Insolence Eau de Parfum by Guerlain, created by Olivier Polge in 2017, is a fruity floral fragrance for women. Found it by chance and also picked up a good dupe. If there is a perfume with a proper name, it is this one: it is BOLD and IRREVERENT. If it were a person, it would be an extrovert by essence, not because it is loud or rude; on the contrary, it has softness and delicacy but with a presence that turns heads. I usually find violets cloying because they are powdery and vintage, but the potency and imprint of this have nothing to do with that. I would wear it all year round, except in heat or humidity. I imagine it with a white dress at a high-end vineyard lunch, or with a leather jacket, heels, and a white shirt in a bar. It is versatile but, as they say, has a lot of personality and you need to know how to wear it. ATTITUDE is what dominates here.

An unusual perfume. It is evident that it is of high quality, there is no doubt. Nevertheless, a colleague wore it and said it is quite invasive. Personally, I like the scent, but I understand that if it is not to your liking (it is sweet, violet-like, etc.) it can be quite off-putting to others. One spray is sufficient.

I thought it would be soft and adorable, but it is the complete opposite. It is very strong, a scent with character and maturity. The only notes I perceive are violet to an overwhelming powdery degree. It is like a blow to the nose due to its intensity; it is not bad but definitely not for me, although I tried giving it chances and there is no point. It lasts a very long time, the trail is moderate, and the price is high; perhaps it is worth it if you like this type of fragrance. My mother loved it; she says it is similar to one she had when she was young, so she was happy. Personally, I do not like it at all; I feel it smells like violet floor cleaner. But tastes vary.

Franz Xavier is feminine, but I think you wear it, not the perfume, so if you are a man it could work. It is not super feminine; it smells like something clean, half pharmacy but sweet; I do not think it would go badly with a boy.

They say it smells like pharmacy sweets and I like violet and iris, but I am a man. Is it very feminine? Or could it be considered unisex?

I tried this a couple of years ago and it didn’t excite me; it felt stuck in my throat, too powdery, strong and even mature. Recently, however, a colleague convinced me to try it again, and oh my! How lovely it is! ‘Insolence’ is the epitome of a sweet, powdery violet. A perfect blend of iris and violet. It’s simple and linear, yet delicious. It reminds me of famous violet sweets or lipstick. Magical creatures, fluffy clouds and fairy dust! It’s melancholic, hypnotic, delicate, clean, innocent, bold and sophisticated. Ultra-feminine. A timeless classic. It has moderate sillage and impressive longevity, easily lasting 8 hours on me. Yes, I would buy it, but only this version with the bees. If I can’t get it, I’ll look for an equivalent because the current one has terrible performance and doesn’t last at all. I’d feel cheated buying it.

I can’t handle this perfume. I was gifted it and had such high expectations. I’d never heard of it, but seeing the reviews left me intrigued. What a disappointment for my taste. It’s very subjective; I’m writing what I feel. I don’t like it, even though I enjoy violets. I tried it with an open mind in autumn and winter, but it overwhelms me. The sweetness is excessive; it gives me headaches and nausea. I detect a smell of gummies or violet sweets, and I don’t like smelling like that. I don’t feel it’s a natural floral, but rather synthetic, with too much sugar, like a violet and sugared grape air freshener. I have a memory from when I was a child; my mother was washing the car and left a card with air freshener that made me feel sick; it smells exactly the same. I admit it lasts quite a while on skin; I applied very little, and by evening and night, I could still smell it. I don’t recommend it blindly; it’s a fragrance with personality, not a safe gift. It’s purely feminine, not unisex. It smells like a sweet treat, not a gourmand dessert. It has body and is particular. I would use it on a fresh, cold day with few sprays, but certainly not in the heat.

Insolence? Of course. Insolence is the contrast between sweet caramel and powdery violets. It’s an olfactory experience that transports us to the courtly life of another century. I love it; it’s an intimate fragrance with sensual exuberance. Sillage and longevity are very good. I can’t stop buying it!

