Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani is an aromatic aquatic fragrance for men. Launched in 1996, this composition was created by Alberto Morillas, Annick Menardo and Christian Dussoulier. The top notes unfold with lime, lemon, bergamot, jasmine, orange, mandarin and neroli. The heart reveals a marine harmony with jasmine, calone, rosemary, peach, freesia, hyacinth, cyclamen, violet, coriander, rose, nutmeg and reseda. The base settles on white musk, cedar, oakmoss, patchouli and amber.

This perfume was the first in my collection, unfortunately. Although it smells good, the price is unjustifiable and the longevity and sillage are poor. After buying it, I found a dupe that is 80% identical and costs four times less. To conclude, although I said it smells good, it stays at ‘good’, and there are cheaper perfumes that, for me, are better and more interesting.

  • For now, it won’t go out of fashion; it’s very easy to like… but its longevity leaves much to be desired, lasting at most 3-4 hours. A great classic; it’s like kicking hard in the middle.

  • campeones22

I was gifted some samples at Druni; at 11 AM I applied about 6-8 sprays and surprisingly it lasted until 6 PM projecting, then in the shower it still smelled. The scent is exquisite, but I must admit that Lidl’s ‘Acqua Fresh’ is almost the same, if not identical. Perhaps ADG’s performance has improved over time?

Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani. A mythical fragrance if there ever was one. It redefined a new era in men’s fragrances, moving away from the heavy, woody, and piney formulations of the 70s and 80s. It was a breath of fresh air, one of the first to be citrusy and floral for men. Most perfume lovers have had it, and more than once. It is, along with Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy, what I’ve had most in my collection (I think I owned four bottles of each). Perhaps its aroma, approaching its 30th anniversary, is no longer as avant-garde, but it remains exquisite. It remains the original that gave birth to several variations and reformulations that are great fragrances, such as Profondo, Parfum, Elixir, etc. Generally, it’s the one I test most at airports. I would buy it again without hesitation. Rating: 10/10.

  • SebastianC2702

I don’t feel it’s old at all; I’d never smelled it until someone gifted me a 30ml mini, and it smells spectacular. I’ll use it daily until it runs out and will buy a large bottle; I want it with me always.

  • EliParfum

A father’s fragrance, super delicious, citrusy and fresh, perfect for the heat or a formal summer meeting, to look well-dressed and leave a very good impression.

  • dpineda85

It’s exactly what I’m looking for: citrusy but not aggressive, with a balanced sweet touch, a super fresh aroma. Generally, I use a dupe of Jorge di Profumo Acqua to stay fresher. On dry skin, it lasts about 6-8 hours, although the sillage isn’t very long. Ideal for summer or when it’s very hot.

  • Tordo Uruguayo

Neither good nor bad, it depends on personal taste; I wouldn’t buy it again. There are better citrus scents; I believe CK One and L’ Eau D’Issey surpass it, especially the former.

  • JoseMartin

The scent is very pleasant, citrus with marine notes, very refreshing in times of heat. Unfortunately, its longevity and sillage are very poor, and, given the price, at least here in Peru, it is not worth it. There are many similar options for less, such as Zara’s Lisboa; even its flankers have more punch, like Acqua di Gio Profondo.

  • An absolute classic that revolutionised modern perfumery. Although there are now over ten versions in the collection, this is the one that truly defined an era. It doesn’t smell old, despite being nearly thirty years since its launch. It’s fresh, citrusy, with white floral notes and that energetic, elegant marine vibe we all know. It doesn’t surprise with its longevity or sillage, but rather with how it makes me feel: it gives me energy and shifts my mood, something few fragrances achieve. It’s hard to explain why, perhaps due to its chords, yet with so many ingredients, you don’t detect every single note. Its performance has dropped significantly with the reformulations since 1996; it seems that due to costs or demand, the essence is now more personal and subtle, requiring reapplication every now and then. Overall, nowadays I’d hesitate to buy it given the price and mass appeal, being one of the most classic masculine scents. But I wouldn’t rule out having a sample, because the effect when sprayed is incredible.

  • I used to wear this fragrance when I was very young and loved it. My mother gifted me the perfume a few months ago, and the truth is I was hugely disappointed; it lasts and projects nothing. How could this perfume lose so much??? I have tried perfumes from €12 at Mercadona that last and project more. Incredible.

  • seigeyrpod

An eternal classic of perfumery, the one almost every adult man has had or still has. I have the 15ml version. As of today, there are better options from the same line, such as Profondo, the EDP, or the Parfum, but it never goes out of place to have it in your collection.

