, and unfortunately, worse.

  • I love this perfume. I discovered it recently, so I know nothing about reformulations or vintage versions. On my skin, its opening is very almondised and somewhat bitter, reminding me of bitter liqueurs like Disaronno, but that note fades quickly. A few minutes later, vanilla and tonka bean take centre stage, which I notice all day. The jasmine and orange blossom notes are subtle, more like a pleasant mix of white flowers. It’s a balsamic, warm, sweet, and intoxicating scent, without being cloying or overwhelming. I think it doesn’t have much projection or sillage; it’s more for personal enjoyment or close distances. On my skin, it lasts 8-9 hours, longer on clothes; I noticed it while doing laundry several days later. The only thing that puts me off is the price: in Spain, the 100ml bottle goes over €100 (I’ve seen up to €139 at Douglas). Perhaps for some, investing in a niche with vanilla and tonka bean is worth it; there are plenty of alternatives. Nevertheless, I’m very happy. I’m not sure if I’ll buy it again when I finish or invest in something new. P.S.: That bit about smelling like ‘dead people’… it left me bewildered. Perhaps because I’ve never smelled one and I imagine it’s more like putrefaction than anything else.

  • Mabbemusica

This perfume smells old, like talc, like a very elderly lady. The Poison Eau de Toilette is simply one of the richest perfumes I’ve ever tried, but the Poison de Parfum is simply horrible for me.

  • Muequita_2210

I’m a man and I wear it. My nose perceives the almond: dry and bitter. Very rich to my taste; I like nuts and this almond is exquisite. Mixed with the licorice, wow!, a bomb. I received many compliments and it projects much more if you let it sweat. I put it on at 4 pm and it was still detectable at midnight. To me, it’s unisex, but not everyone can wear it, whether man or woman; you need personality and must carry the fragrance, not the other way round. Would I recommend it? Yes. Longevity? Excellent and it projects very well.

  • Belle_intense

Unlike its EDT sister, this didn’t work for me. The scent is too dry and harsh; the licorice note makes it very bitter and dominates everything, making it even less feminine. I bought it blind and it was a mistake. I recommend testing before buying. Sillage and longevity are quite potent.

  • mcandela_

This was my first imported perfume. When I went to the perfumerie, it was the only one that impacted me, and after weeks I bought it. It’s iconic, you can’t miss it, elegant, mysterious, for night, and with a lot of presence (too much, really; you need to know how to wear it). If you want to go unnoticed, this isn’t it. The longevity and sillage are beastly; I’d dare say it has the greatest sillage in my collection. It beats L’Interdit by Givenchy. A masterpiece of perfumery.

  • I tested it years ago in a sample and later was gifted a dupe that smells similar. I detect a dense, liquorish vanilla with a strong licorice note and a hint of almond. It’s not one of my favourites, mind you, because it’s invasive and in enclosed spaces you have to moderate the sprays; it becomes overwhelming.

  • Chocolate con licor

Similar to the EDT but smells much stronger. If the EDT already seemed slightly heavy to me, this is very heavy. The vanilla smells the same as in the EDT, but here licorice and tonka bean predominate, which is a plus as I don’t like intense vanilla. It lasts for many hours; even after washing my arm twice, it was still there, until it gave me a slight headache.

  • LosPerfumesDeJavi

To me, it’s an improved version of the classic EDT: more complex, with better longevity and sillage than the reformulated one. It’s as dark as its bottle; an almondised licorice and vanilla scent, sweetened with tonka bean, dominates this intoxicating and mysterious aroma. It makes me think of dark, gloomy fantasy forests, with a light at the end where the Hansel and Gretel witch’s house stands, made of sweets to lure children. That madness comes through. The blood-red, almost black bottle shines like a hypnotic poison. The sillage is wide for the first hour, then drops to skin-level and fades after four hours, even when applied generously (2020 batch). I wear it at family gatherings because it conveys warmth. Totally winter-appropriate, for afternoons and evenings. Sometimes, just looking at the bottle is enough to know the season and the occasion.

  • Casablanca77

Yes, I sold it and bought it back again, just like I did with Addict. These whims happen with Dior: I don’t even remember owning some of the others. Hypnotic Poison EDP smells like burnt almond gum; it’s very particular and nothing like the EDT. The best part is that it’s neither gourmand nor overly floral; it’s balanced and nocturnal. The sensation of warming up on the skin over time is luxurious. It’s sweet with vanilla; I hope it stays and doesn’t become repulsive to me (though with this weather, I doubt it). It smells like a good witch with dark intentions.

  • juliaguilera

I’ll be testing this on skin; with the EDT on blotting paper, I barely noticed it. At first, it’s bitter, but then I detect a whisper of woody vanilla that makes me want to know more. I’ll spray it in a few days and update the notes. For now, given how faint it is, I’d give it 8/10.
