Tribute Blue by Afnan

I’ve discovered that Tribute Blue isn’t an autumnal scent; it is strictly for winter. When it’s truly cold, between -2 and 9 degrees, the fragrance changes. The cold tightens its structure and brings out its full character. The woods become creamy, and the amber rounds everything off with elegance. If Margiela is the chestnut stall, this is a noble wood salon, low light, and expensive coat. More masculine, refined, and adult. After months, the liquid hasn’t mellowed; my nose has. With time, you learn to smell better and understand layers that previously seemed like one thing. This fragrance doesn’t reveal itself at first; it only shows when your nose is ready. The name can be misleading, but there is intent: the ‘Blue’ isn’t freshness; it’s a deep, warm, nocturnal blue, like L’Eau Bleue, offering introspection and calm. At first, I sought comparisons, but over time it has its own footprint. For under €50, it offers a private perfumery experience without harshness or cheap chemical dry-down. Although I tried Initio’s Oud for Greatness and they are siblings (sharing DNA, but Initio uses more saffron while this uses more amber), I stick with Tribute Blue; it’s kinder and more wearable. It doesn’t seek to please everyone, but to accompany those who know how to wait for the right moment. In winter, when others fade, this shines with sober elegance. A perfect name: it is a tribute to patience, discernment, and a well-understood cold.

I bought it blind, reading reviews comparing it to the original Cacharel Pour Homme, one of my all-time favourites (which doesn’t resemble the current version) and Loewe 7. The truth is, I have no regrets at all. It’s delicious, but in reality, it reminds me more of Loewe 7 Anonyme. After a few days, I noticed a cedar note in the dry-down very similar to Adolfo Domínguez’s Citrus Cedro. I’d love someone to confirm this; I was surprised. The opening notes are everything I love about Loewe and the vanished Cacharel: lots of pepper and clove, in a dry and elegant version that also reminded me of Comme des Garçons’ Blackpepper. Special mention to the packaging, which weighs a kilo. Great purchase. Ideal for making an impact on cold or fresh days, especially in the evening. Prepare for compliments.

Slipped into my collection without making a fuss and became addictive instantly, dethroning my signature scent. It’s incredibly versatile: suitable for evenings, mild summers, or even winter (though not for sport). Moderate projection but it clings beautifully to the skin. Masculine, kind, sexy without being sweet; that perfect balance between clean and ‘almost dirty’. Reminds me of Narciso Blue Noir. If a woman smelled it, I’d be shocked but would ask her to marry me. Little known, costs €40, and is one of my best purchases. Scent: 9, Projection: 7, Longevity: 8.5.

The Afnan Tribute Blue is a unisex fragrance that deserves more fame. It opens fresh and spicy, with bergamot blended with nutmeg and Jamaican pepper. In the heart, amber and cashmere wood provide warmth, while musk, white wood, incense, and vetiver close with a strong, lasting trail. It evolves beautifully, suits any occasion, but truly shines in the cold. It smells rich and complex, mixing sophistication with an oriental market atmosphere. Excellent longevity and very original.

What a beauty! When I lost hope of recovering the original Cacharel, which the designers have betrayed, I found this tribute multiplied and improved. It’s so potent that I use it for parties and romance. It generates compliments and is impossible to go unnoticed. People ask me to stop recommending it to maintain exclusivity. Perhaps that’s why there are so few reviews. It’s so special that people don’t want it to become mass-market.

One of the few ‘blues’ that doesn’t smell mass-market. It has personality; it’s not an exact clone, although it smells like the Loewe reference. The opening is a bit strident (nutmeg), but the dry-down is very pleasant and evolves. Very long-lasting on skin and clothes. A classic for the collection and suitable as a signature scent (ideal for day or office for me). Excellent value for money (€25 on offer).

Bought it today. Although I don’t know the Loewe 7, I sense a slight resemblance to Miyake Blue. It has a mentholated and sweaty accord, a somewhat strident opening that isn’t annoying, but the dry-down is something else. The performance is noticeable; I’ll test it properly these days, but for now, I have no complaints.

What a rich, potent, and manly scent! Longevity and projection are top-notch. At first, I didn’t like it; it seemed like a body or sexual scent, perhaps due to the musk, but now I love it and can’t stop smelling it. It’s not linear; the dry-down is marvellous.

Wonderful; it doesn’t resemble the Loewe 7, neither the new nor the old version, as I own both. It resembles an Azzaro Visconti more, with more pepper and a typical intense blue touch from Afnan.