  • If anyone ever wanted to capture the Mediterranean man and put him in a bottle, they did it with Acqua di Gio. Here he is: effortlessly tanned, shirt unbuttoned to the third button, gaze between melancholic and roguish, with that gift of being liked without asking permission. The first hit is fresh, citrusy, and clean, like the first summer dive into an exclusive cove. Then comes the marine part, that salty breeze you smell after an argument with the waiters on the terrace and still seem charming. Jasmine, rosemary, a pinch of nostalgia… because everything Mediterranean, however cheerful it may seem, carries a small personal drama, generally romantic and poorly resolved. What’s interesting is that it smells like a man without needing to raise his voice. Unlike those gym perfumes that shout testosterone, this whispers conquests on terraces at dusk, political debates with a vermouth, and promises you won’t fully keep. You wear it and look like someone who read Cavafis on a sun lounger, who knows when to stay silent and when to lie with elegance. A type who could have a broken heart and still remember to splash on cologne before going out to dinner. The typical unlucky soul who leaves a mark… and then never writes again. And beware: half of the male humanity has worn it since 1996. The trick is to wear it as if you didn’t know you were wearing it. Like putting on an expensive jacket without looking at the label, because there are other more important things in your head. Or at least you pretend well.

  • LosPerfumesDeJavi

Acqua di Gio could have been the first perfume that caught my attention. It was in the late 2000s when I smelled it by chance and loved it, but the price scared me and I tried to forget about it. Some time later, I smelled it on an acquaintance and recognised it by its distinct aroma. Years of testing perfumes in stores, it always seemed there was a better option. This fragrance was a jewel, a classic that still sells well, but so reformulated that it no longer shines as before; it has nothing to do with what it used to be. Furthermore, it is extremely overused and copied to the point of saturation; you will smell it on many people in the street, which detracts from its appeal. It is no longer anything special; I wouldn’t buy it for even €10.

  • IliaApturioTopturio

Very citrusy, it smells a bit soapy and lasts very little. If it lasted another 3 hours, it would be my favourite perfume 😭.

  • DavidNeko

Acqua di Gio is a timeless classic that marked a before and after in men’s perfumery. Its fresh, marine opening, with bright citrus notes and a hint of ozone, evokes the sea breeze and a sunny day by the water. Although it seems simple, it has an aromatic and herbal heart that adds complexity without losing lightness. The woody, slightly musky base closes with elegance. It is versatile, easy to wear, and generally well-received; it is one of my favourite scents. I feel sorry for the reformulations, because if it weren’t for the poor longevity, it would be my daily perfume. Longevity: 3–4 hours. Sillage: moderate. Ideal season: spring and summer. Rating: 7/10 – A fresh and reliable staple, but its current performance prevents it from being the essential it could be.

  • Luisfher 82

Love at first sniff. It’s not for nothing: it’s the best seller of all perfumery. I bought it about 15 years ago; it was my signature fragrance at university and the girls praised it a lot; I even had five bottles until I switched to Bleu de Chanel at the office. Despite its years, I feel it’s timeless, a classic you must have. I have a bottle with about 15 ml; the last time I used it to watch a football match with my old schoolmates. I have great affection for it, although I use it from time to time out of nostalgia. I recommend it to the new generation.

  • soysamlopez

They say with Acqua di Gio you won’t surprise or offend anyone, which is a lot to say when there are so many horrible perfumes that only project. It’s fresh, masculine, citrusy and marine; it smells like a semi-formal white shirt turned into perfume. Here it gets up to 32 degrees and I wear it without feeling suffocated by the scent.

  • Fantastic perfume! Ideal for cold climates and super special occasions. In my country it’s very expensive to buy, but one day I’ll have the opportunity to do so.

  • campeones22

It’s a fragrance that, despite being 30 years old, doesn’t feel vintage like Cool Water or Drakkar Noir. On my skin, it lasts quite a while (more than 10 sprays); for the first two hours, it projects, not a ‘wow’ projection, but it projects, and then it accompanies you all day. It’s very masculine and fresh. I recommend applying it after a shower and some moisturising cream to prolong its longevity. I tried several clones, some very good, but none like the original EDT. Only the Parfum version surpasses it. Finally, I recommend buying the 100ml bottle to re-apply or to throw it on with gusto.

  • alejandrors12

Do not underestimate this classic simply because of its age: at first, I thought it was a generic scent and I was wrong. I’ve had the bottle for two months and, for no apparent reason, it’s the one I use most (four times a week). With the heat here, many perfumes become overwhelming, but this Acqua di Gio maintains freshness and sparkle without suffocating. I’m sure I’ll finish it soon and buy it again. The longevity is moderate, around 5-6 hours with 8 sprays, but that’s good for smelling clean without being intrusive. Simple, fresh, green and aquatic notes with a touch of peach and jasmine in the heart; that fruity part is my favourite, although sometimes it gets lost among the freshness of the calone. If you’re not looking for something excessive, it’s perfect: simple, beautiful and a novelty in a world of sweet, heavy scents.