I have the version in the photo, the 2017 one. Be careful, as they have changed the packaging and claim to have reformulated it. I like it very much, though I don’t recommend buying blindly unless you really love violets. At first, fresh and powdery violets are noticeable, and as it develops, it becomes sweeter. There are no red berries. It feels like a fragrance from another era, not an old one, but something a young woman in the 1800s would wear, with a ‘enchanted’ touch, very delicate, feminine and present (though I wouldn’t describe it as strong). Innocent, sweet and powdery violets. I’m glad to have it in my collection as it’s different, though I don’t consider it essential. I’d give the scent a 7/10; it has low sillage with a projection of 1.30 hours, and where it shines is in longevity: even at 8 hours it’s perceptible on the skin. I managed to get this version cheaply (50ml for under 9,000 pesos in October 2022). If you find it cheap, share it, as they say the new reformulated version has very low longevity (2-4 hours) and this one exceeded my expectations.
-
Javiera1989
I love its composition. It’s a beautiful, feminine, cheerful scent. It reminds me of a pleasant spring afternoon, but it doesn’t last at all. It also lacks significant sillage, reaching no more than a few centimetres. Quite expensive for the longevity. I suppose it has been reformulated, as I had the previous bottle (a gift from my mum when I was a teenager) and it lasted 6-8 hours with important sillage. I adore it, but it doesn’t represent me as I’d have to reapply it constantly, and it also doesn’t come to Chile in a travel size.
-
Yuyusita7
I’m surprised they say it’s soft. The opening seems very pleasant, but over time it becomes very strong, a bit spicy and sweet. People around me say the scent is potent. I’m not sure if I still like it; I’ve had it for a few days, but I adore Guerlain perfumes and I’ll give it another chance.
-
yesteves
Second week in and I’m already hooked: it’s soft, delicate, and brings me peace. It doesn’t have much of a trail, so I didn’t get the ‘Insolence’ vibe at first, but the longevity is something else entirely: it lingers on the skin for hours and on clothes for days. That’s its insolence, appearing when you least expect it. It’s like a pleasant surprise, a fond memory. I choose perfumes by how they make me feel: I wear ‘Libre Intense’ to feel imposing, but ‘Insolence’ to feel feminine, delicate, and at peace.
-
yesteves
I love it. The opening is the least favourite part for me; you don’t feel that rich violet and caramel scent at first, but once it settles, it’s exactly that. I don’t detect the red berry note. Although I like the opening less, it holds up, though it fades quickly. I’m from Madrid, and here those caramels are typical; it smells just like in the shops that sell that violet caramel. I adore it with all my heart.
-
xakaranda
What on earth have they done with the reformulation? The old versions with the bee and the flower lasted forever. This new one, even when applied generously, doesn’t last more than two hours. They’ve turned something that worked into a watery mess of violet at the same price. I’m not going to buy it again when it runs out. What a pity.
-
ankhesenamon
It smells like an old-fashioned scent, but not an old one; it’s pleasant, though I’m not sure what exactly it reminds me of. On my skin, it’s very soft: I detect the violets, a touch of sweetness, and white flowers. I’m not familiar with those sweet violets they refer to, but if they smell like perfume… how lovely.

Sip, violet sweets, a memory I loved as a child. How beautiful, though I’m not sure if I’ll wear it out or keep it to enjoy at home. It feels deliciously old-fashioned, not old but nostalgic and very romantic. It reminds me of some meteorites from this house, Guerlain, which also smelled of violet. Thinking about it, after a few hours, I’m going to enjoy it to the full. The name ‘Insolence’ suits it perfectly: wearing something so beautiful that it seems from another century requires a certain insolence, and that gives it modernity. Beautiful.

I love it! The opening is the least favourite part because it doesn’t smell of caramelised violets at first, but once it settles, it’s exactly that. I don’t sense any red berry notes at all. Although the opening is a bit irritating, it fades quickly. In Madrid, these sweets are very typical and smell just like in the shops. I adore it with all my heart ❤️

I loved it! On my skin, I detect talcum-dusted violets with a sweet twist. The longevity is brilliant: around eight hours on the skin and longer on clothes. Trail 8/10, longevity 10/10, presentation 10/10. 😍 I’ll definitely buy it again. 😍

I can’t deal with this perfume. I was gifted it and had such high expectations after reading the reviews, but what a disappointment. It’s very subjective, but I simply didn’t like it. Even though I like violets, this scent overwhelms me, even in winter. The sweetness is excessive and gives me headaches and nausea. It smells like synthetic violet sweets or candies, with lots of sugar and grapes, like a car air freshener. I remember when I was a child, in the car washes, that little air freshener card made me feel sick; it smells exactly the same. I recognise it lasts quite a while on the skin, but I don’t enjoy it. It’s not for warm weather, at most a cold spring day with very few sprays. It’s feminine, with personality, and it’s not a gift that fails.

I’ve been wearing it for months and it’s my favourite. It’s not for everyone; it has character. It smells of violet and caramel, very sweet but elegant. The bottle is pretty and the longevity is good, around 6-7 hours on clothes and skin. I wear it to go out and it makes me feel special. It’s not a common scent, which I like. Sometimes I notice a touch of red berries, but what predominates is the violet. It’s a perfume that accompanies you all day without tiring. I recommend it if you’re looking for something sweet but classy. The price is fair for the quality. I love it every time I use it; it’s like a hug in the form of a scent. I would definitely buy it again without a doubt. It’s my winter perfume, and I also use it in spring. The sillage is pleasant; it doesn’t invade too much. In short, it’s a jewel worth trying. I feel secure and feminine with it. It’s a classic that never goes out of style. I’ve had it in my collection for a long time, and it always makes me look forward to using it. It’s my go-to perfume. I recommend it to all girls looking for something sweet and elegant. It’s my favourite of all the perfumes I’ve tried. It never disappoints. It always smells delicious and long-lasting. It’s a perfect gift for any occasion. I love sharing it with my friends. It’s a perfume that makes you feel good with yourself. I wear it to work and on dates. It’s versatile and elegant. I love its violet and caramel scent. It’s a perfume that accompanies you at all times. I recommend it to all girls looking for something sweet and elegant. Haha, ‘violet sweets’ exactly as is. I’m testing it on a decant and it takes me back to childhood. I liked those sweets, but I’m not a huge fan of the scent. You have to like them because they are very ‘insolent’ violets, too present for what I tolerate. So I don’t think I’ll buy the bottle.
-
pathypooh
It smells of violet sweets. Just like that. A very rich and addictive scent. It’s not a scent that captivates me, but it is very rich.

I’m not a specialist, but the violet and cherry scent is exquisite. I fell in love with it the moment I bought it. It’s not a common scent, which I like; it draws attention and generates many compliments. The best part is that not everyone knows it; it’s a privilege to smell Insolence.

I’ve been wearing this since December, a gift from my boyfriend, and I absolutely adore it. I’m not an expert on perfumes, so I don’t complicate things with technical notes; what I notice is a potent violet scent that smells delicious. It conveys that strong, cheeky personality the name suggests, yet without being old or musty, it has a sweet touch. The bottle is gorgeous, identical to the photo, with that velvet finish that simply captivates me.

