Philosykos Eau de Parfum by Diptyque

Nailed it spot on: fig leaf, sweet fruit, and woody trunk base. It’s enchanting and unisex. The only thing holding it back is that I would have loved a creamier touch.

If you’re looking to smell like the tree itself, this is a perfect recreation: trunk, leaves, and fruit. It’s very green; I ordered a decant expecting the fruit’s sweetness, but it’s turned out lovely and I wouldn’t wear it.

The best I’ve tried for recreating fig in its entirety: from the herbal notes to the sweet and fresh fruitiness. A very pleasant experience. It’s for personal delight due to its peculiarity and low projection; the longevity is far superior to the EDT.

I bought a sample and tried it today. It smells overwhelmingly of plant, achieved at 100%! My boyfriend says: ‘It smells like a plant. It’s a pleasant and characteristic scent, but so much so that I associate it with a plant rather than a person’. I give it a 7.8. I like how it smells, but I won’t rate it higher for that psychological reason. I still don’t know if I’ll add it to my collection; I need to keep testing the sample to decide. The scent was intense but softened quickly (though it still smells like a plant, haha).

I’ve loved Philosykos since I first smelled it years ago, but I’ve also hated it (well, ‘hated’ is strong; I was more annoyed). I had it, stopped buying it, and returned out of whim and love for figs. Now I remember my anger at the longevity. How can an EDP not last even three hours at the price of the 75ml bottle?

I’d been searching for a scent to capture the rounded, perfect smell of a fig tree—that summer fragrance, the tranquility, afternoons spent reading, and just life unfolding. Something that takes you back to childhood and the countryside. I’m not sure I’ve found it in this Philosykos, but it is a good fig perfume. You spray it and a supreme fig tree springs to mind, realistic to the point of being inconceivable. Green, with a sweet freshness, evoking shade, heat, and summer. Clean. It’s a creamy fig with an initial white and green impression that evolves into brown, a soft wood that doesn’t abandon its greenery. The overall impression is cleanliness, warmth, and creamy transparency. Very natural. But… it costs a fortune and doesn’t last. You can’t pay that price just to smell yourself. A truly great pity, and it needs to be said out loud.

Philosykos is a super-linear, transparent unisex, perfect for spring and summer as an all-rounder because it doesn’t project much. More than a fig, it’s a hymn to lactones: milky, coconutty, peachy, and apricot-like. If I describe it less chemically, it smells like unripe peach: green fruit, not very sweet, creamy, astringent, and slightly woody, with a wax pencil texture. Being of good quality, it lasts about 8 hours, although the trail is timid. It doesn’t kill, it’s extremely comfortable, useful, and very special among fig perfumes which tend to be sweet. My favourite way to wear it is layering with Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermès, because the astringency of UJeM mixes exquisitely with the creaminess of Philosykos. I love figs but this isn’t for me. It smells of fig tree with grass and earth; the coconut isn’t that present. I expected something fruitier and sweeter, but it focuses on the tree. It opens green and fresh, with crushed leaves and juniper, almost morning dew. As it dries, it softens into a woody and milky mist. Low sillage, medium longevity (6h). I wouldn’t buy it, but the unique olfactory experience is worth it.

It simply smells of fig, just like a fig. Green, astringent and intense scent, masculine. As an experience it’s incredible, but as a perfume it’s not for me: too intense and unpleasant to walk around smelling like a fig.

Creamy fig! As is Diptyque custom, it creates a realistic artistic expression. It smells like when you cut a fig and that white milk comes out, which you rub on your fingertips, with infinite resemblance. As it dries, that creaminess fades and wood enters, an exceptional combination. I don’t perceive green fig, leaves or coconut; that milky part is the beauty, not the fleshy smell of a ripe fig. It evokes a walk through a fig field on a fresh afternoon. Longevity isn’t the best, but with 8-10 sprays it lasts and delights. There’s nothing like this nature in the market.

A conceptual work of art pursuing extreme realism. Green at first, it becomes woody over time. In the dry down, the fig appears. Despite being green, it doesn’t smell fresh due to the astringent character of the leaf, which is dry and irritating. It’s a very summery scent, extraordinarily well reflected. Provocative: the first seconds suggest a box of peaches, then the fig dominates. A great perfume. Its flaw: scarce longevity, no more than two hours; by afternoon there’s no trace on my skin.

The fig in this perfume is the best I’ve ever smelled: super natural and transports you straight to summer afternoons under a fig tree. It’s sweet but not cloying, very wearable. Just for lovers of the note, as it captures the scent of leaf, fruit, and wood in every phase: opening, heart, and base.

A charming proposal from Diptyque. I tried the EDT and was struck by the realism of the opening: a very green fig leaf, nothing synthetic, which hits the nose instantly. Gradually it sweetens, gaining a precious and delicate fig-coco scent. I loved it, except for the low performance and weak projection. Incredible if you don’t mind using it for intimacy; if you want to turn heads, it’s not for you.

For lovers (and I’m one) of the vegetal fig scent: leaves, wood, and fruit. It’s ethereal, fresh, delightfully fruity, with subtle sweet nuances. It doesn’t smell synthetic and has a superb botanical greenness. It smells of Mediterranean nature, like freshly picked figs in a basket beneath an ancient fig tree overflowing with leaves and hard wood effluvia. It’s the fig fragrance I like most: fresh, leaning towards hot atmospheres but goes great with sporty, comfortable clothes. I heard it’s weak in performance, but on my skin it lasts all day with a gentle trail. I spent hours arguing with a saleswoman who claimed fig doesn’t smell; I say it does—the ripe fruit has a creamy, sweet aroma that this perfume captures very well. A rich perfume, with luminous and special airs. Fig lovers must not miss this. Happy New Year!