  • Aurumperfumes.Col

A 90s classic. In the hands of master Morillas, this perfume remains among the best marine scents a man can wear, nearly 30 years later. It’s fine that there are more modern and youthful things today, but this is for feeling like a Mediterranean Gentleman. The Calone and that bitter marine part spread across the skin, while a salty freshness floats in the air, illuminated by a scent that one doesn’t quite know what it is but SMELLS VERY GOOD. It doesn’t fail for this summer!

  • I love the perfume, and those floral notes give it an elegant touch. 10/10 for lovers of the Aqua di Gio line like me.

  • Make sure to grab the 2024 EDT version. It’s incredible how they’ve recovered that original formula that fell in love with me since I first knew it. I repeat, aim for the 2024 version if you can’t find old batches, because frankly, they’ve even improved the longevity on the skin a bit.

  • FloridaStyle

I was born three years after its launch, but I don’t feel it smells outdated. I think it smells of class, a clean man, and a rich citrus. I use it for work; I’m a lawyer, and I believe it’s ad hoc. Its main weakness is the very low longevity, perhaps around 3 hours. If this were different, it would undoubtedly be the perfect fragrance for my daily work life, although I think it also influences the fact that I’m exposed quite a bit to the sun, heat, and sweat.

  • CruzPalacio

It’s one of the first fragrances I recognised as a child; my older brother had it and used it secretly. It’s super reliable and easy to process; I don’t know anyone who dislikes this scent.

  • I’ll separate scent from longevity. The scent is an infallible classic, like a white shirt: it fits anywhere, from casual to formal. It’s fresh, simple yet elegant, with a masculine character. Men find it familiar, almost like deodorant, so it doesn’t drive us crazy like it does women. However, women of all ages literally sigh when they smell it. As for longevity, it used to be a joke of bad taste that didn’t last even water; now, with the new formula, it lasts 4 or 5 hours on the skin. It’s not a miracle, but you can still smell it after an hour, whereas before it was an insult.

  • JuanPepinot

It’s the PE Red in a refined version, or vice versa. The PE Red bothers me because it’s very aggressive; this one isn’t. It’s a safe bet; I have the 200ml version and it smells like everything a gentleman might want to express: NEAT, PLEASANT, JOY, AND ETERNAL YOUTH.

  • I see many clueless people here posting reviews without knowing that Aqua Di Gio came out after L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme (1994) and was clearly inspired by it, or rather, a clone with much better marketing than the original.

  • I noticed it on my partner one day and didn’t like it at all. It’s not unbearable, but for me, it’s not attractive. Generally, he wears Valentino Uomo Born in Roma, JPG Le Male, a Zara one that smells heavenly, Invictus Absolu by Rabanne and The Most Wanted by Azzaro. Perhaps they aren’t the same style, but I loved all the others, even the Zara one; they seemed irresistible to me, except this one. For me, it smells like a man with his life sorted out, who lacks nothing, older and mature, even fatherly, yet without depth or mystery. It’s not a bad perfume, simply I don’t find it attractive or interesting.

  • It smells so good that my sisters, even though they were in their teens and didn’t want to smell like men, would grab me to use it because they loved it. It’s not a feminine scent, but rather that of a clean, confident man. It doesn’t shout ‘macho’; it’s an aroma that any nose accepts and conveys total confidence.

  • metroidsoldier

I tried it in-store and found it very citrusy and aromatic, smelling of orange, lemon, lime, neroli, bergamot, mandarin and peach. However, its projection doesn’t last long.

  • Nachoman2406

A fragrance every man should own, rich and refreshing. Summer at its finest. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last more than three hours.

  • JuliánNoel

This is my first designer fragrance review and I must say it’s the most addictive one I’ve ever had. I thought it would smell vintage, but that’s not the case. I loved it and will buy another when this runs out. For usage, I recommend temperate to warm climates, from 20 degrees upwards. What I liked most is that it’s very noble, not cloying and easy to wear. I love it because it’s exactly what I was looking for. The downside is the longevity; in my case, it lasts about four hours, but I’ll keep buying it for the scent. It smells very clean, Mediterranean, sexy and rich, especially in the heat. For me, it’s for everything; it looks good at any time. It’s a safe bet, pity it doesn’t last as long. The batch I bought is from 2018; someone recommended always buying the one that says ‘Pour Homme’ at the bottom and before 2024, as they weakened it significantly around then.