I’ve been using it for weeks and I LOVE it. It’s soft and delicate, giving me a sense of peace. It doesn’t have much sillage (I usually prefer the loud ones), so I didn’t understand the name ‘Insolence’ at first, but its longevity is incredible: it lasts for hours on my skin and days on my clothes. That’s where the insolence lies, appearing when you least expect it. It’s like a pleasant memory that evokes beautiful feelings. I wear it to feel feminine and at peace, whereas for something imposing, I prefer another.

Rebranding without warning and selling a cat when you promised a hare is unacceptable, yet Insolence stole my heart. It is a dark, feminine fragrance, a sweet/bitter and floral/woody contrast that breaks the rules. Thanks to insolent, velvet-sweet violets paired with red fruits and wood, it possesses a strong, unique personality. Original, intense, and memorable, with monumental projection and sillage.
-
Clásica
Guerlain’s Insolence is luxury in a bottle: powdery violets over sandalwood. It seems simple, yet it is elegant and complex, one of the treasures in my collection. You might not like the violets or the new presentation, and the performance may have dipped, but if this composition were a woman, she would be a breath-taking, rotund, and eternal beauty. It deserves a try for its timeless, luxurious quality that brings you close to the sublime. The performance is unmatched: two sprays last ten hours with notable projection. Ideal for lovers of refinement and art.

INSOLENCE EDP is a bold gem: iris, violets, and raspberries with powdery touches. It opens with red fruits and sweet flowers where the violet and iris reign, lending distinction. The base of wood, sandalwood, and tonka bean creates a fragrance with great personality, excellent longevity, and sillage. It is strong and sweet, leaving a lasting impression. Moreover, I am delighted to own the original bottle by sculptor Serge Mansau, who designed many beautiful Guerlain flacons.
-
Gemojai
The opening is very pretty, though it can be invasive. Fragantica’s description is good, but I would say it is a bit sweeter than woody and much more intense than the current edition. It is a violet soliflore with flattering nuances and very feminine. If you layer it with Santal 33, the violet is amplified and becomes incredibly unisex and enigmatic; with this layering, I have received many compliments.
-
janet41
I feel fortunate to have the original formula, almost new; it lasts nearly twenty hours on the skin, which is incredible. I do not understand Guerlain: the current bottle has nothing to do with the perfume. The new formula smells different; the original is very sweet violets, with little wood until the end, before becoming more powdery. Happy with the gift, I believe the violets are undervalued and it is magnificent to smell them without being old-fashioned. Note, it is not for summer as it becomes overwhelming; it is for autumn and winter evenings.
-
Malen
I bought it in a lovely little bottle with an inverted heart-shaped cap, and as I already knew, I didn’t like it and paid a fortune for it. I promised myself it would be my last perfume and I’m now making a list for one I actually enjoy. Perfumes are getting so strange, aren’t they?
-
Verisa
For years it was my signature scent; it was impressive how everyone asked what I was wearing. Projection and longevity of 24 hours without any issues—an overwhelming performance. It’s a shame they reformulated it, and that’s where its charm ended. It still smells good, but the new version has nothing to do with this one.

