Philosykos Eau de Parfum by Diptyque

I’d been searching for a blend that captures the round and perfect scent of the fig tree, the fragrance of summer, tranquility, afternoons spent reading, and what happens simply by being there. Something that catapults you back to childhood and the village. I’m not sure I’ve found it in this Philosykos, but it is a good fig perfume. You spray it and a supreme fig tree comes to mind, realistic to the point of inconceivability. Green, fresh and sweet, with a sensation of shade, heat and summer. Cleanliness. It’s a creamy fig tree with a white and green impression. Then it evolves into brown, a soft wood that doesn’t abandon the greenery. The overall impression is cleanliness, warmth and creamy transparency. Very natural. But… it costs a fortune and doesn’t last anything. You can’t pay that price just to smell it yourself. It’s a very great pity and it has to be said loud and clear.

For lovers (and I’m one) of the vegetal fig scent: leaves, wood, and fruit. It’s ethereal, fresh, delightfully fruity, with subtle sweet nuances. It doesn’t smell synthetic and has a superb botanical greenness. It smells of Mediterranean nature, like freshly picked figs in a basket beneath an ancient fig tree overflowing with leaves and hard wood effluvia. It’s the fig fragrance I like most: fresh, leaning towards hot atmospheres but goes great with sporty, comfortable clothes. I heard it’s weak in performance, but on my skin it lasts all day with a gentle trail. I spent hours arguing with a saleswoman who claimed fig doesn’t smell; I say it does—the ripe fruit has a creamy, sweet aroma that this perfume captures very well. Philosykos is a super-linear, transparent unisex, perfect for spring and summer as an all-rounder because it doesn’t project much. More than a fig, it’s a hymn to lactones: milky, coconutty, peachy, and apricot-like. If I describe it less chemically, it smells like unripe peach: green fruit, not very sweet, creamy, astringent, and slightly woody, with a wax pencil texture. Being of good quality, it lasts about 8 hours, although the trail is timid. It doesn’t kill, it’s extremely comfortable, useful, and very special among fig perfumes which tend to be sweet. My favourite way to wear it is layering with Un Jardin en Méditerranée by Hermès, because the astringency of UJeM mixes exquisitely with the creaminess of Philosykos. A green and pure masterpiece. The EDP is the best fig perfume I’ve tried. It comes out green and fresh, juicy and alive, with a subtle coconut that makes it creamy and refreshing, ideal for summer. The best part is its evolution: after the luminous opening, a spectacular base of leaves and wood remains—deep yet light, without any cloying sweetness or vanilla. Everything is clean, vegetal, and genuine. The quality is unquestionable; you can feel Diptyque’s care. For those who love green and natural scents, it’s a resounding ten.

I always hesitated to try it because of the fig, but this Diptyque deserves its recognition and is one of the best in its type. It smells of fig tree and fruit with a slightly rough touch (perhaps coconut), mildly sweet and woody base. It’s green, refreshing and calming. It’s an excellent counterpart to Fico di Amalfi and Ferrari’s Noble Fig. Great quality-price ratio, dense aroma and good performance. Perfect for warm climates. Worth trying. Note: 8/10.

I love figs but this isn’t for me. It smells of fig tree with grass and earth; the coconut isn’t that present. I expected something fruitier and sweeter, but it focuses on the tree. It opens green and fresh, with crushed leaves and juniper, almost morning dew. As it dries, it softens into a woody and milky mist. Low sillage, medium longevity (6h). I wouldn’t buy it, but the unique olfactory experience is worth it.

At first I thought it was another scent, but trying it in-store was a disappointment: the fig smells like zombie, with a synthetic coconut base giving it a false aftertaste. It reminds me more of Goutal’s Ninfeo Mio or Paula’s Ibiza. For the price, there are better options. Edit: the seller was curt, but a week later I feel cleaner; on skin, no, what a pity.

I find both the EDP and EDT smell weak; the Parfum barely lasts three hours. It strikes me as too green. I’m looking for a sweeper fig, like ripe fruit, not the leafy kind. The Eau de Toilette smells a bit sweeter and fruitier, but it still gives off that fresh green note I’m not after, plus it doesn’t last at all.

I agree with you, both are weak. If you get the chance, try Premier Figuier by L’Artisan Parfumeur; I think it’s closer to what you’re looking for. It’s fig but not so fresh, it’s more milky because the coconut milk nuances it and makes it sweeter.