  • Acqua Di Giò Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani. There are things that never age, such as fragrances that always surprise. This is a work that appeals to both young people and adults. Acqua Di Giò is a 90s classic that has aged very well. It’s remarkable how it holds up. It’s the salty, intense scent of the sea bottled. It features notes of salt, Calone (that molecule which gives the marine scent) and plenty of water. It’s the fragrance you wear when going shopping on a hot day. I live where temperatures range from 28 to 38 degrees; the heat is intense and I like to wear perfume. I love it because it brings me peace; it’s rich, citrusy, aquatic and very marine. That salty note makes you feel in the middle of a crystal-clear sea in France with the sun burning your skin. It’s the scent of summer, sensational. Those who say it’s old or that there are better flankers… perhaps they are right. But one cannot deny that for a reason it is so chosen. It’s a safe bet for lovers of marine fragrances. It’s versatile: suitable for dates, work, the beach or the pool. Acqua Di Giò, Profondo and Profumo are the best so far. Excellent perfume. Verdict: Scent 9.1/10. Versatility: Very good for heat and dates. Longevity: Not made to last long, but it does its job well for daily wear. Final note: 9.5/10. Negative point: poor longevity.

  • Daniel Henderson 77

Undoubtedly my favourite fragrance from my youth. I’ve used countless bottles. While any perfume works year-round, this is bottled summer personified. Fresh, seductive and timeless. Thousands of flankers may have been released, but for me, this remains the indisputable Number One of all time. A scent that today drives me absolutely mad. I don’t care if it receives compliments or if some find it old-fashioned… I enjoy it 100%. The last units I bought don’t last as long as the older ones; I’m not sure if it’s my skin or those notorious reformulations… the truth is, I still enjoy it and will buy another when I can. Highly recommended regardless of age. If you like it, go for it.

  • Gerabloodaromic

If you’re seeking a haven of calm and refined taste, you’ve found the perfect spot. It’s a classic for a reason: its balance is impeccable. While many have tried to copy it, the subtlety of Armani’s original version remains unsurpassed. Simply put, thank you, Alberto Morillas: ‘It is the scent of freedom and water; a masterpiece that, despite the passage of time, refuses to age.’

Classy florals: it opens with an intense floral hit and a touch of sweet peach. It sounds classic at first, but soon becomes light and girly, like a girl playing among flowers in a mansion garden. Then the water arrives, refreshing and revitalising everything. The aquatic floral heart is alive and evolving, preventing it from being flat. It conveys elegant everyday freshness. In the base, a shy rose with musk and neutral woods for a unisex vibe. Ideal for spring and summer: refined but not stuffy. Rating: 8.5/10. Turns florals into a symbol of class and freshness.

  • I found a renewed version outside my country, as it hasn’t been sold here for years. It smells like my grandmother’s garden in summer with sheets hanging out in the sun. It’s clean, fresh and super personal, as if just stepped out of the shower in the heat. It’s not as sharp as the 90s version, but it remains lovely.

  • This perfume is DIVINE. I owned it several times and it was my go-to for day and night, in any season. I missed it when they discontinued it.

  • Finally managed to get a travel size and oh surprise! What have they done to Acqua di Giò???!!! They’ve tinkered with it. I bought the Senigalia version a year ago and thought: what happened to these people? Didn’t they have the original to inspire them? It seems they did: the reformulation. I have a good olfactory memory; this would never have left a good impression on my nose as a child. There’s only an earthy pineapple left, but more earth than pineapple 😂😂😂🙄🥹. No other notes are detectable. Disappointment with reformulations. It’s better to take it off the market and move on.

  • AntaresAres

I remember that in the 90s there was an explosion of aquatic, ozonic and languid fragrances that I liked almost all of them. I was not very discriminating, haha, I lived almost in an olfactory paradise (lie). Acqua di Giò stood out for its potent vodka scent; although it is floral-fruity, for me it was a very clear aquatic floral. The pineapple is evident, but it’s a perfume too light, evanescent, perhaps due to the softness of the jasmine and lily of the valley, for my nose to see it as purely fruity. Ylang-ylang rounded off a delicate juice but with personality, deceptively simple. I loved it very much, alongside L’eau par Kenzo, among my favourites of those anemic scents that were in fashion millennia ago. I miss that trend. Has it aged well? From my point of view, it remains very wearable, especially for summer; however, I’m not sure it will appeal to a young audience, accustomed to more melodramatic and colourful perfumery. Acqua di Giò presents itself as too measured and serene for current tastes; perhaps a more mature woman (not necessarily by age) would be able to admire its classic spirit.