ROCOCÓ is the very essence of violets and talcum powder. It sparkles with violet caramel and an overflowing floristry. Purple opulence, with no discretion. The perfume of Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola’s film. It has something vintage, a classic dressing-table aroma, yet it’s contemporary too. A balance between an imperishable violet drawn in a dazzling way. If I were a film director, I’d be Baz Luhrmann, with a saturation of details and flowers, running away from silence. It generates love or hate, but to me, being different from the usual, I adore it. It’s a faithful portrait of Guerlain’s historical essence and its makeup.
-
Omarbf1973
Another Guerlain success: Insolence. I have both the vintage bottle and the relaunch. There are differences, but that’s left to trained noses. Incredible longevity and that childhood nostalgia. My medical friends say Insolence is children’s cologne made into perfume. Here in Cuba, toddlers were scented with low-alcohol violet colognes. A magical essence and an absolute representative of violet fragrances.
-
sopagobe
This scent confuses me; I still haven’t decided whether I love it or it bothers me. It’s violets, as if they were putting a whole bunch right up to your nose, with sharp red fruits. The opening reminds me of a refreshing drink, delicious and potent, but it lingers and when you expect it to fade, it continues until it becomes annoying; on me, it causes salivation like eating dark, acidic grapes, between sweet and sour. As I move, I can smell it with every step. Over time it softens, that much-talked-of new doll scent emerges, and it becomes more bearable. Truly delicious but very strong. As a solution, I try it in layers with vanilla; the opening is less intense, but I feel guilty for trying to force a jewel like this. Generous trail, moderate to heavy longevity.
-
lauraaaaa86
I won’t be as technical as others. Simply put, I am obsessed with this scent; I love it, I am passionate about it. Those powdery violets, those old-fashioned caramels… I don’t know, but I struggle to believe there are people who don’t like it, even though there are. It certainly deserves a try; please let your senses enjoy it.
-
Carlotta
I had been searching for a violet fragrance for years, all powdery, recalling an old era that I adore but my husband does not; it always reminds him of a grandmother. When I bought Insolence, it exceeded my expectations: it is a sensual, sweet, cloying violet. My husband liked it, but I loved it. I think women who usually like this type of perfume often hate it. It is not a generic scent; its trail and longevity are quite heavy. If you like violet and potent, characterful perfumes, this is the one for you.
-
Chikis220373
By no means do I find it delicious; quite the opposite, it smells like when, as a child, I smelled my dolls’ cheeks, which is irritating if you smell it continuously. I bought it based on reviews and I am quite regretful. It lasts about four hours on my skin, but I do not think I will use it again. It repels me quite a bit. Think twice before buying it: it is coarse violets that invade the nose like a stinky bomb. Nevertheless, I respect everyone’s tastes.
-
AreZta
I tried the new bottle, which looks rather ugly, but I went for the scent. Okay, it does not smell bad, but on me, I did not like it; it is sweet but a common smell. It does last, but I would not buy it. Regarding those who do like it, it could be the climate, pH, etc.
-
Betty Love
I had the perfume some time ago; it finished a few months ago. My boyfriend gave it to me as a surprise, and what a surprise it was to realise they had changed the bottle. I had doubts about its formula, but no! Ladies, the scent remains the same. Personally, I love it. If the bottle does not do justice to the previous one, what matters to me personally is the essence, and this remains the same.
-
Givasi
The same thing happened to me as in the previous review. I rushed to buy it. The lilacs invade my nose. Despite loving powdery perfumes, this is not my favourite.
-
Panta
Insolence EDP is undoubtedly a standout perfume. As the previous review says, they are caramelised violets. On my skin, I feel a sweet violet, the powdery touch of iris and the sweetness of tonka bean. I really find it wonderful. I have worn it for two days in a row and it has me smitten. Highly recommended for lovers of the violet note.
-
Manuela Monteiro
It is a dazzling scent. Caramelised, powdery violets. It is very sophisticated. It lasts, and lasts, and lasts, and lasts on my skin. It is cloying. I must admit it is not for every woman. Excellent trail and longevity, as is everything from Guerlain. I think it is one of my favourites. It is romantic, but insolent, knowing how to stand out. You will never go unnoticed because it is unusual. It is a scent that captivates, like honey to bees. It is imposing. It is Guerlain.
-
Ssilvinabent
The first time I applied this perfume, I noticed a resemblance to two fragrances: Flower by Kenzo and the floral phase of Ralph. It resulted in an explosion of flowers, overwhelming and slightly grating. Flower is very balanced; this scent has a floral predominance that I particularly dislike; it cloyes me and is excessive. However, the longevity and projection are beastly; when I wear it, everyone says how rich it smells. As I am not interested in pleasing others, I would not buy it again; I think I will finish it and that is that. Something particular is that after several hours, it leaves a scent of dried flowers on my skin. Scent: 3. Projection: 9. Longevity: 9.
-
Jesica La Roja
In response to Black Orchid and Pía Ramírez, it seems there was some rights issue with the bottle; Guerlain lost a lawsuit with a design house and had to withdraw it. The current packaging looks ancient because it follows the lines of the iconic Guerlain bottle, known as ‘the bee bottle’, from the Imperial cologne, which Jean Baptiste Pascale Guerlain created for Empress Eugenia de Montijo in 1853, earning him the title of Imperial Perfumer. Over time, the house has re-signified it in different fragrances, such as now in the Aqua Allegoria line, among others, as part of its image and tradition.

Insolence is very respectful: potent and long-lasting, impossible to go unnoticed. Very feminine, that powder-puffed violet scent like a fine dusting, what a delight.
-
Elitte
Hello. With my pH it smells fantastic; the violets and lily dominate with a powdery touch. It lasts about eight hours with a moderate trail, but on clothes it’s eternal. Insolence is one of my favourites and it’s never missing from my collection. Best wishes, Eli.
-
Jazmín Tuberosa
So rich, I love all its notes. The violet stands out more, and by the end of the day the base notes emerge. What a pity they changed the original bottle; while the juice remains the same, that’s fine.
-
LizGlz
Truthfully, it smells like those sweet heart perfumes; wearing it puts me in a good mood. It’s versatile, not heavy for the heat. The only downside is the new bottle; I ordered the old one and it didn’t arrive, but it’s worth it. I’m not sure if it’s been reformulated as I haven’t tried it before.
-
Black.orchid
They change the bottle out of nowhere for a hideous, outdated one that has nothing to do with Insolence. The original was futuristic and beautiful; the new one looks like cheap cologne, so I won’t buy it again. Besides, I can tell it’s been reformulated; it’s no longer that intense, mysterious violet, it’s watery. They’re taking us for fools! I won’t be buying it again.
-
Pía Ramírez
I saw today in a shop that they’ve changed the Insolence bottles (toilette and parfum) to the Aqua Allegoria style: purple for the parfum, pink for the toilette, and frosted glass. The liquid isn’t a reformulation; it’s the same.
-

One of my favourites without a doubt… that violet scent creates an aura that makes everyone turn to ask the name. I adore it.

It’s strong and sweet, but of those sweets I can tolerate. I love this perfume and have repeated it several times.

Totally agree with the previous one. I ordered it for my birthday this month. I like the violet if it’s modern, because sometimes it’s been done the same way for 100 years. Insolence is a modern, personal violet; the best thing is its trail and longevity. It’s linear and doesn’t have much development, but it smells for so long and from a distance. Although it’s not my current fragrance, it will be the next in my wardrobe. Update: I bought it for the trail and longevity, but it’s been reformulated and massacred. That’s what happens when you buy online with a delay. What a pity.

