Tribute Blue by Afnan

Spiced and oriental yet fresh; it sounds odd but that’s exactly how it is. Ideal for the office or events, though for me it feels too heavy for temperatures above 30°C and doesn’t quite suit me. If not for that, it would be my fragrance of the year. Afnan has nailed something original that enriches my olfactory experience.

Bought it blind, comparing it to the original Cacharel (which is no longer the same) and the Loewe 7. No regrets; it’s delicious. It smells more like the Loewe 7 Anonyme to me, and as it dries down, it reminds me of Adolfo Domínguez’s Cedar, which surprised me. The top notes are what I love about the old Loewe and Cacharel: lots of pepper and clove, dry and elegant, like Blackpepper by CdG. The packaging weighs a kilo. Ideal for cold nights; prepare yourself for compliments.

I discovered that Tribute Blue isn’t just autumnal; it’s strictly winter. When it truly drops, between -2 and 9 degrees, the perfume transforms. The cold tightens its structure and reveals its character: creamy woods and rounded amber. If By the Fireplace by Margiela is the chestnut stall, Tribute Blue is a noble wood parlour with an expensive coat. More masculine, refined, and adult. After months, the liquid hasn’t macerated; my nose has. Learning to smell better and separate layers. Tribute Blue doesn’t reveal itself at first glance, only when your nose is ready. The ‘Blue’ isn’t freshness; it’s a deep, warm, nocturnal blue, like L’Eau Bleue d’Issey. At first, I sought comparisons, but it has its own footprint. For under €50, it plays in high leagues without harshness or cheap chemical dry-down. After trying Oud for Greatness by Initio, they are siblings: Initio with saffron, Afnan with amber. I stick with Tribute Blue; it’s kinder. It doesn’t seek to please everyone; it accompanies those who know how to wait. In winter, when others fade, this shines with sober elegance. A perfect name: a tribute to patience and a well-understood cold.

It stands apart from generic profiles, projecting mature masculinity and distinction. Olfactorily, it’s clean, dry, and elegant, with warm woods and subtle incense. Without youthful sweetness, it offers deep sophistication, seriousness, and mystery. It’s versatile: works in any season, from the office to formal events. Solid fixation and projection, very reliable. Verdict: Tribute Blue is ideal for the gentleman seeking a versatile fragrance with character and performance, reflecting maturity and authority.

I own several Afnan fragrances and this one is excellent. I confess that at first, I didn’t like it, but after months, I find it exquisite and addictive. Woody, incense-like, very manly and mature. Lasts 10 hours on the skin and is perfect for the office, evoking distinction and leadership.

Wonderful; it doesn’t resemble the Loewe 7, neither the new nor the old version, as I own both. It resembles an Azzaro Visconti more, with more pepper and a typical intense blue touch from Afnan.

One of the few ‘blues’ that doesn’t smell mass-market. It has personality; it’s not an exact clone, although it smells like the Loewe reference. The opening is a bit strident (nutmeg), but the dry-down is very pleasant and evolves. Very long-lasting on skin and clothes. A classic for the collection and suitable as a signature scent (ideal for day or office for me). Excellent value for money (€25 on offer).

The Afnan Tribute Blue is a unisex fragrance that deserves more fame. It opens fresh and spicy, with bergamot blended with nutmeg and Jamaican pepper. In the heart, amber and cashmere wood provide warmth, while musk, white wood, incense, and vetiver close with a strong, lasting trail. It evolves beautifully, suits any occasion, but truly shines in the cold. It smells rich and complex, mixing sophistication with an oriental market atmosphere. Excellent longevity and very original.

What a rich, potent, and manly scent! Longevity and projection are top-notch. At first, I didn’t like it; it seemed like a body or sexual scent, perhaps due to the musk, but now I love it and can’t stop smelling it. It’s not linear; the dry-down is marvellous.