  • algopasaconpili

I’m a woman, and with Armani it happened to me that I first became a fan of the men’s perfume in the lightbulb bottle; my boyfriend bought it for him in 1996 and I used it, I adored it. Fresh, crisp, soapy and dry, delicious and very different. A year later I gifted him the Aqua di Gio for men and… guess what, I almost used it all up that summer. It was for men, so what? Aquatic and fresh, I felt like opening a watermelon, I loved it. A year later I bought the Aqua di Gio for woman, my first perfume with vodka and peach, much sweeter than the previous ones, which I’m still in love with. Since then, every perfume with peach and vodka catches my attention. Aqua di Gio for woman was groundbreaking in the late 90s, very different from those concentrated and matronly perfumes. It still seems youthful and sparkly to me for spring and summer.

  • My mum has a bottle of Acqua di Gio from the 90s; that perfume has existed longer than I have, and the bottle in full 2024 still has millilitres left. ✨Scent: I love it, the vodka distinguishes it from any other floral perfume and turns it into a luxury party encapsulated in the bottle. It’s beautiful, fresh and intoxicating, with the bearing of a refined, wealthy woman. I think of this presentation and I think of champagne, Gatsby and old money. ✨Notes: The vodka is everything, it predominates over 60% alcohol against the flowers, pineapple and peach which fall into the background. ✨Longevity: 7 hours, but it has been macerated for over 25 years. ✨Sillage: People around you perceive it. ✨Opinion: It’s spectacular and intoxicating. I hope one day to get my own bottle, but it’s most likely it won’t smell the same due to reformulations and the maceration of the one my mum has.

  • I was almost a teenager and on the pedestrian streets of Córdoba the perfumery saleswomen came out to promote new fragrances. Those were times when you weren’t filtered by age or clothing; they gave us all a tissue with Acqua di Giò. What a pleasure to feel it!!! If it entered through the eyes, I’d say I have it etched on my retina. Few perfumes seem so fresh and elegant at the same time to me. It is refined. It is a masterpiece. It smells good always, from the start until its sunset. Definitely, impeccable!

  • We could say it’s the perfect perfume after a shower following a long and hot day at the beach. Aquatic, floral (especially jasmine), subtly herbaceous, clean and talcum-like. Suitable in all seasons, but especially for hot days, as it is fresh and relieving. But the freshness that is recalled is not citrusy, although it has them, but of water: of the sound of a stream lying in the grass with flowers between sun and shade of the trees, of the first plunge into the sea, of coming out of the pool wet and walking barefoot on the grass directly to the towel. Acqua di Gio fills you with good humour and joy instantly. Personally, in the era of Acqua di Gio, close to the beginning of my transition from girl to woman, I could have known this classic, but I came out of heavy perfumes like Don Algodón to go directly to the super gourmands that were starting to become fashionable (Les Belles de Ricci by Nina Ricci, the summer editions of Escada, Angel… even the legendary vanilla from Yves Rocher reached my collection) and unfortunately I didn’t get to pass through these aquatic perfumes that I like so much now. Nevertheless, Acqua di Gio undoubtedly transports me to those first days of youth on holiday, although its scent didn’t accompany me. But it doesn’t smell like youth in general (nor youthful), as the current generation could not be perceived less, but rather that of all those who entered adolescence at the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s. A great era and undoubtedly a great perfume.

  • Fresh, soft but perceptible. They highlighted me at the office that they felt it, but normal, without much fuss… I approve it, but I wouldn’t buy it again; I present more sweet gourmand trends… So “next”, I keep trying until I find my other perfumery self.

  • Pure aquatic, straight jasmine. Nothing like Acqua di Gioia: it’s not musky or fruity, and watch out, Gioia remains the best.

  • Sulamita Dulce

I’m surprised by so many good reviews. It was one of my first, and now I wonder if it’s been reformulated or if it’s just my skin chemistry. I’m usually a gourmand lover, but I wanted something summery and bought it blind… YUCK! I find it repulsive. Very alcoholic, boozy, mossy, medicinal, nothing fresh. More invasive and grating. A resounding NO. It’s now purely decorative; I’ll give it to my mother as the last time she wore it, she felt good. Plus, the performance is mediocre. This cured me of buying blind.

  • Anakin Mati

I’m absolutely fascinated; it smells like real summer. I’m utterly obsessed with that vodka note. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available in Argentina, so I only wear it drop by drop for special occasions.

  • It was my first fresh aquatic, sea, beach, and summer. Extremely sexy; just spraying it made me happy. It’s that perfume that gives energy and brings joy. I still love it, unfortunately it has terrible performance on my skin, but I adore that special scent.