Insolence is precious. I’m not a lover of violets or iris, but it has a particular acidity, like sour caramel, always with sweetness and presence. The sandalwood from Guerlain gives it the perfect touch. It’s elegant, creamy and lush. It’s not light; it needs patience. Dry down is exceptional, smelling like a doll with high-end sweets. Although it’s not floral or oriental as I usually prefer, it’s in my top. These days that perfumes smell less, I love one that has an enviable trail. I can smell beautiful perfumes that vanish in a breath, but I wait to see how they develop; if they don’t have a trail, I discard them. Insolence gives me what I’m looking for: a trail in torrents and elegance. It has a peculiar scent that can be off-putting because it’s so insolent, but if you like it and don’t overdo the spray, it’s perfect for feeling perfumed, something you can’t get nowadays even spending 100 euros.

Insolence is a very rare floral masterpiece. Everything revolves around a sweet wild and lush violet. At first the raspberry adds a zesty sparkling acidity to whet the appetite. Then the iris dashing like the sun invites you to dance and envelops you in its powder-dusted cloak. Underneath four magnificent notes—a touch of musk tonka bean sandalwood and woods—wrap around it with balsamic sweetness and creaminess. It’s a quintessentially French floral: rich dense and creamy. A super-feminine and intoxicating fragrance perfect for special occasions and cool nights. It’s very potent at first but don’t worry; if you let it evolve it leaves a soft trail on the skin for over eight hours. I’m bothered by the bottle though: while ergonomic I’m annoyed to see the perfume splashing around the nozzle. When we think of flowers we imagine roses jasmine neroli… and this humble shy dreamy violet? Where is it? Like a modern Cinderella it’s tired of waiting wants to see the world and has donned her hat. A radiant violet loses its fears and steps out onto the street with confidence. Intense exuberant and sophisticated it cuts through a crowd fascinated by its brazen sensuality. That is this fragrance: strong and powerful just like her and I say it’s about time. I declare myself an unconditional fan of this violet treasure. Dare to discover its scent; you won’t regret it.

To be honest I find it very heavy. There have been better ones. These violet monoglots camouflaged under this name are a bit misleading when they promise a specific aromatic profile (all its notes and composition). At least they could tell you what stands out most and not charge 70 pounds. If you buy it blind as I did and know that these scents aren’t for me at least know what kind of colognes and smells you like. Sorry :/

I’ve just opened my new Insolence EDP and can conclude it’s very similar if not identical to the EDT I also have in my collection. Probably the EDP is a bit more intense but anyway I love both. That powdery creamy scent I adore in a perfume; I don’t like intense floral types like jasmine and these two versions of Insolence are my favourites. I’ll probably use the EDP next winter which is approaching.

What a fantastic perfume!! I tried it and fell in love instantly. It’s creamy sweet feminine sexy and elegant. It reminds me of the violet sweets my grandmother used to give me when I was little. I find it dazzling. I don’t detect the red fruits but rather an explosion of sugared violets with a powdery iris finishing with a bit of tonka bean and a subtle wood. It has a powerful trail and impeccable longevity; you can’t ask for more from a perfume. It’s gone straight to my favourites list. I’m in love (。❤‿❤。)

I love perfumes with violet notes (apart from vanilla and raspberry); in fact I have Ultraviolet. When I decided to buy it I tried both the perfume and the Eau de Toilette and curiously I preferred the perfume. It’s different from the rest mysterious just as its name suggests insolent. I love it for cold nights; it’s a great option for violet lovers. Beautiful bottle and longevity; two sprays are enough to be scented all day.

Violets here bring me nostalgia but to be honest they don’t hook me for purchase; everything else has already been said.

Insolence was the warning that Guerlain was aiming at the younger crowd. It’s an aggressive and mature fragrance far from the fashionable white florals with a simple axis of powdery notes and a predictable caramelised touch. The Eau de Parfum version is denser and livelier: it starts with a breath of red berries over violets then explodes with powdery and caramelised iris closing with tonka bean and toasted woods (I don’t detect bergamot). It reminds me of my philosophy teacher: ‘Sensuality is overrated’. Although it isn’t sensual the advertising with a nude Hilary Swank and Muse music is a brazen mockery of that idea. It’s a visionary piece by Guerlain powerful and admirable without turning you into a sex symbol like Allure Sensuelle. It’s thick its presence is always noticeable and its trail is massive.

Violets violets and more violets! Sweet and intense but too much. I didn’t like it when I tried it on my skin; it doesn’t suit me. It lasts forever and has an enormous trail but it’s not my style. I prefer My Insolence which is softer.

Insolence… What more can I say? I love it. It smells deliciously candied violets hence the powdery touch. The red fruits are only noticeable at the beginning. After five minutes the violets appear subtly before turning into a wild whirlwind of dark caramelised violets. Hours later they’re still there mixed with iris and sandalwood. The sillage is bestial typical of Guerlain. I’ve just bought it and fear it will run out so I’ll buy another. It’s more potent than the EDT: sweet at the start then the violets give that powdery touch. It’s different attention-grabbing daring and evokes audacity. It’s not for everyone; perfect for those who love violets and dense perfumes and want to make a difference. I recommend it; it’s a piece that must not be missing.

