Black Suede Dark by Avon

I might be the only madman, but it smells similar to One Million. It’s a sweet leather, not saying they’re identical, but they’re very close. Very easy to wear.

Not a particularly pleasant scent overall. It’s very cheap to get, but it’s super synthetic; the leather smell actually smells like plastic.

What a beast! At first, I thought it would be a lugubrious, gothic cured leather, but I absolutely love how different it is from the rest of my collection and how perfectly it complements it. The more I wear it, the more I adore it. There’s a moment that makes me feel super clean, as if I’d just used detergent, and I adore that. It’s the perfect perfume for a black leather jacket, nothing more, nothing less: ideal for cold, mysterious nights with an impossible air of intrigue.

It’s like walking into a saddlery and having a fruit shop just 100 metres away. It has pleasant fruit notes, but they’re imperceptible due to the strong leather that dominates everything. It’s a raw leather that sometimes takes on burnt notes (very synthetic), without any sweet notes to soften it. It gives a linear character, and you can’t appreciate the rest. I like leather fragrances, but this is the first one with such a strong leather scent, without a single hint of sweetness to mask it. US$3 in Argentina, so it didn’t affect my wallet. I bought it blindly, launched in 2020, and thought it had modern touches, but definitely not, nor vintage. The Black Suede line was for a +35 audience, but I’m not sure where to place this one; it might divide opinions. Those who love leather like in a saddlery will like it. I don’t dislike it, but I wouldn’t buy it again. I wouldn’t suggest it for sports or summer. It’s not for the office or romantic occasions; it could be off-putting. It’s not for formal events either. In a club, better-made mid-range perfumes will catch more attention. Perhaps an outdoor rock concert or a walk in autumn/winter would be good suggestions. It’s not at all unisex. Very versatile. Scent: 4/10, Quality: 5/10, Longevity: 6/10, Projection: 5/10, Versatility: 2/10.

At the price of around five dollars in Argentina, and for that LEATHER, I’m bold enough to say it’s SPECTACULAR. Now, like the Black Suede flankers I’ve been buying, its longevity is a crying shame. For a half-day activity or a bit of calisthenics to re-activate it, it barely lasts. But at least with this Black Suede DARK, I can’t ask for more for those five dollars. The opening is fruity, but don’t ask me which fruits because I have no idea; it’s an undifferentiated note. I don’t know which market perfume it’s nodding to. Beware of this opening! Don’t let that impression fool you, because after a few minutes, say five, the rough leather starts emerging between the fruity notes. This combination makes it distinct, like the leather with solvent from Gucci Guilty (I’m making the comparison because I don’t have another to reference, though they differ in result, they share kinship and intent) but sweetened; as if something spiced had been added to aromatise the leather. The leather holds until the end (which is no more than three hours on my skin) with a volatile camphorated component (it’s not the scent but the effect) that decongests the nose. I don’t sense vetiver or a dry, astringent finish. Obviously, it’s super masculine, designed for the man (though, of course, anyone can wear it). CONCLUSION: For the price and what it offers, it’s ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT if you like or want to venture into perfumes with a prominent LEATHER note: because this one HAS IT. For the price, its meagre longevity is forgiven (though it lasts a little longer than its older siblings ‘Touch’ and ‘Leather’, which I’ve already reviewed). With a bit of optimism and no pretensions, this perfume could become a battle horse for Avon.

Synthetic as only it can be XD… I just bought it blind. I like it, although it’s not the type of scent I feel goes with me. The opening is muuuuch plastic and fruity, like a tutti frutti, an undefined fruit salad, it smells artificial but not badly. That impression fades after a while and a very pleasant aromatic leather appears, although I prefer drier leather; this one is sweet but pleasant. Is it sexy? Mmm, I think so, it works precisely because of its artificiality; it reminded me of when I first smelled Joop, like you can’t believe you’re smelling something so synthetic. Is it masculine? No, it’s quite unisex; I imagine a girl at a party, wearing a leather jacket, dancing until dawn… It’s charming, it doesn’t kill me, but it has something addictive that means I have no regrets in owning it, besides the price is a joke. Autumn, winter, cold, day or night (I think it should hold up in smoke-filled bars and closed parties), spring and summer could work because of the sweet fruity notes, but at night. Do not buy blind.