  • It’s a fresh summer afternoon near the beach. Peony, pineapple, peach, violet, jasmine, amber, musk, and cedar stand out. A sweet aquatic from the nineties. I still keep the 1998 bottle: fresh, woody, elegant, long-lasting, and well-made.

  • I loved it. It’s floral, fruity, and aquatic. The pineapple doesn’t shine much, but the peach does, and I sense a slight melon. You can feel that sweet hint of vodka; although it’s not missing, as a good perfume of yesteryear, it’s a floral bomb but nothing overly heavy. Its aquatic notes and calone moderate that bouquet. It smells totally like the beach without being the typical coconut and vanilla. It smells like a cocktail party on the beach, a fine restaurant near the coast. Very delicious, I’ll enjoy it for the rest of the summer.

  • This will be one of my perfume loves; smelling it makes me smile foolishly. It was responsible for me discovering how much I like aquatic scents. They aren’t the same as Eau de Issey Miyake or Ralph Lauren’s Polo Sport for women (now discontinued), but the effect is identical. The only thing I didn’t like was its poor longevity on my skin, but obviously it depends on everyone; it’s one of the few for whom I forgive bad performance.

  • The nineties gave birth to classic floral aquatics, imprinted in the memory of those who lived the decade. Earthy, animalic, and chypre perfumes with woods and leathers were banished; the aquatic era arrived, catapulted by Calone, that molecule translating ‘the breath of the ocean’. Similar to algae pheromones, when diluted it smells like brine, slightly sweet, like freshly cut cucumber. This concept exploded in marketing: beach ads, sun, couples, and freedom. Water lilies, lotus, and lilies overshadowed neroli and dark roses. Peonies and freesias gained more relevance, accompanied by juicy fruits like melon and peach, and soft white musks. Entering the world of Acqua di Gio means understanding this: it marked an era alongside Cool Water, L’Eau d’Issey, and L’Eau Park. Every era has replicas, but before fragrances had more quality. The structure was similar but with different notes that tweaked the work. Aquatics have two problems: they don’t age well and reformulations don’t suit them. The 1990s Cosmair version is delicate: opening of lilies, peonies, and freesia, soft hyacinth in the base, then the sweetness of pineapple and lily of the valley. The vodka is sweet and passable, the musk perfect, touches of rose and an amber side, with faint woods. The Luxury Products reformulation is noisier, with boosted vodka in artificial alcohol, but once it settles, the muguet/hyacinth combo with rose recovers the original beauty. Floral, aquatic, and aromatic; one spray is enough and more.

I bought my first Acqua di Gio in the nineties and it doesn’t seem the same; before it had a melon fruity note. Whatever the case, it’s fresh, clean, perfect for summer, but retains the complexity of the nineties, loaded with notes, so it suits any season. It’s for those days when you want to smell fresh, like just showered with an exotic floral gel. Absolutely recommended.

  • Oh! How I wish I could return to 1996, when I started my career, walking down tree-lined streets with soft sunlight. Everything was slower, and I carried this wonder. I discovered that turquoise smells beautiful, that even when it’s hot, a fragrance makes you feel fresh, and with a spritz, the mood changes. Emotions, all this comes to my mind when I see or recall the Acqua di Gio bottle. In a country like Chile, where everything arrives late and the good things last little, this intoxicating potion is no exception. I miss it: that scent of summer, sun, delicate dresses, and magical sunset colours. I miss an era where fragrances were masterpieces, which I return to every time the speed of the present chases me, just closing my eyes and remembering its scent.

  • Acqua di Gio, the eternal summer. Since 1996, when Morillas and Menardo threw the hat in the ring, it has been a historic success. Few remember that the name was born in ’95 with that turquoise bottle and gold cap. It opens citrusy, floral and aquatic, with a strong hit of whites that make a statement. As it dries, its soul shines: a unique feminine freedom for my nose. Then, the fruit takes over, peach and pineapple, an indescribable charm. Hours later, woods, musk and amber provide the final warmth. That turquoise is impeccable. It smells like a soft, simple, elegant, free and beautiful woman. Its magic is travelling to endless summer nights, with that aquatic-floral-fruity blend as the perfect accessory to a warm smile and a mischievous look. Its legacy is the memories of teenagers who now have grey hair. A generation of fairy tales. Every time I smell it, time stops in those eternal summers.

  • I’ve worn it for 20 years and it’s essential in summer. Fresh and it lasts on my skin. I haven’t found anything else like it and I never get tired of it. It has nuances that evolve with the hours. I love it!