A sexy perfume that makes people look at you; apply it generously so it shines in all its splendour and is noticeable.
Category:

I tried it on my skin yesterday and it’s fabulous—sweeter and fruitier than the 2008 EDP. The longevity and projection are generous. I’ve already added it to my wishlist.
I found this wild bottle and without a doubt, I bought it. I didn’t plan on getting Insolence, but the bottle, like La Petite Robe Noire, looked absolutely gorgeous. My first impression was that it smelled of violet sweets. It is! My friend brought me Pifarré sweets from Spain, and the scent is identical. Guerlain adds interesting nuances; it’s not one-note. At first, it smells of fresh, soapy violet, very clean, almost like makeup remover wipes. I detect vanilla, orange blossom, and an acidic note like strawberry that balances the violet. It lasts a long time; the next day my sweatshirt still smelled of it. The trail is perceptible but not heavy. Ideal for feeling innocent and fresh. Regarding reformulations: the fear is unfounded. This 2021 version is closer to the original than the bee-bottle one. The performance is top-notch; I’m going to buy a couple more bottles. Go for it without fear!
This isn’t Insolence… if they change the formula, they should change the name. My favourite since 2009 is over, and I’ve bought it again. The latest version with its clunky bottle is much softer and less characterful than the old one, which was vibrant and sharp. Now it smells nice but doesn’t project or last three hours without a trace. I was disappointed.
It’s a very refined and delicate aroma; you need to know how to wear it. Just two or three sprays on the neck are enough to feel the powdery violets for hours. If you overdo it, you turn this luxury into something vulgar.
I’ve had this perfume in my collection for some time. I just picked up the 2021 Les Legendaires version and don’t notice much of a change, unlike others that have gone off. It remains that sweet, powdery violet that I love so much.
If you’re in Argentina and walked into PUMA, you know exactly what this version smells like. If you like it, go ahead… but for me, it was a resounding NO.
I had to try this classic! The opening is strong on violets but without any plastic smell; it’s pure quality. Soon the sweetness of vanilla arrives, leaving an elegant impression like natural strawberry and vanilla sweets. Hours later, the tonka becomes noticeable. If you forget you’re wearing it, a floral talcy note hits you, reminding you of Insolence. It lasts at least 8 hours. If you like violets, this is the prettiest one.
Finally, a perfume that has pleasantly surprised me. At first, it smells of lilac flowers with a touch of talc and violet sweets. Then the temperature drops and the vanilla with tonka rises, smelling of roasted almonds rather than nutmeg. It lasts about 10 hours and projects well. It’s delicate, ideal for autumn afternoons or cool nights. Pleasant and original: 7/10.
I became such a fan that I bought the bottle, but it’s so cloyingly sweet it suits my 22-year-old sister much better than me. It smells of caramelised violets, is super cheerful, and has a kilometre-long trail that lasts over 10 hours. I love the new bottle, even though the scent is the same as always—a lovely touch from Guerlain.
What a marvel! It smells like the violet candies from the little round box 💜, it fixes very well, it’s strong, lasts a long time on the skin and projects quite a bit. Over time it becomes powdery and sweet.
Travelers to the train! For those who cherish the memory of violet candies from childhood, hop on board. This perfume is the best possible poetic reinterpretation of those typical Madrid sweets. It’s clean, with an intense violet scent but without being coarse. Quite sweet without being cloying or gourmand, and powdery like its luxurious makeup, yet not too retro; the combination with red fruits gives it a modern twist making it totally current. If Prada works like a god at iris, Guerlain’s violet accord doesn’t fall behind. Among its versions, I prefer the Eau de Parfum, where the powdery notes and violet stand out with more force, and its lilac liquid is already an invitation to dream. The Eau de Toilette opens with more dominant and lighter fruity notes, with a pink hue making it distinct. Insolence EDP is a very particular scent, difficult to convert into a signature and not for everyone… and that’s how it should be, exclusive and personal, for those who know how to choose their own path.
I came to this version out of longing for the original Insolence EDP from 2008. I could never get that version again; the bottle was divine. Each has its essence, but this retains much of its ‘mother’. I’m fascinated that from the start the violets are accompanied by orange blossom, what a beautiful combination! They blend with sandalwood. On my skin the vanilla isn’t sweet, it’s simply there to accompany the flowers. Unlike other reviews, for me it’s not a sweet scent. This fragrance is addictive; I love wearing it and smelling it. Although I used to wear it as a signature scent, now I only take it out in autumn and winter; I think it develops better in those seasons.
I used up the 2017 bottle so I bought this to replace it. I don’t know if they’ve touched the formula, but on my skin I feel they’ve lowered the intensity quite a bit 🙁
I had very high expectations because I adore La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Toilette, but when I put it on I only felt super powdery violets. I also noticed white flowers. With this perfume, I realised that I definitely don’t like violets. It lasted over twelve hours on my skin even after a bath. I ended up giving it away.
If you love violets, this is your perfume… wonderful! And with an impressive trail and longevity…
I’ll just say: what a beautiful perfume. I adore it, it’s gorgeous, and I’ve been wearing it for years; it’s one of my great favourites. It smells like those four-piece violet chewing gums (if you’re from Mexico, you’ll know them): sweet violets with a touch of powdery iris. Since I love violets like this, I love this perfume which sums them all up.
What a beautiful, feminine and sophisticated scent. Sweet, fruity and powdery violets. Its dry-down is the best. I confess that at first its opening didn’t impress me; it was neutral, but after twenty minutes that scent fell in love with me and I went for more. Over twelve hours on skin and clothes. What magical beauty.
Guerlain had an incredible capacity for fragrances that conveyed old-world luxury and elegance. Some, like Shalimar, remain current; others seem stuck in a dressing room from a hundred years ago, but all conveyed that hard-to-find status today. From the box to the scent, everything said it was worth the price. I don’t know what happened between the original Insolence (2006) and Mon Guerlain (2017), but something changed. The house tries to revive its classics in Les Légendaires, but they failed to replicate the exact fragrances; critics said they distorted them, without realising nothing remains exactly the same. The important thing was to capture the spirit and essence, and I think they succeeded. They bring back that aura of something well-made, not just because of the price but because of the quality. Insolence EDP takes me to the dressing room of a young English lady from the Regency or early Victorian times. Not French, because then France was busy with Napoleon and had no time for country-walking young ladies. I imagine a girl, no longer a child but not quite a woman, strolling through family lands in a loose, light dress, too informal for court. The sun, shy after a night of rain, revitalises the earth and releases mysterious scents. It reflects in her hair where she wears a sprig of perfumed violets she picked up along the way. She smiles at finding wild strawberries and eats a few. Insolence has that old touch through iris and violet, the two notes that drag the rest along. It has an optimistic, cheerful character thanks to strawberry and bergamot, and a creamy, slightly sweet base from sandalwood and Guerlinade. It’s romantic, not as we know it today, but as the Romantic movement of its time: emotions over reason, melancholy above all, joy only to accentuate happy memories because, according to the Romantics, all good things have already passed. Nostalgia and joy at remembering are what it evokes for me. I see it for spring and autumn, though a damp, fresh summer day would suit it well, or all year round in cool, rainy cities like Bogotá. It’s too floral for winter and unbearable in heat, because violet becomes sweeter and almost sticky with the warmth, causing headaches. I only recommend it to those who already know they like powdery violet. If you’re not sure, better abstain, because there are no half-measures here. It lasts longer than Estée Lauder’s, which is much to be appreciated in such invasive fragrances.
My favourite violet is that super powdery and delicious one, like a rich girl’s in the Belle Époque. If you love violets from start to finish, feminine, innocent and elegant perfumes (that shabby chic style), give it a try. It lasts about six hours, projecting strongly for the first hour; afterwards, it lingers as a pleasant aura that everyone notices. I’ll never tire of repurchasing it.
Bottled delicacy, ultra-feminine. Here we have a perfume that balances the old with the contemporary; I perceive it as romantic. For fans of Pride and Prejudice, this perfume would go to Georgiana, Darcy’s sister. A very delicate fragrance with excellent projection.
I know the three versions: the original was a creation of a dark, sweet, and dry violet, very mature and with an overwhelming power; the second in the bee-shaped bottle had already been toned down a bit, it was more powdery, especially with much more iris, but it was still quite respectable; this latest one is a sweet violet soap, on my nose it’s much cleaner, less powdery, more floral, and much weaker. I can’t stand this endless exercise of reformulating good creations and in the attempt to ‘modernise’ them, they only lower them and make them more commercial.
I love perfumes with violet, iris, and talcum notes.. but with this one I CAN’T, it’s too strong. It’s bordering on nuclear. Besides, it gives me a very, very outdated vibe.
This perfume smells like those sugar-coated sweets in heart shapes and pastel colours. I don’t consider it youthful, but neither outdated; it highlights the floral and talcum notes without being the typical granny smell. I tried it yesterday and I’d say it has a moderate trail and even after a shower, it’s still detectable close to the skin. I must mention that at the beginning (the first hour), I barely perceived any scent, but suddenly it was there and definitely it’s not subtle.
It arrived today!! What a beautiful scent!! Ethereal, like a being from another dimension, more subtle. I loved it!! Feminine, delicate.. truly gorgeous 💜
The first time I smelled Insolence was at university with its original 2008 round bottle presentation; I never forgot it. I was impressed that a soft scent could be so strong; it evoked a powerful and sexy aura in me, I loved it, but at 18 I wouldn’t have been able to wear it. At 35, I decided to get it, and it was quite an experience; at first, I felt disappointment not because it was less potent, but because the first sprays only smelled of makeup powder, but I learned about maceration and that’s when the magic arrived. After a month, Insolence returned to having the DNA I remembered: less potent, without that previous tender and dark combination, but equally beautiful. I love it, it makes me feel empowered, although it’s more softly feminine, which gives it versatility. It smells like lightly powdered violet candies, but nothing childish. The trail is moderate and lasts about 4-5 hours, perhaps longer as I’m testing it again. Something to note is that my skin is dry and that influences the longevity. My big dilemma is when to use it? Well, although I love it, I have a memory of that sexy and powerful perfume for special occasions, and part of me refuses to use it for everyday wear.
When I was little, I used to buy transparent violet candy boxes that tasted EXACTLY LIKE this perfume. If you like those candies, I understand you must like this perfume too, haha. By associating it with my childhood, I think it smells a bit childish to me. That said, it can be smelled from a distance and I’d say it camouflages any other smell, haha, incredible. I tried it in the perfumery and when I showed it to my boyfriend, he gave it a 7.4 🙈
It smells like those powdered violet candies with sugar, the ones that used to come in metal tins. It’s a delicious and pleasant aroma, though quite heavy, so I’d use it in cold climates. It’s a personal taste fragrance, cosy, that accompanies without invading as long as we are careful with the sprays. As always, Guerlain is for tastes that step outside the norm. It smells classic and refined, very feminine.