  • Turquoise. If colours were notes, Acqua di Gio is turquoise. When I smell it, I feel that colour: turquoise sea, turquoise sky, wet plants and flowers, breeze and light. It smells fresh, aquatic, sweet and floral. It’s indescribable and hypnotic, simple yet unmatched. I never get tired of it; it’s my ace in the hole when I don’t know what to wear. It gives me optimism, joy, serenity and lightness. It’s the feeling of coming off the beach without smelling of soap or dust, something authentic. The longevity is excellent for a fresh scent. More than a classic, it’s timeless and essential. As I get tired quickly, I buy the small bottles, but this one is always in the big one.

  • -The aquatic floral-. Although it is floral-fruity, it’s fantastic. In the era of potent fragrances, when Dune was a beauty, Acqua di Gio pour femme was the queen of summer. Ideal for ladies looking for something refreshing, floral and feminine, not unisex. It inspired using it with linen for boat trips, with a fine elegance. Today, with more heat, I don’t use it at the beach because it smells strong to me, but in the city or for special occasions in the heat it remains my choice. It has presence, good longevity and strong projection. A must for lovers of the aquatic and feminine.

  • I love it, very fresh and pleasant for summer. I’ve used it for years and never got tired of it. I’ve finished several bottles.

  • I love it, some say it smells bad but it suits me perfectly. I enjoy its freshness and feel like I’m at the beach thanks to those marine, fruity and sweet but subtle notes. The trail doesn’t last long, but it can’t be missing from my collection alongside its brother Acqua di Gioia.

  • charlotinable

Freshness made sensual and the most refreshing elegance are here. Ideal for hot days and rainy summers. It lasts a treat, has a powerful trail and a wonderful dry-down. The fruits and citrus join perfectly with a vodka base that acts as a ferment for all the ingredients, it seems like a delicious drink. What a wonder to use it after a bath, it gives that air of cleanliness, tidiness and vigour. A divine and immortal perfume.

  • Perhaps because it is so aquatic, I don’t feel the fruity or floral notes, I smell it bitter and with a desire. I tried the imitation, the EDP and the EDT and it’s always the same: bitter and more bitter, it doesn’t suit me, very strong and its presence is noticeable wherever it goes.

  • It’s my go-to scent. I wear it in summer and a little in spring. My mum used to wear it, and I inherited it since; it’s now a family tradition. It’s the only one that transports me to another place, to a summer day near the beach or the Mediterranean. It’s soft, not cloying, feels natural and fresh.

  • I wore this back when I was fifteen, and now, twenty years later, I’ve bought it again. I had forgotten how beautiful, fresh and summery it was. After trying so many new fragrances, I realised that now that I’m older, I love nineties scents. It doesn’t overpower; it’s like being freshly showered for hours. On my skin, it has excellent longevity. After twenty years, it fell in love with me all over again. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

  • This is my second bottle, and what incredible complexity and development. It’s potent for an EDT. I feel like I’m on an island, dressed in white, letting the wind tousle my black hair while I watch the turquoise waves waiting for my pirate ally. It captivates me.

  • One of the few perfumes I’ve bought multiple times. I love it! Although it’s a bit outdated now, every time I smell it, I fall in love. There’s a huge difference with the Aqua di Giò I bought blindly thinking ‘what could possibly go wrong?’. Ugh, it failed at everything! The Aqua di Giò is romantic; its brother suffocates. I’m not sure if I’d buy it today, but what I do know is that during the years I wore it, it was my favourite. Edit: today, after several years, I bought it again. By God, what a wonder! It fell in love with me just like before. I regret not having bought it sooner. By far, it’s one of the best I’ve had and have in my life. It transports me back many years and fills me with happiness. What satisfaction I feel today.

  • I’ve always wanted a girlfriend who smelled like Acqua di Giò. Smelling it on a girl’s neck is incredible. Very warm in its certain coolness, romantic and with a very sexy edge. I could breathe it like oxygen. It speaks to feminine virtues. This turquoise scent always makes me think of that attractive girl with a well-organised mind to whom anything suits. In my circle, I’ve never seen it overused. It’s a scent of naturalness and freshness, but nothing simple or boring. It seems quite misty. More than a crystal stream, it’s vapour. Breath, warm and sensual. I don’t know if it’s the peony or the vodka responsible for that effect reminding me of the lotus flower in Oh! by Moschino, another great fragrance. AdG seems to me a full-fledged floral. I smell a vaporous, varied bouquet of wet petals, with that hyacinth nuance that drives me mad, pure femininity. It seems timeless, more than classic. It smells of youth. To those who have lost it but have that spirit, this perfume will give it back to them. A friend used to wear it to go out on Saturdays. She was the most beautiful in her group, with large green eyes, long ash-blonde hair and a scandalous figure. She attracted everything like a magnet. She got good grades, dressed well and had a great house. But sometimes she was surprisingly insecure, shy about her own magic. I think this AdG suffers the same. It’s not a perfume that comes out to devour the world shouting ‘here I am’, like other mediocre ones. I fancy championing this perfume which seems to me feminine to the nth degree and, in my opinion, unjustly eclipsed by its male sibling. Beautiful. 10/10.