This version of Insolence has disappointed me quite a bit. I am one of the lucky ones with the 2006 edition, with the flower-shaped bottle, and its longevity and projection were overwhelming; you had to be careful not to overapply or you’d get dizzy and the room would feel heavy. The same salesperson told me once she wore it for a recital and people moved away because of how strong it was. With this version, I apply it and can’t even smell it on myself; on my skin, it doesn’t last more than 4 hours, and there’s little left of what this good perfume once was. The scent is rich but different from the original. In short, very sad indeed 💔
I fell in love at first sight thanks to recommendations from violet lovers and bought it without a second thought. However, I must confess that it hurts a little to see others say the old formula was more intense and long-lasting. That’s the only thing that disappoints me; I expected a violet, iris, and vanilla bomb, but the result is much more muted. Still, the positive side is that it’s now more wearable year-round. At the moment, in spring, it smells like a freshly made violet caramel, but I miss that potency. If you like sweet, floral scents with a magical touch, you’ll enjoy it, even if you need to reapply it every now and then 😉
I tried this perfume because I was looking for a violet scent, similar to Ultraviolet which is my signature perfume. I tried it on my arm and yes, you can feel many talcum-style vintage violets, I didn’t like it at all, the smell stayed on my skin all day and was really unpleasant. I had to wash my arm very well and I still felt the smell. It seemed a very strong old lady and cemetery smell. What a disappointment! The price was very expensive, luckily I didn’t buy it blindly.
What a gorgeous fragrance, it really is going to become my favourites! It is such a rich, such an attacking, such a feminine and such a delicious fragrance, I doubt much that someone would be bothered to smell this so rich. I don’t know why it reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier Classic, it shares four notes with that fragrance, but it is really so rich, it is completely worth it, I would buy it again.
What a beautiful perfume! It comes out super potent with an aquatic violet, accompanied by a sweet berry-like fruit and, according to my nose, something leathery. That projection and intensity last a good 2 to 3 hours. Then the scent drops significantly and the powdery iris phase starts to be felt, reducing the violet intensity and revealing the warmth of coumarin and vanilla. I like the dry down much more because that leathery tone disappears and you feel that little pill thing, although it stays for personal enjoyment. Excellent longevity, more than 9 hours on skin and hair. On fabric, let’s not even talk, my scarf has smelled of Insolence for four days. Something very crazy that happened to me was that I felt it very similar to LVEB Elixir; if you try both, you will understand. Perhaps that leather I perceive is due to the violet note. Perfumazo! It gives me a bit of vintage air at the beginning, but very modern in the dry down.
At first, it has a scent that for me are notes that don’t fit well and don’t fully convince me, something intense. By the hour, it changes completely, those notes recede, and it reminds me a lot of Prada Infusion d’Iris, which I do like, probably because of the iris. I like it much more in this phase. Try before buying and keep in mind that it changes a lot by the hour. The violet remains very subtle and integrated, but if you want to notice it more, keep in mind that that note doesn’t last long.
Uff, I don’t quite know how to say it but it smells delicious. It is very mystical in a sweet way, the almost perfect description of how I imagined the word ‘whimsical’. It has a vintage touch, nothing old, more youthful and playful, reminding me of the sweet and talcum fragrances of the Belle Époque in Paris. Watch out, it is a bit strong; I recommend spraying it only 1 or 2 times and avoiding it in the heat, because I feel I would get dizzy. Regarding the ‘clean’ part, I wouldn’t say it is exactly so, maybe a little in the opening, but it is very light compared to the rest. It might give the impression of soap due to common floral aromas, but it doesn’t smell like a bar, rather like fairies bathing in an enchanted forest with red berries and purple flowers; more bubbly than soapy. And no baby powder, it is much more complex. With this perfume, you can imagine an entire dreamlike landscape.
Beautiful and extremely potent. I have a very sensitive nose, so I usually don’t use more than three sprays of any perfume. With this one, I had to use the technique of spraying and walking past, because my colleagues can smell it from three metres if I spray on my neck and wrists (let alone on clothes). It is very peculiar and not everyone likes it, so I don’t recommend it for daily wear if you don’t want to attract attention. I love the smell but I don’t always dare to wear it because it is so noticeable. You have to be a bit of a rascal to wear it.
It starts with a violet that reminds me of the Halloween one or Kenzo Flower, but as time passes, it gets closer to what I loved about the EDT in the big round bottle. This one is very lovely, but the other is muuucho more sparkling. This one has a slightly more vintage point.
I had been wanting to buy it for months and finally got it. I don’t know how to explain how good it smells… Wearing it is like being in a field of violets on a late spring afternoon, eating a strawberry cake (literally). The opening is peculiar, a slightly acidic or freshly cut violet; then that acidity fades and you notice the iris and red berries, with a light fruity vanilla afterwards. These final notes are subtle compared to the strength of the violets and iris, so if you don’t like them, don’t even try it. It is super versatile, for day or night, casual or elegant, dates, uni, or work. It looks incredible as a signature scent.
I always saw reviews, searched for dupes in stores, and nobody wore it… seeing the TikTok ones really traumatized me, but I was afraid to buy the original in case I didn’t like it. I thought: well, if you don’t take risks, you don’t win. So I bought it. What do you think? I loved it zero. That is, it’s not that bad, it just reminded me of a grandmother’s wardrobe. Opening it smells of mint and flowers, something strange but clean. I think I will sell it; it’s not for everyone’s nose. I suggest smelling it before buying because it is a rather odd scent.
It is a work of art that ranks in my top five. It smells of sweet violets, like flowers and candies, with very subtle hints of red berries wrapped in a powdery cloud that adds mystique and elegance. It has so much personality that you only wear it if you identify with its scent, not to fit it into a specific occasion. For me, it is evocative and has the power to make me feel good just by spraying and enjoying its magic.