  • A delicious aquatic floral essence. Feminine, seductive and elegant; with the harmony of its notes, it suggests contact with nature. It has a potent opening where fruity tones stand out, especially the aldehydic notes and pineapple, accompanied by wet violets. It’s refreshing and of a clean style, with an intense sea breeze nuance that makes it tender and strong at the same time. In its heart phase, the potency decreases, it maintains the sweet fruit tone (with melon reminiscences) and the balance between the aquatic accord and the floral line gains prominence. I perceive lilies at times, jasmine at others, and lilies and hyacinths at others. It’s as if they had put spring next to the sea inside a minimalist green bottle. I usually have problems with longevity on many fragrances, and in this case, after about four hours, the intensity drops quite a bit, leaving on the skin the softened note of calone with a woody tone. The sense of serenity is so great that I have no problem reapplying, as its trail and longevity are moderate. I understand that its use is associated with summer, but I enjoy flowers and the sea all year round.

  • I’m a bit of a perfume freak, and after 20 years of trying almost everything, I’ve never found one I like more. On the contrary, whenever I discover a fragrance blind, I compare it with this. Nowadays, the concept of ‘clean’ is associated with soapy and powdery scents, but Acqua di Giò is very aquatic. And it’s rare to find an aquatic fragrance with more projection and longevity than this. It results in being very ethereal, different from all, even today. Only Clean Rain comes close, without being very similar, but equally magical. This fragrance impacts others greatly: besides praising it, it has a somewhat hypnotic effect. The only drawback is that many people know it and you lose that unique sensation. Be that as it may, out of hundreds, it’s my favourite by a country mile.

  • Claudia Laborde

A rich fragrance that reminds us of the nineties. Juvenile but classy and elegant, fresh and striking.

There’s something strangely odd inside the first Acqua di Giò. This review is about the current formula (I don’t know if it was reformulated, probably yes, but I don’t know the characteristics of the classic version). Acqua di Giò is a fragrance ahead of its time. We all know the ‘clean scent’ fashion of the late nineties; Acqua di Giò appeared at the end of the war between medicinal-fruity and floral-solar compositions. You might expect something belligerent, but the result is the opposite. There is a conflict, but it seems like a political-diplomatic one that only a sociologist would explain in a convoluted way. Acqua di Giò has its own charm, like Kevin MacLeod’s instrumental compositions: apparently simple but extremely atmospheric. It conveys its humour, ironically indifference. It’s characterised by a neat and delicate scent… without sweets, without powder, without leather, without flowers, at most a citrus touch at the beginning. It’s from head to toe, reminiscent of the perfect scent of a household cleaning product (the complex and melancholic grandfather of the affable Fresh by Moschino). The peony note has always been aquatic and fluid, but with a certain hidden sweetness; here, the vodka flavoured with… musk sweets? eclipses and encapsulates the fragrance. It presents brief ozonic flashes and talc-like touches, typical of a pessimistic version of Anais Anais by Cacharel. Functionally, it’s undoubtedly for summer (I doubt anyone would use it in winter, mostly out of pity). Although its hydrostatic character isn’t the most fun, I’m not saying it’s not for casual moments; on hot days it has an energising effect. The male version seems better crafted. The female one evokes tonic water, even tap water with a medicinal tablet dissolved. If I were to represent it visually, I’d think of a pool full of cold, chlorinated water. The intensity is subtle and, despite being clean, it feels constraining to me; I theorise that overuse exhausts the user. The trail is scarce and longevity is moderate. If I were to recommend fragrances for summer, I think Blue Drop Halloween or Light Blue by D&G are more attractive options. In conclusion: if you have the opportunity to mix it with a gourmand fragrance, you might find an interesting surprise.

  • This fragrance made me fall in love with perfumes for good. I remember a schoolmate who sold imitations. I tried all the little bottles. None caught my attention except this one. It convinced me instantly; it had something, a note that made it irresistible. Unfortunately, I never got the original version. As soon as I started working, I set myself the goal of buying it as my first investment, along with J’adore by Dior. I bought both 100ml bottles from Mercado Libre and they turned out to be imitations. As soon as I sprayed them, with much effort, I could smell a bit of that note that had fallen in love with me. After that, I could only perceive a strange, ugly smell, like sour honey. On fabrics it didn’t smell bad; obviously, it reacted badly on my skin. It disappointed me greatly. I ended up giving it away. What a pity.
